The Top of Germany #zugspitze

come with us to the Zoo Spitzet on the top of Germany. So the cog wheel train from uh Garmish does not leave from the main train station. It’s so it’s like a completely separate train station, but you just buy your tickets, scan on, and then the train starts at 8:15 and goes every single hour. A roundtrip ticket costs €75 and includes the cog wheel train. Or if you would rather take the big cable car from Lake Ibsy up, that is also included. The entire journey takes an hour and 15 minutes with a few stops between Garmish and the Tsugitz. The cog wheel train was completed in 1926 and goes through a 700 meter tunnel. But this is not the summit. There’s one more cable car that needs to be taken. Once you get off of the cog wheel train, you then jump on the glacier bon, which is the cable car that gets you to the summit. The summit cable car was completed in 1964 and finally connected the Austrian side with the German side. Once at the summit, there’s actually a really cool museum that gives a lot of the history of both the cog wheel train, the old hotel that used to be there, as well as the history of the cable cars. Welcome to the summit. It’s such a beautiful view. What do you think? We were cold, so we went into the Moonchin House and had ourselves a beer and some pea soup with sausage. When we went back outside, we did finally get a little bit of a glimpse of the Golden Cross. Really hoping the clouds clear. They’re supposed to clear by 1:00 and it’s like 12:15. It’s like 1° C, which I think is like 36°. This is still our view. Supposed to be sunny the next 3 days. Thankfully, there is another restaurant, so we enjoyed some food and another beer before heading over to the Austria side. We’re in Austria. Can you tell? Austria, babe. It’s so pretty behind us. We waited it out as long as we could, but we decided to make our descent down because the clouds actually never did clear. But this was our view as we descended to Lake Ipsy. Even though we never got the view from the top, the views from Lake Ipsy are really spectacular. And we still had a wonderful

Our day adventuring to the top of Germany with a round trip ticket for the Zugspitze.

The suggested route is:
1- cogwheel train from Garmisch to Zugspitzeplatt
2- take the short Gletscherbahn cable car to the summit
3- For the descent, take the Cable car Zugspitze down to Lake Eibsee
4- honback on the cogwheel train to head back into Garmisch

It‘s €75 and even with a crappy view at the top we still had a great day. I preloaded online but in hindsight I should have waited until we knew the weather. But either way it was raining for most of the morning in the valley so our plans would have been weird anyways!

Stay tuned for more Garmisch and European adventures and please mind my pronunciation. German is really difficult for me and my pronunciation isn’t quite right on many German words. I’m learning and trying my best.
