We left the craziness of Seminyak and headed for the serenity of Ubud, Bali.

After doing some research, we settled on taking a Bluebird taxi from Seminyak to Ubud. We downloaded the app for ease of finding a reliable driver. To use the app you do need a local phone number. Make sure if you are using a Bluebird taxi that the driver is using a meter. Otherwise you may get into a sticky situation when it comes to paying for your ride.

Our driver arrived shortly after ordering it on the app. Communication was fairly good. He turned on the meter and we were on our way to Ubud.

Ubud is located roughly 30km north of Seminyak. However, in Bali traffic, 30km means a different thing than back home in Canada. It took us 1 hour 45 minutes to travel 30km. I knew we’d be surrounded by traffic and that it may be a slow ride, but I had no idea what I was really in for.

The car never stopped stop lurching. Forward, back, forward, back. Non. Stop. Plus, the vehicle was manual transmission (I drive manual transmission back home, but here this extra lurch was not helping my situation). We had not even been driving for 5 minutes when I decided to dig in my bag for a puke bag and some Gravol (anti-nausea medication).

I guess I had made the mistake of looking out the side window for one minute too long. There was really no turning back after that. I closed my eyes and put my head between my knees. It was all I could do to keep myself from tossing my cookies, and I’m not one to get carsick. Like ever. Even as a kid, I never had a problem with this. Knowing we had at least an hour and a half left of the drive, I prayed the Gravol would work it’s magic and at least help me pass out. I remained on the edge of puking the entire drive. It was the worse.

At the start of the video, I voiced being concerned about a chocolate safari … that may have been better than the feelings I was having. Buttttt, we made it through to Ubud, and luckily, I managed not to vomit. With the help of ginger chews, Gravol and meditation, I kept it together.

Phew! We made it to Ubud! After napping off the Gravol and rough seas, we had some food and ventured out for our favourite activity: grocery shopping.

Enjoy!

The journey begins!

Scotty and I quit our jobs, moved our stuff into storage and left Canada to travel all around Southeast Asia until the funds run out. We’ve always talked of doing something like this, but we decided to take the plunge and really go for it.

We are starting our travels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and staying with our old pal and roommate Sunil. From there, we will be traveling to Bali, Indonesia.

Our goal is to experience as much as we can, get out of our comfort zones, and really live our lives to the fullest.

We plan to share this journey with friends and family and anyone else interested in our journey. The goal is to put out one travel vlog weekly, to share the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Stay tuned and enjoy the ride!!
