WALKING TOUR OF ROUEN!
Welcome to Normandy. I’m here in beautiful France. It’s the end of August. I’m here for a few days with my family and we’ve stopped off in Ruan. We got the um shuttle, the shuttle from Folkston to Calala and we’ve driven to Ruan. We’re about halfway to where we’re actually staying in Doville, but we thought let’s stop for a bit of medieval grandeur in Ruan. So, here we are. I’ll take you on a little tour. It’s very exciting and very beautiful. [Music] So, this is the Cathedral Square. This So, this is Ruon Cathedral, famously painted by Monet. It’s very beautiful indeed. Incredible. And this is the square it sits upon. Very lovely. Look at the detail on these buildings. Absolutely stunning. Okay, I’ve got a bit of info for you here, folks. It says here you are at the precise location where Monet painted his cathedral series which followed his haststack and popular series 1891. So Monet stood in this precise location to paint the cathedral. Love a bit of Monet. Beautiful. Let’s walk over here. Yeah. So, we traveled um we drove to Folkston. Got up at just before 5:00 a.m. Got a 7:54 l shuttle. All very smooth. All very fab. Got to France and it was raining torrentially, but the sun is out. We’re in glorious Ruan and I’m having a lovely time. Thanks for coming to join me. Right folks, I’m in France for the next few days, so I will be um kind of videoing as I go. Joanna’s not with me, alas, so I’m afraid no dogs allowed on this holiday. Um so I’ve come with uh my little family and we are exploring Normandy this week. So yeah, come and join me. Already looking very lovely. So Ruon is where Jon of Arc was burnt at the stake and I’m I’m very interested in Jon of Arc. I think she’s a fascinating character from history and I’ve got a lot of time for Jon of Arc. So I’ll go and investigate that. But here’s where we are at the moment. Just outside the cathedral, Cathedral Square. I look I’ve been I’ve been up since before 5:00 a.m. It’s now lunchtime. So I am quite tired. I’m not doing the driving thankfully, but I am being a bit of a navigator on this holiday and all round quiz master and car game enthusiast. So got to keep the fun up in the car. Anyway, let’s keep exploring beautiful Ruan. Looks like there’s some roof works going on up the top there. Still absolutely stunning in here though. Wonderful building. [Music] One Hello again, folks. I’ve just been into the cathedral and I must say it you if you come to Ruan, you must go in. It’s one of the most incredible buildings I’ve ever been in. I am actually desperate for a cup of tea and I see see there’s a salon dete there. So, maybe I’ll see if I can get a cup of Yorkshire. Not sure how lucky I’ll be, but while we walk down there, just have a look at this. Stunning. So, just behind the cathedral, kind of next to the cathedral really, is the Jon of Arc Museum. just in here. I don’t think we’ve got time to go in there today actually, which is a bit upsetting, but perhaps on the way back cuz I am a little bit obsessed with Jonah Bark. Big fan. Big fan. Down this gorgeous road. [Music] Wow, look at this. Gorgeous. I’m just wandering about, but everywhere is amazing here. It’s incredibly beautiful. So, this is a medieval city. I have to say, I’ve been watching Emily in Paris, and I’m getting strong Emily in Paris vibes from these. How completely gorgeous. Someone’s just gone by a skateboard. That’s what the noise was. But look at these apartments. Oh my god, this is so French. I know I’m in France, so why wouldn’t it be French? But it is glorious here. Almost delicious summery day. Aren’t we lucky? I love looking in the shop windows when I’m in France or well wherever I am. And this has got some lovely bits and bobs in some Oh, looks so nice. Like handmade and gorgeous. Even the crisps are lovely. Ciders there. Some wines. Oh, lovely. I’m actually I am actually in love with the with the sign. The opening hours are appealing as well. Lovely. [Music] Hello. Hello. Um, we go on lots of little holidays, go on lots of walks both in London and further a field. And it would be lovely to have you along. Look at this. Is this not the most French thing imaginable? So, it’s a little tea salon with a lovely bike being all French there. Thanks very much. Beautiful in there. Hello. Lovely. Jubbly. Here’s the bulanerie with a big baguette outside. I can’t I cannot get over how French today has turned out. Appreciate that. I drove to France, but this is out of control. Honestly, this is the most incredible place. It’s beautiful. Folks, come to Ruan. You will not be disappointed. It’s absolutely stunning. Okay, it’s time for me to have some lunch now. I’ve made myself a cheese sandwich. Uh, prime sainsbury’s fair. So, I’m not going to indulge in any of these glorious, glorious cafes here in Ruan. I will eat my sandwich because I am on a budget. I’ve just eaten my lunch on the steps here. actually a nice uh sainsbury’s inspired warm cheese roll. But we’re heading down here now and it’s absolutely gorgeous. this gorgeous cafe culture. Obviously, that’s what France is famous for, or one of the reasons France is famous. They do do cafes very well indeed. This outdoor seating, beautiful. Just found this lovely little flower shop just on one of the streets here. It’s gorgeous. All so tasteful. France, stop it. going to have to move here if I’m not careful. I love it so much. It’s beautiful. Everything’s so tasteful. Lovely cafes absolutely everywhere and a bangerie over there. God, the smells here are incredible. Well, it’s lunchtime and there’s so many gorgeous smells coming from the restaurants. Delicious. Stumbled across a little market which looks very fun. Let’s have a little look around. See what we can find. This looks like it’s fish. All sorts of fish here. Oysters and muscles and prawns and lobsters and crabs. Wow. Fruit and veg over here. Look at this. Lovely. Gorgeous. So just here in the marketplace is something very special indeed which I will show you now. Okay. So right here in the marketplace in Ruan is the site where Jon of Arc was burnt at the stake. And this cross marks the spot. What an incredible place. And there is a little church right next to this spot which is just here. Obviously, it’s St. Joan Church. This is an incredible place. History here is unbelievable. Joan of Arc St. Joan. This is the interior of the church where Jon of Arc was burnt. Very beautiful. Once again folks, apologies for my mad hair. I did read that um one of the things to see in Ruan is this beautiful clock. I do need to research why though. Again, I was trying to do a bit of research in the car uh about half past 6 this morning, knowing that we were likely to stop in Ruan on route to Doville. This is very beautiful. It’s got a slight Liberty of London vibe. Gorgeous. So stunning here. Okay, folks. I’ve um I’ve remembered what’s uh is special about this beautiful clock. So, it’s from the 14th century, so it’s quite old and it’s an astronomical clock, which makes it pretty special. It’s also incredibly beautiful. So, there we are. The ruin astronomical clock.
