24 Hours in Split ππ· | How to spend a day in Split, Croatia
If you’re planning a trip to Split, but you’re short on time, this guide is for you. In today’s video, I’m going to share the perfect plan if your time is limited to 24 hours. If you’re new here, I’m Kim and I specialize in crafting short travel guides on popular destinations. So, if you’re passionate about travel, be sure to check out my playlist on various cities and join the community so you don’t miss out on your next bucket list adventure. Starting out, if your time in Split is limited to just 24 hours, you’ll want to begin your day with breakfast around 8:00 a.m. And you’ve got three great options. First, grab a table on the split prominad and enjoy a light Croatian breakfast. Second, head to Maka Maka, a personal favorite of mine for a refreshing and budget friendly asai bowl. Or third, try a local pastry called Barack filled with cheese or meat from St. Burk, one of the best spots in town. At around 9:00 a.m., it’s time to make your way to the heart of the occlesian’s Palace where you’ll find Perisal Square and the bell tower. Once there, I recommend stopping by the ticket office to grab a combo ticket. That will save you money and give you access to Split’s top landmarks. And here’s the route I suggest. Start with the baptistry of St. John, which is considered one of the oldest Christian baptistries in the world. Then head down into the crypt, a sacred underground chamber that offers a mysterious glimpse into Splits early religious history. Next, visit the Cathedral of St. Dominicius, originally built in the 4th century and considered the oldest Catholic cathedral still in use in its original structure. Finish with a climb up the bell tower for stunning panoramic views over the city and the sea. And if you’re a history lover, be sure to check out the Substructure Museum beneath the palace. It’s a fascinating way to experience Roman architecture from the inside out. Moving on, at 12:30 p.m., I recommend grabbing something to go or heading straight to the beach for lunch. Just a few minutes from the prominad, you can hop on bus 12 for only β¬2, which takes you to some of Split’s best beaches. And here you’ve got two great options. Option one, Kazuni Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Split, where you’ll find a beach club and some beds, which you can rent for about β¬35 a day. Option two, you’ve got Benny Beach, a chilled out spot within Margin Hill Park made of concrete platforms and shaded by pine trees. There you’ll find a tennis court, some beds available for rent, and a local restaurant right by the sea. Alternatively, if you’re short on time or prefer to stay closer to the center, you can walk to Bagviche Beach located just 15 minutes away, which is known for its shallow waters, lively vibe, and proximity to cafes and beach bars. Once you’re done tanning, by around 4:30 p.m., I recommend heading back into town to explore Pazar, which is Split’s largest open air market. It’s a great spot to pick up souvenirs from nearby islands like lavender products, local olive oil, or beach essentials like summer hats and water shoes. A must for rocky beaches. By 6:00 p.m., it’s time to choose your evening experience. And here are my top two picks. First, hop on a boat tour, which often includes drinks and lets you watch the sky turn gold from the Adriatic or ride the city sightseeing bus up to Cliff Fortress just outside the city for sweeping views over Split and the coast. Second, if you’re a foodie, I highly recommend joining a local food tour. You’ll get to taste creation specialtities like Black Risoto while exploring the old town on foot. It’s basically a walking tour and a culinary experience rolled into one. I’ve linked my curated list of experiences below if you’d like to check them out. Moving on, after sunset, if you went with a tour, head back down to Perry Style Square where you might stumble upon live music, a beautiful spot to wrap up your day with dinner nearby. If you’d prefer something more low-key in summer, you can catch a movie at the open air cinema near Bagvichi Beach, where popular classics are presented in English with Croatian subtitles. Finally, if you’re still up for a drink, Fabric Pub is a great spot to end your night casual, stylish, and close to everything.
