Milos Travel Guide – Best towns to stay, Best beaches and Driving around Milos Greece
[Music] Milos is one of the most popular Greek islands known for its beautiful beaches and stunning landscapes which makes it an ideal island vacation. [Music] In this video, we will show you the best spots to stay and also ranking of the 11 best beaches in Milos. Finally, we’ll share insights about driving and getting around the island. [Music] Choosing the best spot to stay in Milos depends on your preference. Our first recommendation is Adamas, the port town and capital of Milos. You can easily access fairies and public buses, visit the Milos mining museum, or simply relax at a local beach. Next option is Bolognia located in the northeastern coast which offers a peaceful retreat in one of many traditional and beachfront accommodations. [Music] Number three is Placa. This town offers traditional accommodations in a hilltop village with scenic viewpoints. You can hike up to the Venetian Castle for panoramic views of Milos and the surrounding islands or watch sunset from Pinagia Coriaticia Church. Although it’s not beachside, Placa has by far the most things to see and do that you can visit without a car. Also from Placa, you can hike down the hill to KMA, which is number four on our list, and visit the catacombs of Milos, one of the most significant historical Christian burial sites in Greece. Nearby is also the ancient Roman theater, which offers spectacular sea views. Each of these sites are also walking distance from KLMa. [Music] Option number four is Kla, a picturesque fishing village famous for its colorful Serata houses which are once used by fishermen to store their boats. It’s a small village for those who want a peaceful and private stay. [Music] If you want to still do some activities, you can easily get transport to explore Pla. You can find the full guide including things to do in each town and recommended stays in the link in the description. Your final option is a quiet beachfront stay in a boutique hotel that are scattered along the many picturesque beaches around the island such as Al Logandra and Feropotamus Beach. And that also brings us to the next part of this video. [Music] Did you know that Milos has more than 70 beaches? You can explore moonlike shores, hidden coes, and sunny caves with crystal clearar turquoise waters. [Music] Here are the top beaches you shouldn’t miss. [Music] First, Sakaniko beach. Many travelers visit Milos just to explore the otherworldly beauty of Sakaniko. Its smooth white volcanic rocks sculpted by the wind and waves create a stunning lunar landscape. [Music] The contrast of the white rocks and the deep blue of the Aian sea is simply unmatched. The beach itself is small, but the photogenic location alone is the top reason to visit Milos. Check out our full blog post on Sierra Nikico Beach so you will come prepared and don’t miss any special spots such as the shipwreck to the right and the cliff diving to the left. Next is Ferotamus Beach and it is one of our favorite pictures spots. It is famous for its turquoise waters and the traditional serumata or boat houses carved into the rocks along the shore. The crystal clear water and the backdrop of the mountainous landscape create a postcard perfect scene. [Music] Driving east of the island, you will reach Algo Mandra Beach, which has a long stretch of sand as well as a smaller beach on the right side, shaded by a cave, creating a pretty cool and unique swimming spot. [Music] Further east, you can see Papa Fragus Caves with dramatic lifts and crystal clear waters. There’s a small sandy beach that can be reached from a short walk from the parking space by the boat. It’s not exactly a beach to swim and relax. Its appeal is cliff diving and exploring the ocean caves. Located on the south of Milos is a long stretch of sandy beach with multicolored volcanic cliffs. Furla offers a spectacular backdrop and a relaxing vibe. It even has a bus stop that can take you right here. From Fury Placa, you can drive further west. The drive is challenging as you will be driving near cliffs with possible animal crossing. After a halfhour drive, you can reach Herontas Beach. This sandy beach has dark gray volcanic sand and the natural arch that frames part of the beach is a particularly striking feature. Another beach in the south is Provotas Beach with golden sand and calm shallow water. It’s an excellent choice for families and anyone seeking a relaxing beach day. It’s likely the most accessible beach in the southern part of Milos. For the full list, make sure to check out our link in the description as we rank the 11 best beaches in Milos. [Music] And if you reached this part of this video, you’re probably wondering, is it necessary or even safe to drive around Milas? Here are our thoughts. In terms of difficulty or safety, driving in MAS can be tricky with narrow, windy roads and cars randomly parked causing single lane traffic. The southern part of the island is the biggest challenge with unpaved roads and blind turns along the cliff side. But unless you’re beach hopping in the south, this part of the island can be avoided as none of the major towns are here. Do you even need a car in Milos? This also depends on how you want to spend your vacation. If you stay in Adamas or Placa, you can take a bus to the other main towns as well as Serakaniko Beach or even a boat tour to KFikico. However, if you want to do a little more beach hopping and island exploring without being constrained by public transit, then we would recommend a car. ATV rentals are also an option, but we would not recommend them just due to the higher risk of injuries and accidents. [Music] We did not have a lot of clips, but we did enjoy the food in Milos. Common Greek food we tried includes girro, sublaki, authentic Greek salad, horyatiki, and cuttlefish with rysotto. More Greek dishes for you to try in the link in the description. And that is it guys. We hope you like this video and this helps you with planning your trip. We hope you have the best time in Milos. Comment your questions below or don’t hesitate to send us a message. See you in the next video. [Music]
