Our Spring ROADTRIP in France by Motorhome Ep 4
Another new day and another trip on the road. We’ve had our couple of nights stay at La Roelle at Camping Bolu. Sorry if I’m not saying that right. I’ll put the um the name below. And uh Brian’s just filling up. more diesel. Um, not to worry. You need to travel. You need to do it, don’t you? So, we’re on uh our way now to nons and uh scary face at the window there. So, um yeah, and we’ll show you around there, too. Well, we’ve made it to N. Yeah. how we managed to find the uh camping car park. God, that’s how we managed it. Yeah, it were well and truly hidden. I had one satnav telling me which direction to go and then thought we’ll put mobile phone on as well because it compound compound street from the satnav. So, we ended up having both running and they’re both telling us different lanes. And you’re thinking, well, if I go with actual sat now, it’s set up for vans, so it’s not going to send me down any streets I can’t go down. And then there’s things that look like cycle lanes that aren’t actually cycle lanes, but it don’t actually Yeah, we saw cars going down, so we followed them, didn’t we? Yeah. Luckily, we found it then. Easy enough. Only just there were about three spaces left. Yeah, there weren’t many left. I think there’s one left now. Yeah, I’m not tired of it. 43. So, we’re just going to take um a walk bus or tram, whichever comes first. I think it only takes like 10 minutes. And as far as I’m aware, the bus stop is just on the main street outside the camping car. We’ll give it a go. We’ll let you know. Worst case scenario. Sun keeps coming out of here. It’s cloudy. It were raining on the way over, but uh yeah, luckily it were only a little duration and we weren’t for long. Let’s uh go venture on the bus stroke. Well, we got off where we think the center. We still might have a little bit of a walk. Who knows? It’s all an adventure. So in front of us we’ve got the uh Louis V 16th Louis the 16th column also known as the column of freedom. And what cathedral is that one? That one. And we’ve got St. Pierre Cathedral. Apparently it’s got some um resemblance to um another cathedral um similarities to NRAAM in Paris. Oo. Let’s take a closer look now. Looks like they’re doing some work on it. The Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul of Nance was constructed in 1434 on the site of a romanesque cathedral and took 450 years to finish in 1891. Wonder if you can get it on camera. We found out that the cathedral will reopen to the public in September 2025, which is more than 5 years after an arson attack caused extensive damage to the building. This is Gothic style architecture. So the chat desang sorry about the pronunciation but it’s only going to get uh large castle located on the in the city of nons in the law at antique department of France served as a center of historical providence of Britany until the separation in 1956. [Music] [Music] Inside is a history museum which is spread over 32 rooms showcasing 1,100 objects from its vast collection. We didn’t go into the um museum. We just walked around the walls. So over there I think hopefully you can see is the old Lu biscuit. The Lu opened on the river bank opposite the castle and became famous for the Peta biscuits sold today. And that was in 1895. Fred. In 1998, the factory became a cultural center called the L Munique. It used to be like 1895, 1911, and right through to 1998. Brian’s got the sneezes and he’s had them a long, long time now. So St. Croy or historic church with the bell tower 17th century altar and gothic stained glass windows. [Music] Let’s [Music] talk. [Music] Here drink. [Music] [Music] So, next to the air, we’ve got um seems to be like a camping camping site, which is good cuz they’ve got like a a bar. Um toilets. I’m not not 100% sure you can use them. Um this is the bar area and there’s like a tourist office. Got like a mini golf. Um, looks like the camping sites through those areas there. [Music] This I think the toilets are inside. So, I don’t know whether this is open 24 hours. I’m not sure. show you the map here. You caught the number two tram which is just on the opposite side of the road. Um, free on weekends. We’re just up here. There’s just 15 places at this air, but like I say, there’s the uh proper campsite just across the way. Not sure how much that one would be. Morning. That was just a snapshot. Very nice. Nice old building. And uh just old buildings, weren’t there? Yeah. Bit of history. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Lots of bars, cafes, tiny little streets as you can see. Only had a couple of hours there though, but um it was great. So yeah, it was quite nice. We’re only 50 spots when they got taken quite quickly. We got there about two and there were only three left and then it quite piece of water. Yeah. Yeah. There were road road fairly nearby but it quietened down. So did but then in the morning this morning it started I got up with Tinkerbell at 7 noise making stop camping hack and then like I said the little campsite side of it which could possibly use. Anyway, we’re on his way now further north. So, we’re making this way back home for a couple of more days. Yeah, and we’ll catch up here soon. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, comment. Does anybody else need to dance? Um, I’d recommend it as a stopover. It’s a stop over. Yeah, definitely. Just to see. Um, let us know your thoughts. [Music] Well, we make it into Lemon. I don’t know if that were just bus stop. Don’t know. Yeah. Got bus down from uh it’s um I don’t think it what I were expecting to be quite honest. Took 20 minutes, didn’t it? I don’t mean that. I mean as well this I don’t know. I think we’re expecting it to be like a modern city or or whatever. But obviously we’re we’ll have a look around and find this. [Music] Julian’s Cathedral. [Music] beautiful inside as uh I’ll show you now. I haven’t taken lots of everything, but it’s that’s absolutely lovely and very impressive. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Julian of Lemon, the city’s first bishop, who established Christianity in the area around the beginning of the 4th century. The cathedral measures 134 m long and covering a ground area of 5,000 square meters. [Music] As you can see, there’s more to Lemon than the 24hour racetrack. Walking through its quaint and quirky cobbled streets, you can see the timber framed houses and renaissance hotels. It’s really is a lovely place to wander around. It also boasts a few museums. Obviously, you’ve got your 24-hour racing museum, histories, art, militaries, and also art galleries. [Music] So, I’ve just come back after a day into uh Lemon. [Applause] Just checking the battery. I’ll just show you where we start. There is a train line just up one side and then there’s um a little stream at at the back of us just down there. Um there’s room for 16 vans here um with electric. So that’s pretty good. And then just show you the So, we’ve got your your gray waste, your bins, your water there. I’ll just show you the map. Here we are. Air Sat Saturning. Like I say, it’s a camping car park. Nice little village. You can walk up to the little village. There’s like shops and bars there. Just nice to look around. Um just at the other side of the stream here, you’ve got the bus stops just there, not too far away. And this building here is like a cultural place. So, it does arts, theater, dance. It’s also got a gym, um, hires out rooms, loads of things. So, we’ve just heard a little bit of noise, but it’s only half 8. It’s not too bad, but just for warn you if anybody stays here. So, yeah, that’s it here at uh the mall. Nice. Hope you’ve liked what you’ve seen. um from today’s video. All the lovely old buildings. Right, time to get back, put my feet up and watch TV. French of course.
Nantes & Le Mans
Starting to make our way north now as we enter our 2nd week in France.
So we stop off at Nantes at a camping car park, at Petit Port it’s a dedicated stopover area with 15 pitches, and costs €14.96 per 24 hours with electric.
Address is 21 boulevard du petit port, 44100 Nantes.
As you saw this was ideally situated at the side of a Camping Site with miniature Golf, bar/cafe, and a tourist information office, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The Tram/bus stop is only a 5 – 10 minute walk and takes you into the Town Centre.
After a peaceful night amongst the trees, we set off to Le Mans and another Camping Car Park called Saint-Saturnin it has 16 pitches and again costs from €14.96 per 24 hours, with electric.
Address is Rue de l’Église, 72650 Saint-Saturnin,
The bus stop into Town was just a couple of minutes walk from the site, and also a lovely little village to visit too. Yes it was quite noisy with the trains, but didn’t hear them through the night.
Once we got into Le Mans, the place took us by surprise and did not expect the half timbered houses, cobbled streets, quaint shops/cafes. Through a stone archway you can walk into the New town of Le Mans, with its modern shops, supermarkets bars and restaurants.
