Sacré Cœur de Montmartre or Sacred Heart of Montmartre Church. – Paris France – ECTV

Hey everybody, this is Eric Clark’s travel videos and I’m in Paris, France and behind me is Sakur. It’s a church on top of the hill and it’s pretty amazing. You can walk up or take a tram but it’s incredible. Let’s take a look. So this is it and it is stupendous. Truly amazing. Wow. Wow. Crazy amazing. Look at that. Now, let’s see if we can get inside. Um, and you can see the crowds are just horrendous. So, um, let me go show you the drop off first. So, the view from up here, cuz you really do literally have to drive uh climb a mountain. And there’s the tram or there’s the walk up. And so the walk up is is certainly a tough one, but it, you know, not undoable. I’ve done it multiple times. But, uh, let me get over here so I can show you the the walk up and you can see what we’re dealing with here. Um, we are Wow. It’s actually just been a monument to look at. It’s never been meant to be. And I don’t know if you can see the street way way way way down there. It’s It’s a good maybe 20 floors. Let’s go in here and see if we can get inside. That’s pretty amazing. Wow. Wow. Wow. Amazing. Well, that’s crap. My uh lens broke. You see the lens right there? All right, I’m going to have to undo that. But what’s this line for? Is this line to get in or is this Yeah, this looks horrendous. This looks like it’s going to be a bunch of people standing in the rain here in a second. Oh, I see. So, the line goes from here. It goes all the way down all the way down all the way around there and then comes all the way back up here to get inside. So, it’s quite the line. I guess I’ll go stand in line and see how long it starts to move. I guess it seems to be moving pretty good. But this is it. So, not too bad, maybe. I don’t know. I guess we’ll we’ll see how it goes. Crazy. Okay. I got to go remove my lens cuz it’s broken. Okay. Bye, everybody. Uh, well, the line’s not moving too slow, so I think I’m doing okay. But you can see how many people are up here. And it’s still climbing up here, so it’s pretty crazy. Um, Man, do you know why they put it on a blanket like this? Everybody puts it on a blanket so when the police come, they can grab all four corners, pick it up, and run. And they all do. And I’ve seen them running with all their crap, even dropping stuff behind just to get away from the police. But uh this is the church. Pretty amazing. And the line’s moving, though, so I’m I’m happy about the line moving. So, pretty amazing. All right. Well, maybe it won’t be more than 15 minutes, 20 minutes. As long as it doesn’t start raining. Okay. Bye, everybody. All right, everybody. I made it inside and uh let’s go inside and take a look here. So, I had a problem on the way in. Um, some lady and her husband tried to cut and so you know me, I don’t I don’t tolerate that monkey But we’ll see. Amazing. Wow. So, the lady I confronted her husband and he stopped and sat outside. She just cut right in front of all those people. Cut in front of a 30 minute line just so she could get in. It’s pretty crazy. Anyway, this is a wonderful church. And it looks like the line goes around this way and you work your way through and then you come out this side. So, let’s see if we can uh go that way. I’m sorry. Wow. Silver. Wow. Pretty amazing. Wow. Another silver one. Oh, you’re fine. Thank you. gorgeous stained glass over there. All right, everybody. Well, let me tell you my thoughts. My thoughts. I’ve seen much more ornate churches inside. outside. This is a 10. It’s amazing and incredible, but on the inside it’s I’d give it a good six or seven. I mean, it’s still amazing and incredible, but it’s still not uh you know, I’ve seen some that are just that would just blow this away. It’s just incredible. But, uh yeah, anyway, the storm’s coming, so it’s about time to go. But I thought I’d get over here and get a view for you. There’s the city. Wow. Pretty amazing. Wow. And again, you can climb the stairs or you can take the tram. One or the other. Sakur. Bye everybody. That’s it. Thanks for coming.

The Basilica of Sacré Cœur de Montmartre (English: Sacred Heart of Montmartre), commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur (French: Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, pronounced [sakre kœr]), is a Catholic church and minor basilica in Paris dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was formally approved as a national historic monument by the National Commission of Patrimony and Architecture on December 8, 2022.[1]

Sacré-Cœur Basilica is located at the summit of the butte of Montmartre. From its dome two hundred meters above the Seine, the basilica overlooks the entire city of Paris and its suburbs. It is the second most popular tourist destination in the capital after the Eiffel Tower.[1]

The basilica was first proposed by Felix Fournier, the Bishop of Nantes, in 1870 after the defeat of France and the capture of Napoleon III at the Battle of Sedan in the Franco-Prussian War. He attributed the defeat of France to the moral decline of the country since the French Revolution, and proposed a new Parisian church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.[2] The edifice was proposed before the outbreak of the Paris Commune but since it was constructed at the highest point of the city, overlooking the site of the outbreak of the Commune and the rest of the city, it has remained controversial with politicians of the French left, for whom it symbolizes the repression of the Communards.

The basilica was designed by Paul Abadie, whose Neo-Byzantine-Romanesque plan was selected from among seventy-seven proposals. Construction began in 1875 and continued for forty years under five different architects. Completed in 1914, the basilica was formally consecrated in 1919 after World War I.[3]

Sacré-Cœur Basilica has maintained perpetual adoration of the Holy Eucharist since 1885. The site is traditionally associated with the martyrdom of Saint Denis, the patron saint of Paris.[4]
