CROWDED & EXPENSIVE in PORT de SOLLER, Mallorca [September 2025], Spain

So, in this video, I’ve come down here to Port Do Soya to see what this side of Mayorca is like in September. Now, if you watch back my content, if you watch back my videos from the summer, you would have seen what it’s like in peak season in the evenings, but I’m back here. It’s daytime. It’s coming up to around 3:00 and I’m just around the corner here from the tram stop here in Port Soyer. Should we go and see how busy it is? So let’s go and see how many people are waiting to get that tram back to Soyer oldtown and let’s see what the atmosphere is like in Port to Soyer this afternoon. So the time is 10 to 3 and there is a tram back to Soya Oldtown at 3:00 and we can see crowds gathering. I can see somebody holding an umbrella here. I’m wondering whether this is a a tour group but my goodness it is busy now. We are expecting the tram to come into the station in just a little while, but um let’s get a feeling as to how busy it is over here in Port Soyer in September. So, we’ve got a cycle group coming by as well at the same time and just crowds and crowds of people waiting to get the wooden tram back to Suya Oldtown. I mean, check this out. Look, there’s no pushing into the queue here. Let’s walk up through the middle and head on down towards the waterfront. So, I’m hearing several nationalities here this afternoon. No one nationality stands out. Not by any means, but um goodness me. We have a lot of people over here in Portoyer today. And to my left hand side, I can just hear a French tour group. If you watch my video from over in Santa Ponza just a few days ago, actually, you’ll know that we we do have a lot of French visitors over here in the resorts at the moment. And well, Port Soya is no exception. Anyway, before the tram comes in, let’s go and take a quick look at the waterfront down here because my goodness, it’s absolutely lovely here today. So, I’m down here the day after we’ve had quite a big storm over here in Mayorca. You may well have seen the video because, well, we do often get storms in September. But, like I always say, these storms do not stick around. The air has cleared slightly as well and it’s a little bit cooler and a little bit fresher. So, if you think no one is coming to Mayora any longer, well, you’re going to be mistaken because there there are hordes of people down here. There are crowds of people down here and Port Soyer in particular is just one of the most popular places on the island. Anyway, let’s turn the camera back around here and let’s take a look at this area down here by the port today. So I am just standing to the right hand side of the Mar Isol restaurant just panning the camera around here to these lovely traditional little Mayen boats and way off in the distance here that you can see the Soyer tram is is making its way along the waterfront here to the train station. Now, I can only see it has I think that’s two small carriages, and that’s nowhere near enough to to take back all the waiting passengers, but they do normally send a second tram to pick up the overflow. So, let’s go and see. Let’s go and see how busy it is. So, I’ve seen this in another video actually, and the front part of the tram breaks itself away because this is now going to move to the front of the returning tram. And this back section here, look, the section that came along the waterfront first is going to form the back part of the tram. It’s all kind of having to reorganize itself. And look too to ease congestion here. The front two trams have come a little bit further along the port just so we don’t have this really really congested area back at the tram stop. And I’m right over here by the bag shop. So, uh this is something I’ve not seen before. I think this is really to do with uh with managing the huge crowds that we do have over here. And look, we can see actually some passengers getting on here as well. At least trying to get on here. I’m guessing this is going to slowly make its way back down to the main tram stop, too. But you can see where I am here. I’m on Cay Santa Catarina and this this whole line of restaurants. Let’s just take a quick walk up here and see how busy it is. And it is looking rather busy this afternoon. So, just taking a very quick shortcut up the hill here. You can see how busy it is on this long line of restaurants with the rather amazing sea views or port views I should say. I’ll just slowly pan the camera around here. Now, there is a lovely breeze blowing. We’ve got highs today of around 26° C. Feels a lot warmer in the sun, though, but um it is a relief from the really high temperatures that we’ve been having over the past week or so. So just walking past these tables, I hear Brits, I hear French, I hear Germans, I hear Scandinavians. Not quite sure uh which Scandinavian language is which as you can see that most of the tables that have been taken. We do have a a few sporadic empty tables, but um this is looking quite nice actually for September. It’s not looking overly crowded either. So, if you are coming out for lunch, I don’t think you’re gonna have too many problems getting a table, particularly later on in the afternoon. Anyway, let’s go and head back in the direction of the waterfront. Now, I don’t have too long today to film. I really did want to just give you a flavor of of Port Soyer this afternoon. So, we’re just coming by the waterfront restaurants here. Bearing in mind now, we are approaching 300 p.m. Have the hordes of holiday makers now left the train station. Let’s go and have a quick look. I do still see quite a few people waiting. Actually, I don’t think everyone’s managed to get on the trams that have been uh brought up this afternoon, but I think another is arriving. or let me know how you visited Port Soya this summer. Were you on a cruise? Did you come on the tour or did you make your own way here? There plenty of people walking around with umbrellas and it’s not because we’re expecting rain or or it’s raining anytime soon. These are tour guides, but um look, it’s still looking very busy down here. And I suspect if you’re coming here on a cruise as well, you’re going to be on a tour. Let me know in the comments. So, has this extra tram that has been brought up able to cope with the overflow of of tram customers on its way back to Soya Oldtown? Quite possibly. Jammed in like sardines. Just bear in mind actually if you if your mobility is not amazing, you’re not going to get a seat. I can just see actually some some people not not getting on cuz they’ve seen how busy it is. But um you are going to be packed on like sardines here. You can see roughly how many people are still waiting to get this tram. Are they going to have to wait till the next one? I don’t know. I don’t know. And there’s a bit of shrugging of shoulders going on. A little bit of apologizing to the to the waiting passengers here who haven’t made this very very packed tram heading back to Port Soyer. It sounded like another 5 minutes another one would be along. And if not, then let’s have another quick look at the timet here as some people are already doing to see when they can get back to Soya Oldtown. Look, you can just get a a closer view here. Look, the trains the trams run every half an hour during the day with the last tram out at 5 9. And look, I’ll just show you the the train times to from Soya Oldtown back to Palmer. Don’t forget as well, you can get the bus. You can get the bus back if you are in a rush. My goodness me. Look, I don’t think I’m going to be getting an ice cream this afternoon unless I join a very lengthy queue. But anyway, let’s head on down to the waterfront here. Look, just coming in front of the Myiramar Hotel. This this lovely seated area. I can just see the wind is picking up in the water. But look how beautiful it is today that we do have some really spectacular clouds. But check this out. Really, really pretty. Nice little bit blue sky as well. It’s not making it feel too hot and humid over here in Port Soyer today. So, I’m just looking back here back along where the Mar Soul restaurant is. Don’t forget that actually closes at around 7:00 p.m. It’s not open all day, but you’ll you’ll see that in my in my video which I made during the summer. Let’s take a walk along and see what the beach is like. Now, we did have quite a downpour yesterday, 24 hours um before making this video and I want to go and check out the flags on the beaches as well because they would have done a water quality test. And if you saw my video from over on Keller Mayor Beach, you would have seen that the the red flags were out and swimming was not advised right after the storms that we had. But is it going to be the case over here in Soy airport this afternoon? Well, let’s go and have a quick look. I’m just looking over the beach this afternoon. You can see how busy it is. Almost every sunbed has been taken. I’m not surprised actually. The island does feel very busy today. We had a kind of an enforced day in yesterday with the thunder and the lightning and the rain, but um people have been very very keen to get back out today. And it’s reflected by how busy the restaurants are, too. Look, I’m right underneath the the Fergus Hotel here, the Soya Beach Hotel. And this little restaurant right underneath it is very, very busy. Even so late in the afternoon. It’s kind of that midway point between finishing lunch and dinner. But anyway, look, just to give you a few more views of the beach. Now, I do have some good news for you from over over at Port Soyer, and that is we have green flags on the beaches in abundance here. The the rain has not affected the water quality over here in the port, which is absolutely fantastic. Is this the case right along the beaches? Let’s have a quick look. And it is. Look, just looking straight ahead of me, I can see two more green flags are flying. We can also see how busy the beaches, too. It’s very, very busy today. And nice to see as well that Soya Beach is still rocking the €185 two sunbeds and a beach umbrella rentals. So, I can pretty much guarantee it won’t be that price next year. And that is because the contracts do come up for renewal after about four years. And I’m pretty sure they’ve been that price for at least the past three. Try to think how much they’re going to go up to next year. Anyway, let’s keep heading along. And I’m absolutely loving this look. Right out in the ports, they’ve got a little diving platform here. here. They’ve got kids on the diving platform which is really really nice here over on over on the beach in Port Soyer. But look how busy the waterfront is. I’m guessing many of these people are going to be day trippers. There people coming over to Port Soyer for the day either on the bus or the tram. But look, all the restaurants over here are absolutely packed. Can’t believe it. Do you know what? It does actually feel like rain again. I don’t think or at least I didn’t think going to have any further rain this afternoon. But sometimes the weather forecast isn’t exactly right. Which is why I’m going to ask you to subscribe to the channel if you haven’t done so already. If you’re coming out, I normally try and give a fairly accurate weather forecast and my Monday Monday island update. So, make sure you catch up those videos and hit that notifications bell, too, so you don’t miss that video. And look, check this out. No sooner has one tram gone by then, then we’re getting another tram coming down into Soy airport. No doubt that tram station has got busy once again. And just across the way, look, we’ve got the backup tram as well. Look, they’re sending reinforcements, which I think are going to be needed. And further reinforcements have come. Look, this is this is tram number three as well. Goodness me. That’s almost unbelievable. Can’t believe it. Can’t believe it. So, I’m just looking up a little bit here. Just looking down the waterfront just to give you an idea of what this area is like. We’re coming to the third beach here, which is a little bit more pebbly right in front of the Espendido Hotel. You’re also going to find this area to be a lot quieter as well. I must admit, I personally do quite like a pebbly beach because you don’t get so so sandy. As you can see as well, the big advantage is is that this beach isn’t as busy as the others over here in in Soy airport. And right in front of the Essendido, look, they’ve got a few sunbed rentals down here, too. Not sure if they belong to the hotel. Quite possibly. Who knows? But um the beach here is for everyone to use. You can just see here. Look, we’re coming up to up to Rep. little bit off in the distance. And my goodness me, that is also looking pretty busy this afternoon. So before we go any further, I’m just talking to Trudy who I’ve just met here on the waterfront. Trudy, lovely to meet you. Lovely to meet you. You are a regular normally in Porttoensa. What has brought you over here to Port Soyer? I’ve always wanted to come over here for years and years and years, but I’m so loyal to Portsa and we love it so much that it’s been hard to tear ourselves away, but we finally done it. I love it here. I think it’s very peaceful and slightly quieter. I mean, they’re both very similar. I do miss the Pine Walk, which I really, really love. And I always love the Wednesday market, which is big. And I’m told there’s a market here tomorrow, but I think it’s a lot smaller. It is. So, I do I love it here. And it’s got exactly the same sort of vibe. Um, lots of people our sort of age, so it’s nice and quiet. And I’ll tell you the other thing, I think the water quality looks gorgeous over here. The water looks so clear, just like how the med used to be when I was young. So yeah, and and I’m very pleased to see as well day after a storm, we’ve got green flags down the beaches. Exactly. And I’m not quite And I’m not quite sure what Porto is going to be like. I’m going there soon. Subscribe to the channel, guys, cuz you will see that video. Part of the problem is the last two years we went there in September and we’ve had red flags on the beach every day and it is so upsetting because I love swimming in the med and we just couldn’t do it. So it’s just lovely to see this. So I’m not sure where we’ll be going next year. Okay. So tell me whereabouts you staying over here. We’re staying in the marina. Okay. Down on Rapid Beach. Uh just here. Yeah. Which is very a good very good position. The problem is we always stayed in the Miramar in um Pa Palenca which is very has got a lot more character I have to say and I do feel this place probably needs a bit of money spent on it. So it needs a bit of a refit over the winter. So some of the sort of fixtures and fittings in the bedroom are a bit sort of down marketish and the bathroom’s small and you know oldfashioned shower and what have you. Okay. Okay. That’s an honest opinion. That’s honest opinion. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. But all in all, um, which resort do you prefer and will you be coming back here as well? Two questions. That is a really difficult The other thing I did notice, we noticed last night we paid a lot more. And I know everybody’s saying that, but we saw it for ourselves that the the bill was a lot more than last year. I’d even say 15 or 20% more than we’ve paid before. And I can see it’s going to be like that tonight. The restaurant that we’ve looked at. Yeah. So, I don’t know. We might even end up going to mainland Spain next year, Alex, which because it’s just got so expensive. So, I don’t know. That’s not good news. That’s not good news for the island at all. Okay. Well, I appreciate your your honest opinion. If I if I could give you free tickets to either Poansa or Portto Soyer, which one would it be? This is a this is a hard choice. That’s really hard, but I think my my heart is over there, I’m afraid, in in Brilliant. Okay. Well, look, Trudy, it’s been lovely for you. But I love it here. It is lovely. It really is lovely. Okay. Well, it’s been an absolute pleasure to meet you. Lovely to meet you, too. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. Thank you so much. Thanks. Bye. And how absolutely lovely it has been to meet Trudy. Now, I have to say as well, in the time that we’ve been talking, look, the sky has pretty much cleared. We’ve got um the blue skies back and we did have quite a chat. And I have to say as well, um, it turns out I’m I’m not the only recognizable face over here in Soya today because apparently Master Chef John Terode is here on holiday with his wife. Is it Lisa Falner? I think. And also Trudy told me as well that she met Chzn Hawks at the airport yesterday as well. Not Palmer airport, but London City Airport as well. So she’s she’s clocking up the the well-known faces. Anyway, look as we come down along along the far side of the port. See a few people down here on the beach. We’re just going to head to the far side of Rep. Just take a very quick look before I head back. And look, this is the hotel where Trudy is staying at with her husband, the Marina Hotel here on the far side of Rep. Just looking over as well. Look, you can see we have a little bit of a police tape. Not quite sure why, but um you’re not allowed to enter the water from here. Maybe it’s because of the storms that we had yesterday. Maybe we had quite a a lot of water running off the mountain. But let’s head on over the bridge. And just to give you a few views of Rep. So you can see it’s pretty much as busy over here on Repic Beach as it is on the far side of Port Soyer where we pretty much started this video. A lot of people out this afternoon. Okay, everyone. That’s just a very quick look at Port Soyer today. And as you can see, it’s still really busy whether with with day trippers or with holiday makers. Now I can’t believe that we are easing our way through September. We’re more or less in the middle of the month. And well, Port Soyer is looking as popular as it does at any other time during the summer, which is really, really good news. But the warning is there and Trudy has given that warning that that price may well be a factor in 2026 as to whether many of the holiday makers that are here at the moment, whether they will be coming back next year. Okay, everyone. I hope you enjoyed this video. If you’re not following us on the Morca Under the Sun Facebook group, do go ahead and join that. Subscribe to the channel if you haven’t done so already. And I’m also going to drop a couple of videos appearing both here and here on YouTube to help you out with your holiday. I will be back here to live stream very soon. But in the meantime, I’ll leave you with a few views of Port Soya this afternoon. So, thanks for watching and I shall see you on the next one. Goodbye for now.

In this video, find out why Port de Soller in Mallorca, Spain, is crowded and expensive. I walk through Soller Port (Port de Soller) to see what it’s like in September.

Plus, I chat to a LOVELY subscriber, Trudy, who tells me why she feels Soller is too expensive, and why she prefers Puerto Pollensa.

  1. We travelled to Soller on Sept 6.We got train from Palma and tram.Great day and tapas in Pirat restaurant on the port.Great value 5 tapas for €19.50.Was so nice The waiter was friendly and not over pushy plus free cava on arrival Highly recommend.👍

  2. Great video, Alex – love Port de Soller. We often ate on lazy Sundays afternoons at El Sabor on the corner near the tram stop for Repic Beach. Great food and wonderful service and underrated IMO compared with some of the more popular restaurants in the port (or at least it was when we lasted visited).

  3. Hi Alex I love your videos but prefer to be there 😊I Love Mallorca especially Palma and usually go 5/6 times a year . We Just stayed 3 nights in the Daina Pollenca 5th Sept .Double room with Breakfast £1150 Flights £350 Car £60 Food eating out £350 £1910 3 nights 😮it is only a question of time before the customer Buckles with the cost not just Mallorca but all popular holiday resorts .

  4. Looks hot in port de soller Alex. Shame that lady thought her hotel room needed a bit of attention to it.. i think hotels should be demolished if they are not up to standard. Hang on, forget that..i think hotels should be preserved and have money spent on them to keep the history and memories alive…-:)

  5. I’ve been to Soller once in September. From Palma on that wooden train, and yes , packed like sardines onto the tram after queuing for ages. On the way back we decided to find a bus stop instead via some long walk on not at all picturesque side streets ( son’s Google navigation) to get back to Palma, With hindsight we should have just driven to Soller instead ..if we could have found parking .

  6. Hi Alex bit busy there ! but it's a wonderful place to visit we had a great time back in May this year , thank you for that bring back memories of earlier this year in Majorca, we stayed in Sou Boulo Can Picafort ! 😎😎👍

  7. Yes I’d did look very busy. What a great honest opinion Trudy gave us, and I think she’s right the pine walk in Pollenca is a better waterfront location. Lovely video. Thanks Alex.
