Riverside Camping in France | Huttopia Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne Campsite Tour & Review
Hi everybody, I’m JT. Welcome to another video from me here at Camper Van Journey. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And in this video, I just wanted to give you a quick tour of the campsite we’ve been staying at here in Bolia Sur Doy. And what a cracking site it is. So, the campsite is suitable for most forms of camping. I think the largest motor homes they can take is up to uh around about uh 6 and 1 half 7 m. But we’ve got yurt style tents, family tents, trailer tents, caravans, small tents, and obviously motor homes the same size as ours. There’s a range of pitches available to choose from when you’re booking which have electric hookup. And then for a premium, you can pay extra to have a riverside pitch. All of the pitches are spread nicely amongst the trees, so you get a really nice atmosphere. It doesn’t at any point feel busy or crowded, although it’s been fully booked whilst we’ve been here. And this is a good size pitch for a 7 m size motor home. If you fancy staying in something slightly different to attent, there’s the Canadian style trap lodges available. And these little wooden, going to call them huts. The lavry washing machine area. Three big washing machines. You can buy the tokens from reception and then most people will then hang their washing on a line between the trees. So, there’s a lovely outdoor cafe area where you can buy drinks from the bar, ice creams, order your bread from the local bakery, and a really nice, and it has to be said, very popular, pool. This is probably one of the only downsides of the campsite is that the the pool does get very very popular, especially on a nice sunny day. So, a lot of the Hootopia sites we’ve stayed at have got tool pools, but with a a pool that’s often larger than this one. And uh as such, it can cope a bit more with the volume of people that want to use it. But, uh nonetheless, it’s a really nice facility. Now, if you hadn’t heard already, you can now buy a camper van journey sticker. So, if you fancy one of these, drop me an email at [email protected] and I’ll let you know how you can buy one. Looks pretty good on the van. I think sites are all about family and family camping. So, there’s always plenty to do for all ages. So, we’ve got a activity climbing frame behind us, volleyball court, pingpong. Believe it or not, there’s around 200 pitches if you include all of the lodges, the tent pitches, and the trapper tents. But you can see from the map itself, the site is almost like an island in the river. So the main river is on the side where we are overlooking and then there’s a little tributary. Now one thing to be wary of is uh the approach to the campsite is through some quite narrow lanes through Bolia. The the town is very old. There’s lots of stone buildings, lots of narrow uh routes. If you follow the designated route in, you will be fine. Uh but if you deviate from that, there’s some very narrow little uh roads between the buildings with uh big stone walls that uh could cause you a problem if you meet something coming the other way. But the other thing to consider is the access. There’s this small bridge that you have to go under. Uh it’s a 3 m height bridge, so if your vehicle is higher than 3 m, you’re not going to get in. Now, we’re close to 3 meters and got in without problem, but uh just bear that in mind if you’re in a larger motor home. There’s two or three toilet and wash blocks located around the campsite. And as usual, these are very nicely laid out, well looked after, and very clean as family washrooms, uh disabled access, and plenty of toilets for all. And as a French campsite, one thing to bear in mind is that toilet paper is provided. So you don’t have to bring your own. So one little thing to bear in mind if you run on solar is the tree coverage here is quite thick. So even on a sunny day as we’ve had over the last couple of days we’ve been staying here, your solar panel is not going to get as much sunlight as if you were parked out in the open. But on a hot sunny day, as it can be down here in this part of France, well into the 30 degrees, you’d definitely be welcome of the shade that the trees provide. And this is probably the piesta resistance of the campsite being right next to the river door. Now, we paid extra to have a riverside pitch. It’s an option that you can choose when you’re booking on the website and it came in um at around about €50 per night. If you didn’t have a Riverside pitch, then it’s going to be closer to the €40 per night for us as a a family of three staying here. So, it’s certainly at the pricier end of the campsites you can stay at whilst you’re touring around France, but uh or we think that it’s well worth the extra, especially as a little treat every now and again. So, we’ve really really enjoyed our stay here at Camping Hootopia Bouia Sur Doy. It’s a great place to come if you are a family with loads to do in the area. Whilst we’ve only stayed here for a couple of nights, you could quite easily spend two weeks here and still not discovered everything to do. There’s lots of opportunities to go cycling, lots of interesting places to see such as Rockador, the Palarak Caves. The local town itself is very interesting as well, but I’m sure it’s one that we’ll come back and visit another time. Now, this video is not sponsored by Hootopia at all, but if you do want to find out more information, I’ll put a link to their website in the description below. Just check it out. So Who are Campervan Journey?
We are JT, Harry, Claire, Sam and Ben, oh and Hunny the Dog. We discovered campervanning in 2015 when we bought our first Volkswagen T5 Combo after seeing many at our favourite campsites. We were staying with our tent, and dreaming that one day we would have our own Campervan. After much research, we bought and converted our own T5 Kombi to suit our requirements, check out the video on the channel. We soon discovered that owning a Campervan is a way of life and it is not just about amazing trips round Europe, it’s as much about great days out and family time…
We have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places with our van, many of which we know we wouldn’t have seen if we had not owned it. They instil a sense of adventure and where shall we go into your life.
After 3 years with the T5, we upgraded to a Volkswagen T6 California Beach, and then after another 5 years we upgraded to our current van, our Hymer Free S 600. We continue to enjoy travelling and visiting some amazing places. You can check out our latest videos and adventures here on the channel !
Please remember and hit SUBSCRIBE! if this is your thing ! We try to make videos to share the good and bad of where we have been and some tips and tricks that we have learnt along the way, as well as reviews of some of the things we have bought to use whilst camping and places we have visited and stayed.
Remember, We believe that buying a Campervan was one of the best things we have ever done !!!
