Day Trip to Neuschwanstein Castle in the Rain Bavaria Germany Travel Guide

On a cold, rainy day, we went to No Shanstein. Because they do not allow dogs on the tours, we had to leave Maymay at home. Poor pup. We did not plan ahead and reserve tickets, which you could do. So, we left our Airbnb at 6:00 a.m. to get to the ticket center at about 8 a.m. The No Funstein folks reserve a small portion of the tickets for walkups, and we got to the front of line at 8:30 and got 10:40 tickets. They say they generally sell out about midm morning, but we didn’t want to risk it. There are three ways of getting from the ticket center to the castle. You can take a bus, you can take a horse pulled carriage, or you can walk. The horse pulled carriages are sort of interesting. They’re actually hybrid vehicles. On the way up, both the horse and electric motor work together to pull the carriage up. On the way down, the hybrid motor regenerates electricity to insist on the return trip going back up. You can either look at the photos online, buy something in the gift shop, or just accept that the best views are on the outside. [Music]
