Let’s Walk Hvar Together | Croatia’s Sunniest Island
✨ Welcome to this walking tour of Hvar Island, one of the most stunning destinations in Croatia and the Adriatic Sea! In this video, we take you on a journey that begins right at the harbour of Hvar Town, where boats, ferries, and yachts arrive, giving the waterfront its lively Mediterranean atmosphere. From here, instead of going directly to the famous Fortica (Spanish Fortress) above the town, we take a more adventurous path toward the Napoleon Fortress (Fort Napoljun), located higher up on the hill.
🌿 Along the way, we wander through forested paths, even getting slightly off track, surrounded by pine trees and views opening up occasionally towards the coastline. After finding our way again, we continue the hike and eventually reach the Napoleon Fortress, built in the 19th century during the French occupation of Dalmatia. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Hvar Town, the Pakleni Islands, and the endless blue of the Adriatic Sea.
🏛 After the fortress, we make our way back down to explore the charming Old Town of Hvar. Strolling through the narrow stone streets, you’ll see Venetian-style buildings, historic squares, and the unique charm that makes Hvar one of Croatia’s most visited islands. Highlights include:
St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Katedrala sv. Stjepana), standing proudly at the main square, Trg sv. Stjepana, with its beautiful bell tower.
The Arsenal and Hvar Theatre, one of the oldest public theatres in Europe (dating back to 1612).
The cobblestone alleys lined with local shops, cafés, and traditional stone houses.
⛪ From the town centre, we continue our walk along the seaside promenade, passing by the Franciscan Monastery of Our Lady of Grace (Franjevački samostan), a peaceful historic spot with its cloister and museum treasures. The gentle sounds of the sea, boats swaying in the harbour, and the warm sun add to the Mediterranean vibe.
🌊 We then leave the busy centre behind and follow coastal paths towards more remote beaches near Hvar Town and around Forest Park Marjan. Here, the scenery shifts to rocky coves, turquoise waters, and quiet spots where you can take in the beauty of the Dalmatian coast without the crowds.
