Top 7 Places To Stay In Tokyo | Why You Should And Shouldn’t Stay Here

Tokyo is the world’s most populated city with over 37 million people and it’s the world’s largest urban area it really is a massive City but where should you stay to make the most of your time in Tokyo you need to stay in multiple areas how hard is it to get around I’m Hong fam and today let’s dive into these questions and more as we take a look at the top seven places to stay in the city of Tokyo the next station is too [Music] this list is in no particular order and for each place we’ll go over the pros and cons to help you make a decision on what place fits you best and I’ll give you my personal rating for each Place let’s dive into it starting off with number seven one of the most iconic spots in Tokyo and one that people really love staying at this is Shinjuku the next station is Shinjuku Shinjuku is home to the world’s busiest train station and this can be a pro and a Shinjuku really is a hub of so many different things from food to shopping and especially for nightlife this area is The Nightlife capital of Tokyo so if that’s your Vibe then this is the place for you the streets are filled with amazing food as well so much so that you won’t even be able to try everything not even close there is a reason why this area has the busiest train station in the world nearby you’ll find the Tokyo Metropolitan government building with its free observation deck and the famous Godzilla statue overlooking the streets of kabukicho The Nightlife Capital amongst so many more things I have video guides for many of these specific places so feel free to check those out all right so Shinjuku is packed with a lot of things to do but what do I rate it well let’s break it down into three categories convenience atmosphere and stayability for Shinjuku convenience is a 9 out of 10 Shinjuku station being the largest in the world means that there are plenty of ways to get from Shinjuku to almost anywhere the only reason Reon that it is a 9 out of 10 is because of its completely overwhelming complexity of this massive massive station which can make it a tad annoying to go through it also is a bit in the Northwest direction of Tokyo meaning that it isn’t quite Central so depending on where you’re going you could be on the train for a while for atmosphere Shinjuku is a 6 out of 10 for being a very lively place but parts of kabukicho and the area known for its nightlife and being Tokyo’s red light district can be a little bit sketchy by Tokyo standards overall it’s a great place but it’s something to be aware of it’s also said that it is a bit dirtier here than compared to pretty much everywhere else in Tokyo for stayability Shinjuku is a 10 out of 10 because there are plenty of hotels and places to stay in Shinjuku many of which are within the over 200 entrances of Shinjuku station the prices of accommodations in Shinjuku are typically cheaper than other places in Tokyo like sh buya there are also so many things to do in Shinjuku you could stay your entire trip not running out of things to do just in this area though I wouldn’t advise that total for Shinjuku we are looking at a 25 out of 30 which is solid next at number six we have Ginza the next up is Ginza this is the luxury destination for those looking for some of the most upscale dining shopping and activities not only in Tokyo but in the world if you’re into fashion and shopping then make sure you at least make a stop here if not stay here check out the mitsukoshi Ginza store which is one of Tokyo’s oldest and most luxurious department stores a place offering the allore of Elegance this place has not only high-end fashion B gourmet food as well Ginza does have a nightlife though it’s not really worth comparing to Shinjuku which is much better since Ginza is mostly stores those do close around 7: to 8:00 p.m. in the evenings and while there are restaurants and bars that open later it is not nearly as vibrant which is good if you’re looking for a place that doesn’t have tons of people walking around at 3:00 a.m. all right let’s break it down convenience atmosphere stayability convenience for Ginza is a 10 out of 10 Ginza station while being much smaller and not ranked on the top 20 busiest train stations does offer extremely convenient train lines to the rest of Tokyo you can take a direct line without transferring to many of the other major places in Tokyo including Shinjuku Shibuya Akihabara and you are just one stop away from Tokyo Station which is the eighth most busy station in the world and which means you are one station away from plenty of other connections including the bullet train it is also within walking distance of the ski outer Market which has tons of amazing street foods and other places and is home to the World Famous Fish Market ginza’s atmosphere gets a 7 out of 10 for its luxurious atmosphere and being the fashion capital of Tokyo the downsides of this is that the nightlife can be a little bit lacking compared to some of the other places in Tokyo and the vibe can be a little less Lively but this might be a positive thing for you lastly Ginza stayability is a 6 out of 10 mainly due to two factors it’s not one of the cheapest places to stay in Tokyo obviously for the luxury you’re paying a price to stay here secondly it can be a bit farther from the other main places in Tokyo and while you can take a train directly to many of these other places it can feel a bit isolated as you would most likely run out of things to do in Ginza itself and have to keep going to other places that brings Ginza to a total of 23 out of 30 our next location at number five is akasaka the next stop is akas this spot is considered by many to be one of the best Hidden Gem locations for staying in Tokyo it combines the urban city life with a bit calmer less touristy atmosphere than places like Shinjuku or shabuya this area is known for its food you will find some of the best restaurants in Tokyo here there are stores for shopping streets to roam and sites to see like the shrines and the akasaka palace all right let’s break it down again with our three categories convenience atmosphere and stayability convenience gets an 8 out of 10 akasaka is not quite as connected as other places with its station being quite small but location wise it is right next to the major areas like shabuya rangi and Ginza most natural rides from here will be very short as it is very Central to other locations however again you might have to do some transfers because of the fact that the station is pretty small it doesn’t have all the lines atmosphere here is an 8 out of 10 for being quite a lively place but it can be a bit noisy depending on where you are especially since there’s a decent bit of night life here now on to stayability 6 out of 10 there are less tourist attractions here than in most places so you’ll probably end up traveling a lot though this place is fairly Central so it won’t be as far but you won’t want to spend an entire week just here in akasaka it can also be quite pricey to stay here though there are many places of different price points to look at people really seem to like this area for being their Central Hub and it is quite centralized but for me personally the offset of less attractions being in the area itself takes off a few points and that means you’re doing a lot of traveling on the train and going to other places the total here is 22 out of 30 looking at number four four we have Akihabara the next station is Akihabara this is the electric town and Anime District of Tokyo and if you’re into that anime life then look no further this place is absolutely filled with stores to shop for anything and everything anime related and if you’re looking for specific or even limited edition anime figures odds are it’s here somewhere in the tons of shops if you can find it one of the most famous anime stores is Radio kaien which is a 10-story building f build to the brim with anime merch there are also tons of cafes here including the famous made cafes which mainly are the made dreaming cafes and there’s a lot of them now convenience atmosphere stayability convenience for akih Habra is a 4 out of 10 why so low well there’s only one line servicing the Akihabara station and it’s the huya line and that line doesn’t run directly to Shinjuku Shibuya or Tokyo Station it does run through Ginza but the line itself is very roundabout so you will have to transfer at some point to go to the vast majority of other places akih Habra is very Lively during the day where you’ll find lots of people walking around and carrying their stuffed animals or anime figures that they’ve won from the many arcades or bought from the who knows how many stores here and you will also find a lot of maids walking around advertising for the maid dreaming Cafe and that just it just makes the vibe very Lively however at night the vast majority of all of these attractions close this area is not known for its night life so you will most likely end up going somewhere else to do things in the evening so due to this it makes the atmosphere score a 5 out of 10 lastly the stayability and this is a 4 out of 10 mostly for the reasons I mentioned before the electri town area of akih Habra is very small and you can see most things there in an afternoon so staying here in my opinion really isn’t worth it but don’t get me wrong this area is definitely worth visiting so for aabra we’re looking at a total of 13 out of 30 now number three we have Tao City and this is sort of cheating cuz I’m kind of combining yuino and asakusa into one the next I hope I’m saying those right yuino station is directly next to yuino Park which is a massive Park offering tranquil Vibes in the midst of Tokyo’s chaos asakusa station is also right next to the Seno G Temple and the famous nakamori street which is very touristy asakusa station is also two stops away from the Tokyo Sky Tree which is actually very far from the other areas in the South and Western areas of Tokyo like Shinjuku shabuya and Ginza it’s kind of out of the way of everything except asaku station this area is particularly Lively during the day with lots of tourists flooding to the shrines and the stores here so it’s it’s going to be very crowded and touristy all right let’s break it down convenience atmosphere stayability for convenience the uino asakusa area is a 5 out of 10 like I mentioned before about the Sky Tree being out of the way of major hubs like Shinjuku and Shibuya and pretty much everywhere else in Tokyo the same can be said about yuino and asakusa from yuino you can walk to akih Habra which is convenient but akih habra’s nightlife problem is still present in yuino and akuka as well and if you’re looking for peace and quiet away from the craziness of Shinjuku then this might be a good spot for you but if you’re looking for things to do in the evening and that nightlife Vibe then this is not the area that brings us into atmosphere which gets an 8 out of 10 this area does give you those touristy Vibes especially in the areas near the shrines along with the city Vibes and good restaurants and the peace and calmness at night as tourists leave this area to go elsewhere overall it’s not bad but the lack of nightlife contributes to the minus two points lastly stayability this area gets a 6 out of 10 this area is cheaper than other areas in Tokyo and there are things to do around here so staying here is an option however being so far away from Shinjuku and shabuya for example and just going to shabuya from here you have to take the Ginza line which starts at asakusa and ends in Shibuya which means you on the train for a whopping 18 stops it’s not the most convenient place but it’s also not the least convenient place with some major attractions here as well the total for the area of uino and asakusa is 21 out of 30 moving right along to number two Shibuya the next station is Shibuya so I have a whole video on Shibuya and if you want all the details go and check that out Shibuya station is the second most busy station in the world after Shinjuku and The Vibes of shabuya are similar to Shinjuku well sort of shabuya has all the hustle and bustle of the city life but more of a fun vibe compared to Shinjuku there is plenty to do in shabuya from going up the shabuya sky which is Tokyo’s thirdd highest observation deck to going to the flagship Mega Don kyot store there is plenty to see do shop and eat shabuya kind of has it all with this amazing food and different variety of shopping from budget to high-end and a nightlife vibe that is unmatched right outside of shabuya station is the world famous shabuya Crossing scramble which sees around 2.4 million people cross it per day and it’s called the world’s busiest crosswalk there’s a reason why all these people are in one area because because it’s a great place to be all right let’s break it down for convenience shabuya is a 9 out of 10 the station here is very well connected to the rest of Tokyo but the only drawback is that it’s on the southwestern part of Tokyo and that means if you’re trying to get to say the Eastern side like asakusa like we mentioned before or to Disney for example you’ll be on the train for quite some time the atmosphere in Shibuya is unmatched and I personally love the vibe here and so I might be a little biased but I think shabuya offers the most fun Vibes especially nightlife I personally love the vibe here and I may be a little biased but I think shabuya offers the most fun vibe and especially nighlife it’s Lively with lots of people and things to do while unlike Shinjuku isn’t filled with bars and red light district Vibes it’s much more fun and friendly 10 out of 10 lastly stayability 8 out of 10 there are plenty of Hotel options here in different price ranges and we personally stayed a little bit farther away from the main Crossing itself to avoid the noise at night but still close enough that we could just walk over and enjoy the downtown Vibes if we wanted there’s plenty to do here and lots of shopping for all different price ranges and different levels of fanciness you’re just one to three stops away from Shinjuku depending on which line you take and you have four to five different options as these two are the two busiest train hubs in the world you can go to other places as well fairly conveniently but what I enjoyed the most is after wrapping up a day exploring some other area of Tokyo being able to come back to chibuya and strolling the city and eating and shopping before going back to the hotel was really fun so I like coming back to a lively vibrant area that I can also just hang out in if I wanted to before I go back 27 out of 30 totally recommend last but not least we have Tokyo Station the next station is Tokyo when in Tokyo why not stay near Tokyo Station this area is right next to the Imperial Palace just two stops away from akih Habra and one stop away from Ginza basically the center of the city itself Tokyo station is the eighth busiest station in the world and the station itself has plenty to do inside including food and shopping the station building itself is quite iconic and is a very distinct building that stands out in Tokyo but let’s dive into the details by breaking it down for convenience Tokyo Station gets a 10 out of 10 it has most major lines connecting through it making it very convenient to get nearly anywhere else if you’re only spending a short time in Tokyo and you’re going elsewhere in Japan then you might want to stay here just because of the convenience of the bullet trains bullet trains do usually start from here so if you’re going to Osaka or Kyoto or elsewhere in Japan it’s pretty convenient the atmosphere here is a 4 out of 10 it’s not the most lively place at night though you can go somewhere else like Ginza nearby for more of a night life it is very pleasant here at night and is on the quieter side as there are a lot of business buildings here that do close for stayability we’re looking at a 5 out of 10 for being a convenient place however it is lacking in the night life and things to do outside of its major convenience total for Tokyo station 19 out of 30 let me know what you think do you agree with these ratings or do you think some should be higher or lower let me know in the comments section down below and let me know what your favorite place to stay in Tokyo is and on that note I will see you guys 1. Just back from our first family trip to Japan and in Tokyo we stayed in … Tsukiji. Don't seem it mentioned anywhere. We liked it though, pretty quiet at night, good restaurants & easy to get to any part of Tokyo.

  2. Yeah, I think this list is more for if you're a "party animal" type maybe. Too much emphasis placed on nightlife. I don't think this list is practical for those of us who don't mind being able to retreat from all the madness at the end of the night, after a long day of over-stimulation/sensory overload. So I guess it really depends what type of experience you are seeking. I'm staying in a more residential area that I can retreat to after a long day out. It's a retreat, but still very close to a station as well as the airport since I will require access during the midpoint of my trip (I'm staying for closer to a month, pretty much all of November).

  3. My favorite so far has been Otsuka the APA hotel is roughly a block away from the station there is a Denny's and a Royal Host there, I don't like Japanese Breakfast I prefer western style Breakfast there are a ton of other food options there for lunch and dinner. It's on the Yamanote line so you have direct access to the entire city and region

  4. Great prospective!
I like the detailed pros and cons.
Any recommendation for two single guys visiting in late November for about a week.
We’re looking for a hotel between Shinjuku and Shibuya that has a transfer from Narita airport and preferably a breakfast included. Prefer not to deal with trains and luggage.

  5. I stayed in Ryogoku Kokugikan, it was a fair walk from the nearest station but it was very cool to stay near the big sumo dome. Quiet and affordable.

  6. Thanks for your video, I'm planning on going in November for 14 days, on arrival I will go on train to visit in about 1 one week Enoshima/Kamakura, Kyoto, Osaka, and others city (I know it not enough) then going back to Tokyo to spend the last week there visiting the city.
At Tokyo I want to avoid places near red district to avoid tourist trap and crowded at night

  7. I once stayed near Kiba station. We mainly wanted to go to both Disneylands, Odaiba, Yokohama, and mainly the advice of staying near a station that was also central enough. It was a quiet little area but had everything we needed to feel like a pure experience

  8. I stayed in Sumida, which was actually pretty nice and affordable. Other parts of the city were easy to reach by train, it was relatively quiet in the evening and I had a great view of the skytree from my hotel window

  9. @hoangpham thank you for the great video and helpful info! Do you have any opinions on staying in the koto city kameido! My friend booked something out there but i was thinking of staying somewhere closer to shinjuku / shibuya area! Thank you for everything!
