Eltz Castle in One Take: 850 Years, One Family, No Conquest

I’m here at Burgouts for another one take history. So, let’s get started with it. This castle is over 850 years old. It has been in the same family for 33 generations. It even has a siege tower right next to it. Built in 1330 when an archbishop’s had a little bit of a feud with the Els family. Honestly, it just looks like a fairy tale castle, something out of Harry Potter or whatever fairy tale you grew up with as a kid. And this is definitely the type of castle you’ve either seen on Instagram or you’re thinking of when you’re thinking of castles in Germany or in Europe. You can hike to it, which we did today. So, obviously, my brain’s a little bit or you can take a bus to it. I would recommend the hike because there’s a lot more to see on the trail, but just take a look at this. This is every kid’s dream or anybody that’s growing up with Disney or something like that. This is the castle. And like I said, it’s been in the same family for 33 generations until this day. So you can still visit it today. Come by. Like I said, hike to it though. One take one. Sorry. One take history.

In this One Take History, we’re at Eltz Castle, one of Germany’s most iconic medieval fortresses. Built in the 12th century in the Elzbach Valley, it has remained in the same family for over 850 years — surviving feuds, fires, and even Napoleon without ever being conquered. From the Eltz Feud in the 1330s to its status today as a fairytale castle open to visitors, Eltz is a living time capsule of European history.

No cuts, no retakes — just one continuous take. That’s the challenge of One Take History.
