We Went on a Day Trip to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast

We spent the day exploring the stunning Amafi coast and wow, it was absolutely magical. From jaw-dropping views and colorful cliffside towns to some very delicious food, every moment was like a dream. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we ended it with an unforgettable visit to the ancient ruins of Pompei. And it was amazing. Trust me, this is one adventure you don’t want to miss. So come along with us. Let’s soak in the beauty, the history, and the flavors of this unforgettable day in Italy. [Music] Welcome to the Sarrento coastline and the Amafi coastline. and it is stunning. Today, our ship docked in Naples and we are taking a day trip for the entire day. We are so excited. It is beautiful. It’s our first time here. So, come with us as we enjoy these beautiful coastlines and towns all along the way. [Music] And the coastline’s pretty good, too. Yeah. So, the sand here is volcanic sand, which means it’s very dark, if not black. Yeah. Different than what we’re used to. Very different. But the good part about it is that dark sand attracts the sun, which warms the water. So that even in the winter, the water right along the shore is warm. So you can you can go right in and enjoy the warmth. [Music] [Music] There’s a lot of very cute shopping available in Sarrento and all these alleyways. I didn’t realize it. So, our guide said, “Make sure you walk down the alleyways and we are. I’ve seen like so many dresses that are so cute.” You like the blue Christmas tree ornament for our tree. We don’t get enough little souvenirs. And this is a pretty glass one. [Music] It’s [Music] a lemon slushie present here. All right. Let’s see. Lemon slushie. Good. It’s very good. You’re going to like it. Tart. It’s tart, but it’s good. Wow. It’s very lemony. [Music] Yeah, this is gorgeous. So, it’s part of our tour today. lunch here at I don’t even know the name of the restaurant. He never even told us the name. But this has been a spectacular day. Yeah, the Amafi Coast, the Sto Coast is absolutely gorgeous. And now we’re going to have a beautiful meal with this beautiful view. And we are eating at Oh, there we go. The Constantino. I think I’ve seen so many postcards and things with this picture on it, but it doesn’t do it justice. And when you’re sitting here looking out a window perched high upon a rock, which is probably where we are. Yeah. And just looking over the Mediterranean and the Yafi coast and it’s stunning. I can’t believe we’re here. Like everything about this trip has been great and Rome was great and things like that, but this has been just a fantastic day so far. I’m so glad we did this. I’m sure there are people who live here and who are completely numb to all this. Well, somebody said it the other day when we were on a tour that they take it for granted. Yeah. Yeah. And it’s I could see that it would be easy, but I mean, I’m looking at this and it’s an amazing feat of engineering for some of these things, these houses that are on the cliff perched on the edge and hanging out over the edge of these cliffs. And we ordered a pizza and Mark got a beer and I got Coke Zero when in Rome as they say. It tastes pretty good too. It’s nice and light. And we just kept it basic with a pizza to share. And we’re going to enjoy this view. There’s a beautiful breeze coming in the window. There is. Yep. Great day so far. Highly recommend. [Music] Okay, so we’re about to check out Pompei. It was a choice we made for today. We really wanted to see it. is about €22 per person for Pompei Plus, which basically means we get to see the whole shoot and match. Yep. A whole shoot and match. So, we have a map. We’re doing this on our own. Our guy who dropped us off here said it probably will take us about an hour and a half to two hours to walk through. We’ll see. It’s hot. We’ll see how long we last, but we’ve got a map. Mark’s good at maps, so we’re going to check it out. Come along with us as we check out Pompei. I think one thing to remember is really you’re walking through a city. Yeah. So we have a map and it’s huge and and that’s what we’re walking through the city of Pompei. So it’s as big as a town or a city was at that time. It was a city of how many people? 20,000 people. Yeah. 20,000. So let’s go. [Music] This is the amphitheater. And Pink Floyd recorded here because it’s good acoustics. [Music] with Mount Vuvius right behind me. [Music] So, this area we’re walking into is some was somebody’s whole apartment complex. It seems like there’s many there’s apartments in here for different families, but it was one complex in a neighborhood. Really? So, this is somebody’s apartment in the complex. See? Yeah, this is an apartment on the wall. Yeah. Wow. They lived here in this space. [Music] So this area here where the house that octopus owned really shows how water was used and how much of a symbol of life it was. [Music] I mean, the drawings on the wall are incredible. Yeah. That they unearthed all of this. Yeah. And I’m not sure if any of it was restored or not, but amazing to think about that. How many people were just obliterated by one volcano in seconds or minutes? [Music] This is a kitchen. They look like two circles. This is part of the home we’ve been looking in. And the garden’s right outside, which kind of makes sense. Right off the kitchen. Just amazing that they all just fell over from the heat and kind of curled up in a ball. Like it probably happened so fast. [Music] It’s the bats. Stadium bats. [Music] We’ll call this a main street. It’s actually called the Via de albadanzo. Abadanzo. Abundance. This is kind of like abundance. Street of abundance. Oh, all right. [Music] These may have been little shops. [Music] I’m going to guess that this is like the center of town, town square. I just heard a tour guide say this is the heart of the city. So it’s like the city center. It’s a square. So that might have been all shops that kind of lead up to this. Yeah. We had such an amazing time walking through Pompei. There is so much to see and honestly it can feel a little overwhelming. One lesson we learned is that next time we would definitely use a tour guide. Exploring on our own took us about 2 hours, which is about the same a tour guide would take, but with a guide, you’d get so much more insight into the history and stories behind what you’re seeing. So, that’s something that we would definitely recommend if you’re planning a visit. We also had a fantastic time exploring Sarrento and the Amafi coast. Since this was just a one-day excursion from a cruise ship, we couldn’t see everything we wanted to, but we really got a beautiful taste of it. Between the breathtaking views, the charm of the towns, and the rich history, it’s honestly an experience we’ll never forget. Thank you so much for coming along with us today. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any of our next adventure. [Music]
