Rate my corner breakfast edition in Hydra, Greece !
Welcome to Rate My Corner Breakfast Edition on Idra Greece. So, here we are. Saturday morning. That’s right. Saturday morning. We’re here at a cool corner called Tasos. That’s the name of the restaurant. And I think Tacos might mean cups. I think you’re right. Maybe. So we we are across the walkway from the port. So behind us are all the boats, fishing boats, and we’ll show you day trip boats and all sorts of boats. And we are sitting here at a breakfast spot. We just ordered our two Greek coffees. We actually haven’t had a This is our first time out for breakfast, right? We’ve been here about six or seven nights already. This is our We’ve just had breakfast and coffee at home. So, it’s our first coffee that we’ve ordered. And we ordered Greek coffees and I ordered toast with cheese and John ordered an omelette. So, we’ll tell you about the food when it gets here. So, the name of the establishment, the restaurant is Tasos, which we think means cups. And we’re going to rate based on four criteria. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Are you So, this is the second time that this happens to us. We don’t realize that our microphones have died. We’d only filmed maybe a total of 10 minutes before we sat down here. So, we obviously need to get better microphones. But anyway, here’s my grilled cheese sandwich. Here’s the Greek coffee and John’s omelette. And we didn’t realize that Greek coffee is very strong and it’s got all of the grounds in the cup so you don’t stir. They just kind of fall to the bottom and you don’t really add sugar and milk. We actually asked for sugar and milk and the waiter looked at us like what? And he never brought it to us. So we learned something new today. and our friends from Lufansa came to say goodbye. It was their morning to catch their ferry and they’re heading back to Athens and the airport and heading back to Frankfurt, Germany. Here I am talking about my grilled cheese sandwich. It’s delicious. It was only €2.50 and it was really good. And then John’s omelette had cheese and olives and stuff in it. And his omelette was about €8. So here’s something else that we learned about the Greek coffee. Our friends told us this, that it’s a long tradition with the Greek coffee. Once you finish drinking it and you’re left with these thick grounds, and they’re not grounds like we have in the US. It’s more like a slimy gooey grounds. And anyway, if you take the cup and you flip it around and let the grounds cover the sides of the cup and then you turn it over, there are actually ladies that will read the sides of the cup just like they read like tea leaves. And so we were just messing around here and we went ahead and flipped the cup over and we let it sit there for a while and we were going to then read the interpret the sides of the cup. So here we go. We flip the cup over and you look at the sides and I immediately saw waterfall. And so the waterfall means we’re gonna have a windfall of lots of cash and money. And then our friend across the way, I wish you could have heard her with her beautiful, is it German accent or Icelandic accent or both? Both. Um, then she decided to start reading the sides of the cup and I think she said she saw the top of Mount Fuji, right? In Japan, right? And that means that we’re going to go there and sand. And the sand, which means we’ll have lots of beaches in our future. And I don’t remember and then Yes. And then the waterfall. So that was a lot of fun. So this is the location of our breakfast spot right here by the port. All the boats. That’s the background. And then our breakfast place is right here. There’s Emily. This is Tasos. You can see the location. We’re right here on the corner. Lots of people around us. It’s a great location. It’s a great location. Really, really, really cool. So, we have four criteria for Rate My Corner. One is the establishment, the drinks, the food, etc. Another one is the location. What’s going on around us? Number three is people and pets watching factor. Are there interesting people walking by? And then the fourth criteria is noise. Vehicles, music, people. Is it is it too noisy? Is it just right? Is it fun? So those are our criteria. So number one is the Yes, we have notes. Yeah, we do. Yeah, remember four things. The establishment and the drinks and the food, right? the name. Yeah. So, this is Tasos. We are in Idra and it’s I guess it’s a breakfast, lunch, and dinner place and drinks and it’s a great spot. I ordered a basically a grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast. John had an omelette. It was very good. Now, we both had Greek coffee. It’s the first Greek coffee. Most of you probably know what that means. It’s got all the grounds at the bottom anyway. Yes, it was good, but it was very good. We didn’t understand what it was. Probably won’t order it again, but it was good. It was good. So, and the food was good. Mine was basic. Yep. Oh, and then we ordered at the end, we ordered some freshsqueezed orange juice, which was delicious. And uh so I think in general the food, the drinks, the coffee, everything was good. I gave it a 10. I do too. It’s a really great menu, lots of good choices. Really enjoyed it. Number two is the location. What’s going on around us? Well, you just saw where we are. We’re right in front of the marina, all the beautiful boats. We can see the cliffsides with all the beautiful houses. It really is a stunning spot. It’s the location is just perfect. I’m going to give it a 10. Me, too. I’ll give it a good 10. Uh people and pets watching factor. Well, right off the bat, this is a 10 because there’s tons of people. It’s the marina. Yeah, there’s lots of people walking around and there’s cats. Very few dogs on this island. Yeah. But there’s cats. There’s um people, beautiful people with beautiful clothes on and dresses and it’s very very special. And all the action on the port with all the boats, everything. It’s really really interesting. I give the people watching factor a 10. I give it a 10. Also noise, vehicles, music, people. I don’t really hear any music. No, not right now. We have a church bells, clock tower bells right above us. Once an hour and once an hour, half hour. That sounds so cool every time. You can hear there’s hundreds and hundreds of people around us. You can hear the chatter. Yeah, it’s not too crazy, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s really nice. There’s no vehicles here. Actually, there was one service vehicle that drove by. Right. That’s one. Yep. But there’s no motorized vehicles here. Not even bicycles. So there’s no noise. The only noise we might hear is the click clack of the horses and the donkeys. Right. That’s really nice. I really like that. We can hear it right at our from our from our place. And we don’t hear anybody playing any music right now. No, that’ll be later probably. Yeah. So I give uh this rating a 10. It’s perfect. I also give it a 10. You can’t beat it. It’s just it’s exactly what you want to see in here. So, pretty much we give this tasos a 10. A 10. Overall, it’s a perfect 10. It’s a perfect location. It really is special here. I can’t wait to come back and experience more. [Music] Thanks for watching. Right. My corner IDRA edition. There’s the church bells. I think it’s I think it’s noon. Is it 12:00 noon? It is. Oh boy. [Music] [Music] Okay. [Music] [Music] I like it.
We’re back with another rate my corner this time with a Greek island twist in Hydra Greece. We swapped cocktails for Greek coffee and rated our morning corner spot over breakfast. We love our slow travel in Greece, most tourists only visit Hydra for a day trip or a couple of days, we stayed 10 days! And it would have been longer but we really do want to visit a few other Greek Islands!
Here’s how it scored on our four corner criteria
1-the establishment the name, the food, the drinks
2. the location the setting and what’s happening around us
3. the people and pets watching
4. the noise, factor music conversations and those unforgettable island sounds.
Come join us for laid-back Island morning and see how Hydra measures up in our rate my corner breakfast edition
