Exploring Dune du Pilat, France | Europe’s Tallest Sand Dune

Hello, good morning and welcome. I’m currently in France by the Atlantic coast and um since today we have a bit of clouds around, I thought I might take you somewhere um because um it’s not a nice day to stay at the beach. So, we I’m here by the um June dupil which is also known as the grand dune dila is the tallest sand dune uh in Europe. It is located 60 kilometers southwest of Bordo. It is a famous tourist destination and there are over 2 million tourists or over 2 million visitors each year. So, we’re going to be walking on sand now. So, I’ve got to take my shoes off like um nearly everyone else. I took the shoes off and now I’m walking on sand and I’m just following the crowds and there are quite a few people here. Like I’ve mentioned earlier on, it’s um a very popular tourist destination in front of me. I can see already it’s big kind of um a hill going up there. It’s a quite steep walk up. So, I’m going to take it easy. [Music] But you can either walk up the hill here or over there. Just behind me, you have some stairs leading up. And I think I’m going to take the stairs over there. You can see at the top of the dune there are lots of people up there. And from a little bit further away it looks like little arms walking up and across the dunes. So as you have the excuse I’ve got my shoes in my hands. So they might these shoes they might um whenever I lift my hand you might see them as well. So show you already a little bit of the view. So already not even half the way up, you get a nice view. And now let’s see if I can overtake these people here in front of me. I’ve managed to overtake them. And now I’m just walking up and it’s a bit of wind now. It’s a little bit windy and uh it blows all the sun in my face. had to take the cup off. Just flying around now. I’ve reached the top of the AM Sunune and I’m here with a 100 other people. The view is quite um spectacular. [Music] [Music] here in France. I actually stay at the campsite at the moment and um I keep moving around. That’s um I’m going to say about a week at each site. Um um so I use a tent, have some chairs, have a cook as well. And um I’m I’m actually not on my own. I have some people with me. And if you wonder what I used to film these videos now, I used to have a bigger camera. I used to um film with a um Sony um oh I don’t know I can’t even remember what it’s called a Sony FX 700 or something like this and now I use a GoPro. It’s um just to vlog. I think GoPro is more than enough. Um, but should you be interested in some of my um the gear I use camping or filming, um, I have some links in the description below and it’s those are affiliate links. That means I should you buy something, I get paid or I get a small commission um, at no extra costs for you actually. So yes, have a look and see if you can find something you might be interested in. The GoPro I use is a u not the newest model. It’s the um GoPro 10. I think you have now GoPro. You have the 12 or even the 13 already. But I’m one of those people. I don’t believe I have to buy every time a new um gadget or a new camera comes out, I have to get the latest one. So, I keep this one as long as it works. And then I’m going to get the latest model again. um because then the difference in quality is really uh really stands out. So then it’s worth getting a new one. Most people just stay here at the highest point. Um but if we look down this way, you can see you can walk all the way down there and it’s not there are not as many people anymore. In fact, there only a few people now. So, let’s walk down there and see what it looks like from there. One of the reasons why I like to travel, and you can let me know why you like to travel in the comments below. One of the reasons why I like to travel is because um you always get to see new places and you realize that um beautiful places are all over the world. Where I come from or even if I tell people where I come from, they always tell me, “Oh, it’s such a beautiful place. It’s such a nice place.” Uh while you can agree or disagree with this statement, I believe as long as you haven’t seen everything, you actually cannot say which one’s the most beautiful place on earth. We have uh where I come from, we have mountains, we have lakes, you can go skiing, you can go swimming, you can go for a swim. Um we have forest but we also have a lot of monoc culture and it’s um lots of apple trees and um the other thing they cultivate is um vineyards. So it’s grapes, wine grapes. So the area where I come from is actually known for its um wines and apples. I think um if I’m not mistaken, every 10th apple sold in Europe comes from the area where I come from. So maybe those guys behind me, they found it a little bit difficult walking up the hill and so that’s why they stopped there. And those who are kind of a little bit more motivated or even if they have a little bit more stamina, they just keep going. [Music] I don’t know how um well you can hear me. It’s quite windy up here. And uh I just wanted to let you know I’ve nearly made it. It’s just a um I think it’s 200 m 200 m um till I get to the end of the June and um I’ll be walking over there. It’s a little bit difficult walking through sand. Obviously, it’s different to walking on streets or even hiking trails and um your feet have to walk a little bit harder, especially if you keep sinking in and um it’s not sink, it’s not sinking deep. It’s like um those two three cm and but still your feet have to walk a little bit more and it’s um kind of a nice massage as well for your feet. So, let’s head further up there and um see if we get there. This wasn’t the end of the tune. So, it’s um the end just behind there. And um I’m halfway now. I have to wait for my travel companions. They’re the other way further down there. And I think it’s going to take them some time for them to come up here. It’s a um so I’m just going to have to wait and see what we’re going to do. I’m sure one of them wants to go all the way and the other one I think is is about to give up. And so see if we can persuade her to walk with us all the way. Um otherwise, well, we’re just going to have to turn around. But let’s wait and see what they have to say. [Music] I found a spot with a little bit less wind now, so I hope you can hear me better. And um yes, the dunes, they just keep um they keep going all the way up there and it’s um quite a bit of a walk. So, you saw them now. You know what you can visit here and what you can see. We’re going to be walking back and um well, I’m going to film a little bit as well. And so, if you want to come and visit this place and if you want to visit these dunes, then you know now where they are. And it’s um if you want to walk along those dunes, then it’s um kind of a bit of a walk. The other thing is um obviously there at the um highest spot nearly I nearly fell now just behind there that’s where all the people come up. Most people are going to stay there and if you look the other way just behind me now you can see there’s not that many people anymore. It’s a nice and pleasant walk. it’s like a little bit difficult walking through the sand um if you’re not used to it. And um today the weather’s not too nice. So that’s why we’ve chosen to come here. And yeah, it’s it’s a great day out if you’re around this area and um you just want to do something. I’m nearly at the start of the June again or um well we started Hello. I’ve reached the foot of the hill and yes, it’s been quite a nice day out. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] It was nice having you with me and so yes, subscribe, like, share, do whatever you like and I’ll see you next time and Have fun.

Join me on a peaceful day trip to the Dune du Pilat, Europe’s tallest sand dune, located on the Atlantic coast of France.

Although the weather was cloudy, the atmosphere was beautifull and dramatic, adding a unique charm to the landscape.

Watch as we explore the towering dune, enjoy views of the ocean and forest, and soak in the peaceful vibes of this natural wonder.
