Durlach is the oldest district of Karlsruhe, which until 1715 was an independent town and the capital of the Margraviate of Baden-Durlach. Located at the foot of the Turmberg hill on the eastern edge of the city, it is known for its well-preserved historic center with narrow streets, half-timbered houses, and a 16th-century town hall on the main square. The Turmberg castle tower offers panoramic views over Karlsruhe and the Rhine plain. Today, Durlach remains a cultural hub, hosting fairs, concerts, and festivals, while its medieval core is one of the city’s main attractions.
