Naples Historic Center, Via Monteoliveto, Piazza del Gesù Nuovo and Spaccanapoli

Palazzo delle Poste built during the Fascist period of Benito Mussolini. Via Monteoliveto, which is home to several historical and architectural landmarks. In the middle is the Obelisk of the Immaculate Conception, and to its left is the Palazzo delle Congregazioni and the Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo. The Monastery of Santa Chiara. Via Benedetto Croce, a lively street in the city, full of cafes and shops. Piazza San Domenico Maggiore and Obelisco di San Domenico. Via San Biagio Dei Librai part of the ancient street Spaccanapoli. Chiesa dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo. Piazza San Gaetano with the Obelisco di San Gaetano and the church of San Paolo Maggiore. We continued the walk through the Historic Center, going to the oldest medieval heart of Naples:
– we started from Via Toledo going on Via Armando Diaz,
– we passed by the Palazzo delle Poste built during the Fascist period of Benito Mussolini,
– we walked on Via Monteoliveto, which is home to several historical and architectural landmarks, until the Fontana di Monteoliveto, also called the Fountain of Charles II,
– then we went to the right towards Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, where there are some of the most important monuments of the city of Naples, the Obelisk of the Immaculate Conception, several historic late Baroque noble palaces, such as Palazzo Pandola and Palazzo Pignatelli di Monteleone, the city’s most important churches, the Church of Gesù Nuovo and the Monastery of Santa Chiara, the Palazzo delle Congregazioni and the Palazzo Professa,
– then followed Via San Biagio Dei Librai, part of the ancient street Spaccanapoli which is the straight and narrow main street that traverses the old historic center of the city of Naples, with artist’s workshops, overhanging balconies, narrow through-ways, sweet local stores, bars, restaurants, shopping boutiques and several important churches and landmarks, such as the Church of Santa Chiara, the Cappella Sansevero, and the Cathedral of San Gennaro,
– we finally arrived at the Duomo di Napoli – Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, which you can see in the next video.
