Monkeys are crazy, savage thieves!!
Join us on a stroll through the sacred monkey forest sanctuary in Ubud, Bali. This has been one of our favourite tourist spots so far in Bali. It was pretty amazing to be walking amongst hundreds of free roaming monkeys, of all ages and sizes. Be careful though, these little creatures are ruthless.
For numerous reasons, cost being the main one, we didn’t get our rabies vaccinations prior to going travelling. Because of this, we were on guard throughout our walk in the forest and didn’t do anything to attract the monkeys, as we wanted to avoid any contact with them. Most of our apprehension was from reading negative reviews online. When we visited, the monkeys were pretty passive and disinterested in the people walking around. We did see a couple people get their bags rifled through, but the only thing that got bit was the chip bags the monkeys stole. If you are planning a trip to Ubud, Bali, the monkey forest is an absolute MUST.
Keep these tips in mind to avoid a monkey attack:
1. Don’t feed the monkeys!
2. Don’t wear anything bright and/or shiny.
3. Lock your bag!
4. If you don’t have a bag for your lock, get one. If you can’t, then don’t put anything important in your bag. As you’re at risk of a little monkey thief taking whatever they please.
5. Monkeys are amazing at pick pocketing.
6. Mind your hats and sunglasses, especially if brightly coloured.
7. Don’t bring snacks to the monkey forest.
8. As cute as the baby monkeys are, don’t get too close, the mothers will become aggressive – naturally.
9. Don’t wear any jewelry unless you’re willing to part with it.
10. Follow the rules posted by the mo key forest staff and have fun!!

After exploring through the forest, we were hot, hungry and exhausted. Right across the street from the monkey forest was a cool tasty popsicle restaurant. The perfect way to cool off and get energized for the scooter ride home.

Enjoy!

The journey begins!

Scotty and I quit our jobs, moved our stuff into storage and left Canada to travel all around Southeast Asia until the funds run out. We’ve always talked of doing something like this, but we decided to take the plunge and really go for it.

We are starting our travels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and staying with our old pal and roommate Sunil. From there, we will be traveling to Bali, Indonesia.

Our goal is to experience as much as we can, get out of our comfort zones, and really live our lives to the fullest.

We plan to share this journey with friends and family and anyone else interested in our journey. The goal is to put out one travel vlog weekly, to share the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Stay tuned and enjoy the ride!!

xoxo
