Inside Drachenburg Castle 🏰 The Fairytale Gem of Germany | Drachenfels, Bonn
Forget everything you thought you knew about German castles, the real magic, the true history, and the most captivating experiences. Lie beyond the famous Dhanfells. Join me as we uncover the astonishing hidden gems that will redefine your perception of German architecture and history. Our [Music] [Music] journey begins with the Draenfell’s Bond. It is Germany’s oldest mountain railway. First opened in 1883, [Music] for almost 1 and a half centuries, this train has carried visitors up the hillside, slowly climbing through forests and vineyards towards a place of history, legends, and dreams. And then as the train turns, it appears Schllo Draenberg, a fairy tale castle on the slopes of the Ry Valley. built in just 2 years between 1882 and 1884 by Stefan Vonsarter, a banker who made his fortune in Paris and was later raised to nobility. Yet he never lived here. This was not a home. It was a monument to ambition. [Music] From the outside, Draenberg seems older than it is. Neo Gothic towers. Renaissance details. It was built to look like a medieval fortress. [Music] A dream of the past cast in stone. [Music] [Music] Every line of the castle tells a story of romance and power. [Music] [Music] But inside, fantasy meets modernity. Behind the historic back odds, Drakenberg hides the innovations of its age. Gas lamps, central heating, steel structures. Every room has its own voice. Stained glass glowing with color. Carved wood whispering of craftsmanship. [Music] The great staircase rises with vast paintings, emperors, heroes, legends of German history. [Music] And the private chambers frozen in time as if their owner might return at any moment. But the fate of Draenberg was not as majestic as its design. After Sarter’s death, it passed from one owner to another. Once open to the public, then scarred by war, neglect, abandonment. At one point, it was close to ruin. a forgotten monument on the hillside. Yet, Draenberg rose again, restored, saved from decay. Its towers shine once more, and its halls welcome visitors. Today, this castle is more than stone and glass. It is a dream rescued from the past. If you enjoyed this journey, I would love to hear your thoughts.
