Perfect Afternoon in Nice🇫🇷– 4K Walking Tour Promenade & Old Town
Welcome to Walking Riviera! Today we’ll take a journey through Nice The capital of the French Riviera and one of Europe’s most visited cities. This 4K walking tour will guide you through its modern avenues, and historic squares. And the world-famous Promenade des Anglais and the colorful old town. Avenue Jean Médecin is the main artery of the city of Nice It was named after Jean Médecin, the longest-serving mayor of Nice. Who shaped much of the city’s modern identity during the 20th century. Here you find a mix of luxury boutiques, international brands, and everyday shops for locals. The tramway, inaugurated in 2007, restored this avenue as a pedestrian-friendly space. Historically, this area was part of the Paillon River plain, which was covered in the 19th century to allow urban expansion. On summer evenings we can see the locals strolling and going out to enjoy the sunset. For Niçois residents, this avenue is not just a shopping street — it’s a meeting point, a parade route, and a symbol of the city’s growth.” We now reach Place Masséna, the beating heart of Nice. Its red ochre façades, arcades, and checkerboard pavement reveal the strong Italian influence. Since Nice was part of the Kingdom of Sardinia until 1860. The square was built in the mid-19th century after the Paillon River was covered, connecting the Old Town with the new districts. At night, the illuminated statues by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa dominate the scene. They represent the seven continents, glowing as a symbol of communication between peoples. You can find local artists performing in the middle of the Plaza. Today, a pianist playing in the open air adds a poetic touch to one of the most emblematic spaces in southern France.” This is part of the local charm and why Nice is one of the most attractive cities on the French Riviera. As we move toward the restaurant district, we dive into Niçois gastronomy. Among the specialties is ‘socca,’ a thin chickpea pancake baked in a wood-fired oven, traditionally eaten hot and crispy. Here we are at the Promenade des Anglais, the symbol of Nice. The promenade was created in the early 19th century thanks to English aristocrats who spent their winters on the Riviera. The beaches of Nice are famous for their round pebbles, called ‘galets. Unlike sandy beaches, these stones come from the Var River and have shaped the city’s coastline for centuries On Sundays, this becomes the favorite meeting spot for families, students, and groups of friends. The Promenade also carries memories of difficult times. In July 2016, it was the site of a tragic attack during Bastille Day celebrations — an event that deeply marked the city’s soul. Despite what happened, the promenade comes alive every day: joggers, cyclists, families, and tourists enjoy the Riviera sunshine. It remains the city’s most prized setting, open to the Mediterranean. On Sundays, this becomes the favorite meeting spot for families, students, and groups of friends. Children play at the water’s edge, couples relax on beach towels, and others dive into the crystal-clear sea. The relationship between Niçois people and the sea is profound — from fishermen who once worked these waters, to today’s thriving tourism. For many, this seafront is not just a beach, but the soul of Nice, where life slows down under the Mediterranean sun.” On this Sunday afternoon, the last day of August, many gather on the beach to say goodbye to summer. If you come to Nice, I recommend taking this tour of the Promenade, especially in the afternoon so you can feel the soul and vibe of the city. These views of the Mediterranean at sunset are truly impressive, even more so with the city of Nice in the background. We now arrive at Cours Saleya, one of the most vibrant squares in the city. By day, it is home to the famous flower market, established in the 19th century, where merchants still sell roses, lavender, and Mediterranean plants. Entering the Old Town, or Vieux-Nice, feels like stepping into Italy. The narrow alleys are lined with ochre and yellow façades, shutters painted in green or blue, and laundry hanging from balconies Details that reflect a Mediterranean way of life. At this time, at dusk, it is common to see locals sitting on restaurant terraces having an aperitif, especially on weekends. This quarter is also filled with artisan shops selling olive oil, soaps made with lavender, and local sweets like ‘calissons’ and candied fruits. The charm of old Nice is that you can get lost in its narrow streets and discover new places. Walking through Vieux-Nice, you sense the continuity of centuries: from Genoese traders to today’s cosmopolitan visitors.” One of the jewels here is Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, a Baroque masterpiece from the 17th century, dedicated to the patron saint of Nice. Legend says Saint Réparate was a young martyr from Palestine, whose body was brought to Nice by angels. Another beautiful thing about the city, especially in the historic part, is that it has a wide variety of restaurants, where you will find different specialties. It is truly beautiful to see how the city comes alive in the evening, full of locals and tourists looking to experience the city. Our journey through Nice comes to an end in the Old Town, where history and daily life coexist in every street. From the grand Avenue Jean Médecin, to the elegance of Place Masséna, the symbolic Promenade des Anglais. And the authenticity of Cours Saleya, we’ve experienced the true essence of this city. Nice is more than a destination — it is a bridge between cultures, a place where Italian charm, French elegance, and Mediterranean joy meet. Thank you for joining this 4K walking tour. Until the next walk along the French Riviera.”

About me and this channel
Hi, I’m a Latina who moved to France seven years ago. I’m a psychologist and educator by background — someone who naturally loves helping others and chooses to see the positive side of life. Adapting to this new culture was a personal challenge, but it also opened my eyes to a world both unfamiliar and beautiful.
This channel was born from that experience: to show that on the French Riviera, luxury and everyday life aren’t opposites — they complement each other. Through immersive, silent walking tours — with no music and no commentary — I share the real atmosphere: quiet streets, local shops, seaside paths, and the peaceful rhythm of daily life.
Walking Riviera is a visual space where simplicity and elegance meet — created for those who want to slow down, observe, and truly experience this part of the world as it is lived.
Thanks!!!
