Monday, September 15 2025 I 10:30 PM I 16 °C (60,8 °F) Welcome to Pützchens Markt 2025! This funfair takes places every year in September in the district of Pützchen in Bonn, Germany! Pützchens Markt is a traditional fair whose origins date back to 1367. The district name “Pützchen” means little fountain in the Rhenisch dialect, that is spoken in this region. It refers to the Adelheidis fountain, which, according to legend, has been located here already since 1003. I’ve only been to this fair once in my life, years ago. I didn’t know people are dressing in traditional Bavarian costumes here. You’ll see more during this walk. Oktoberfest vibes. Imagine you live here. On weekends, the fair is open until 3 a.m. That’s for it now! Thanks for watching! Please don’t forget to like and subscribe! Greetings from Cologne, Germany. Simon

Pützchen’s Market is a traditional fair dating back to 1367. Since the beginning of the 18th century, it has been held starting on the second weekend in September, primarily on the market meadows of Pützchen-Bechlinghoven, now part of Bonn.

Pützchen’s Market originated from the pilgrimage to Adelheid’s Fountain. During a supplication procession on the lands of Vilich Abbey, whose abbess was Adelheid von Vilich, the later canonized woman allegedly plunged her abbess’s staff into the ground and created a spring (known in Rhenish dialect as Pütz or Pützchen). Since Adelheid had also cared for the poor and sick, pilgrims soon after her death made pilgrimages to her grave and the spring, where numerous miracles are said to have occurred.

Since the pilgrims needed to be fed, innkeepers, merchants, and jugglers gathered there, creating a medieval market alongside the pilgrimage, first documented around 1367. Initially, the market was limited to the trade of junk, old clothes (Rhenish as Pluute), and household goods, the Pluutenmarkt, which developed over the centuries, especially since the beginning of the 18th century, into a modern fair.

The fair is one of the largest folk festivals in the Rhineland, a region in Germany with cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn. It takes places every September for five days. The record number of visitors was set in 2018, with around 1.4 million people.
