Britney is a magical peninsula in western France bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. With 2,800 km of rugged coastlines, Celtic legends, unique traditions, and unforgettable food, it truly stole my heart. The secret walled city, Concarno is a medieval fortress town floating on the water. Enclosed by 14th century ramparts and entered by a drawbridge, it feels straight out of a fairy tale. I loved walking its cobblestone streets at sunrise when the granite houses glow golden. Pro tip, arrive around 8:00 a.m. before the crowds. Conquerno is also France’s third fishing port. Watch the afternoon fish auction for a glimpse of longestines and tuna. And don’t miss a caramel crepe at Shea Margo, a family cre for three generations. [Music] Number nine, van. History on the harbor van, often called the Breton Venice, is full of medieval charm with colorful half-timbered houses and gallow roan ramparts. I loved wandering the old streets and the harbor along the Gulf of Morbahan, one of the world’s most beautiful bays with 365 islands according to legend. Fun fact, Vans was once the capital of Britany. In the evening, the lively terraces and gardens by the port make it the perfect spot to relax after exploring. Number [Music] eight, Quimper. Oldtown charm. Quimper’s St. Corantine Cathedral has two 76 m spires and a fascinating detail. The choir is slightly tilted to represent Christ’s head on the cross. The old town is stunning with flowerined keys, stone bridges, and colorful half-timbered houses. I love the Saturday market where I tasted hot quinettes, cider, and the iconic Gallet Sos. My fun discovery, the Henry at Quimper pottery workshops are said to be haunted by little Pierre, an apprentice from the 18th century. [Music] Number seven, Brcelon Forest, Land of Legends. This is the mythical home of Merlin and the Knights of the Round Table. I visited Comper Castle, linked to the Lady of the Lake, who gave King Arthur Excalibur. Walking to the magical Barington Fountain, I felt the mystical atmosphere. Legend says its water could summon storms. For the best experience, join a storytelling tour at sunset. Listening to Arththeran legends beneath ancient oaks was absolutely unforgettable. [Music] Number six, Belly Lair, the beautiful island. The ferry crossing already feels special. You might even see dolphins. Belil, the largest Breton Island inspired painters like Monae. At Pu de Pulan, windswept cliffs surround the villa of actress Sarah Burnernhard, who called it a little paradise. The port of Sozon with pastel houses felt like an Irish fishing village. Renting an electric bike, I explored hidden coes, turquoise waters, and the long sandy beach of Grand Sables. True island bliss. [Music] [Music] Number five, Latrin Serare Sailor’s Haven. This port is world famous for sailing races like the route durum. I visited the giant racing trimmers that can reach 70 km per hour. The lively docks smell of salt and resin with skippers preparing their boats. Just nearby, peaceful beaches like Curillan are perfect for swimming. At low tide, I even walked to Steuhan Island for a picnic like reaching the edge of the world. [Music] Number [Music] four, Dan. A medieval treasure. Dan, perched above the Rance River, has the longest preserved ramparts in Britany, 2.7 km. Walking down the cobbled Jerswell Street lined with artisan shops was magical. The castle, the port, and the sunset views from the walls transported me to another time. If you can come during the Ramparts Festival, the whole city turns into a medieval fair with nights, parades, and music. [Music] Number three, Carac, Stones of Mystery. Carac is the world’s largest megalithic site with over 3,000 standing stones dating back 6,000 years. The most fascinating is the Broken Great Men here, 20 m long and 300 tons, once the tallest stone ever raised by humans. I joined a nighttime torch lit tour. Hearing theories about astronomy, rituals, or even aliens under the stars made the site feel truly mystical. Climb the St. Michelle Tumulus nearby for panoramic views and ancient chills. [Music] Number two, the pink granite coast. Between Perosk and Tastelle, the coast is lined with giant pink granite rocks shaped like castles, turtles, or even Napoleon’s hat. My favorite moment was watching July 14th. Fireworks reflect on the pink cliffs and sea. A breathtaking spectacle. At low tide, I walked to Costa Ray Castle on its private island, timing the tides carefully. And at sunrise, the customs officer’s path revealed rocks glowing candy pink. Pure magic. [Music] Number one, San Malo, Corsair City. The jewel of Britany. Enclosed by massive ramparts, St. Malo has a dramatic history of corsairs, storms, and battles. Walking the entire rampart circuit at sunset with views over the sea and islands was unforgettable. At low tide, I reached Grand Bay Island, where writer Shadow Bion rests facing the ocean. I also witnessed Europe’s highest tides here, the sea rising 13 m in hours. Don’t miss tasting butter galletes with Bordier’s famous seaweed butter. [Music] [Music] bonus one. Sangustan, a hidden harbor where Benjamin Franklin landed in 1776. Its cobbled keys, old half-timbered houses, and seafood platters made it a delightful surprise. [Music] [Music] Bonus 2, the Customs Officer’s Path, GR34. This 1,800 km trail circles Britney’s coastline, revealing lighouses, hidden beaches, and ancient ruins. Each step uncovers a new secret.
