US Tourism Declines & ESTA Fee Doubles | Europe Border Changes & Travel Alerts
[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Good evening. It’s 9:00 p.m. in Atlanta, 2 a.m. in London, 5:00 a.m. in Dubai, and 11:00 a.m. in Melbourne. I’m Jennifer Deon with your Travel and Tour World, or TTW news update. First, tourism across the United States is slumping with Florida, Hawaii, Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Arizona among the hardest hit. Visitor numbers have fallen for eight straight months, largely due to a sharp decline in international arrivals from Canada and Western Europe. Florida alone lost 3.5 million visitors year onear, while Hawaii dropped 300,000. At the same time, travel to the United States is about to get even more costly. Washington will nearly double the ESTA travel authorization fee from $21 to $40 starting September 30th. So for a family of four, that’s $160 just in entry fees. Industry leaders warn this will make the US less competitive as a destination, especially when rivals are making travel easier and cheaper. And now moving to Europe, Canada has issued a travel advisory covering Hungary, France, Germany, Denmark and more. The advisory cites a spectrum of re you know reasons depending on the country ranging from petty crime, terrorism risks and the roll out of the new entry exit system starting in October which will mean longer waits at border checks. So that’s your TTW late edition. For more on how policies and advisories are shaping global travel, please head to travel and tour world.com. We’ll have more updates for you soon.
