Discover Greece | Ouranoupoli Halkidiki 2025
Hi everyone and welcome to my channel.
In today’s video of discover Greece, I am visiting a seaside village in northern
Greece in Macedonia called Ouranoupoli. There will be footage shot by
car, boat, drone, and underwater. I will be commenting during
the video to give you the most highlighting information
about this historical place. I hope you enjoy this video as
much as I enjoyed making it. And I would appreciate if you could
subscribe, like, comment, and share. This will help my channel grow. Thanks in advance and have fun. On the top of Mount Athos Peninsula and at the distance of 120 km away
from the airport of Thessaloniki, lies the village of Ouranoupoli, the gate of Mount Athos, the holy mountain. The village is situated on the
coastline in the northwest part, the very beginning of the Athos Peninsula,
part of the bigger Hakiki Peninsula. Ouranopoli is a divine landscape
combining mountains and sea beauties. It is surrounded by a wonderful forest which
is being offered for walks and exploration, promising unforgettable holidays, especially for the travelers seeking relaxation
away from the stress of the town. Mount Athos is one of Greece’s
most prized attractions. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988. There are 20 monasteries and more
than 1,700 Eastern Orthodox monks living in the protected peninsula around it. Ouranoupoli is the last settlement
before the border of the monastic state. You need a permit to get past the
strict border and there’s still an age-old rule forbidding women
from living there or even visiting. Inevitably, Ouranoupoli is the last stop for
all pilgrims who wish to visit Mount Athos since they have to collect early
in the morning the Diamonitirio, a written authorization and
the ticket for the ferry boat. Close to the port, there’s an office that issues a
special permit required for visiting Mount Athos, which is restricted to male visitors only. One of Ouranoupoli’s most eye-catching features and a welcome for the visitors
is the beachfront Bizantine Tower which was built in the 14th century
to protect the town from pirates. It’s practically intact today and you can see
it from any of the surrounding sandy beaches. Besides that, Ouranoupoli in Greek means the city
of heaven, the city that drives you up to heaven. There are a lot of stores with a wide range
of orthodox icons of unique Hagiography, silk screen, silverware, polishes, and aged wood. Also, you will find various church-like items
and a wide variety of Mount Athos wines as well as other natural, organic,
and traditional products. In front of the tower lies the
port, the gate of Mount Athos, where either the ferry boats
travel to the monasteries or cruise around the peninsula at a
distance of 500 m from the beach. During the day, the activities give
unique opportunities for swimming or fishing at exotic beaches across Ouranoupoli, on the small isles where they can be visited by
either a small fishing boats or small speedboats. In Ouranoupoli, the visitors, apart from the
hospitality and friendly spirit of the residents, have a unique chance to savor
the fresh fish caught in the Mount Athos Gulf in traditional fish taverns to relax in pleasure cafes
or bars watching the sunset. Dotted along the streets are excellent taverns that offer fresh fish and delicious
homemade recipes with Large portions that are sure to fill you up. Scroll into the center and you find
a handful of more modern additions. YouTube? Yeah. Yeah. Say hello. I’m from Austria. Subscribe. Yeah. Where to Subscribe? Where? There. Aris Germanos. Aaa Germanos. Yeah. Aris Germanos. Have a look. Yeah. Subscribe so you can watch your video on YouTube. Okay. Where are you from by the way? Where are you from? Austria, Vienna Oh my god. Beautiful city. I’ve been there twice! Enjoy Yeah! Let’s take a short walk on the colorful
streets and neighborhoods of Oruranopoli. It has nice houses, beautiful
trees, and friendly people. Beautiful traditional small
houses and villas with tile roofs, small gardens and balconies are almost everywhere. Just 30 minutes of walking around the
streets and you’re certain to see them all. A beautiful oldstyle Greek
Orthodox Christian church of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Elleni
lays in the center of Ouranoupoli. Sunday services are attended
by old and young people. Good enough chanting and an
appearingly humble and serious priest. Perfect location for after church coffee and
sweet cream pie in surrounding village cafes. Now it’s time to go swimming on
the most famous shore of the area. Akrathos beach, which embraces the feeling
and the senses of the absolute summer, awarded with a Blue Flag for its
cleanliness and water quality, and the distance is only 2 and a half km away. Hallo! How are you! Are you good! Like and subscribe. This beach is absolutely beautiful and attracts
both locals and tourists with its golden sand, clear waters and beautiful surroundings. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing,
swimming, and various beach activities. The beach is wellmaintained, offering a relaxing
atmosphere for families and friends alike. For the last part of the video, the footage
is coming from the lens of the DJI drone. Let’s see Ouranoupoli and
its surroundings from above. This is where the video ends and I would like to thank all of you who have
watched up to this point. Your subscription, comments, and interactions to my videos motivate me
to keep uploading new and better ideas. I hope my videos are something you can come back
