24 Hours In CRETE – Local Greek Food Tour of Chania 🇬🇷
[Music] That’s the best baklava I’ve ever tasted. Really? Water flour yeast. Wow. Do I put it all in my mouth? I mean, it’s up to you. We are in Ha Cree in Greece. Greece’s biggest island by size and by population. And we got so many recommendations from you guys about the food, places to go, things to do, but we couldn’t choose. So, we decided to bring in a professional. We’ve got Costas here. Hello there, guys. He is going to show us all the best foods to eat in Creit, and you’re going to know what to try when you come. Cost us, thanks for having us. Uh, you’re welcome, guys. Actually, uh, welcome to Cre. Uh, today we’re going to have an amazing food tour together. I’m going to let everyone know about the foods in here, about the culture here. And if you’re thinking about visiting Cree, what are you doing, guys? Book your tickets now. So, come on. So, let’s get it. Already going to be fun. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s get it. We’re heading to the gem of the city, the old town of Tanya, guys. So, actually uh we’re going to uh dive into uh the culture here. We’re going to dive into uh you know, the Venetian neighborhoods, the old Ottoman neighborhoods, and uh we’re going to blend with the locals after this tour. Actually, you know, after this trip, uh you’re going to feel more like locals. But uh for me uh you know now I’m 34, it was about time to do something with my life. And like you guys, you you know, you started your own journey, switched it up. And uh you look uh you look like you’re living on cloud nine like me. I mean you I think you get it. The island life is for us. Of course, we love the island life. I mean you have you have to move to a Greek island. Here we’re visiting a familyrun business opened back in 1935. Actually, Manolis the owner continues the legacy of his greatgrandfather. And uh it’s very common for many cretton families to be into dairy production. Why? Because most of them own animals, their own animals, sheeps, goats, that’s the main livestock of choice. And uh the cheese that we’re about to try are uh mostly made with sheep and goat milk. for everything to happen, we have to jump in. So, let’s see what they have in store for us. Costas was just telling us some interesting things. Like, one one thing is that cuz it’s seasonal, the milk, there’s less on offer. So, Abby and I noticed this when we went and bought Greek yogurt the other day, the prices really increase. €6 for Greek yogurt. It’s a crime. Yes, it is a crime. Wa. There you go. So, like I mentioned, we’re going to start with the subtle ones and then we’re going to move on to the tangy ones. And the first cheese that we’re about to try is called Mizra. Misitra. That’s is that the same as the um is there a lookout in? Uh in other places they have they have misra. Do I put it all in my mouth? I mean, it’s up to you. That’ll be genuine reactions. Genuine reactions. Yes, the honey makes it very special. That’s fantastic. Grace, guys. You got it. You got it. Gosh [Music] wants me to guess the the herb that they’re using in this cheese and I’ve never done a taste test before. Um but is it rosemary? No, it’s not rosemary. It’s Italian basil. No, it’s not gang. Another chance. What do they put on? Time. Time it is. eyes. Boom. There you go. I feel like it might have been from deduction, but you got it, guys. So, [Music] thank you so much for It’s uh you know, it’s pharmaceutical man. Yamas, guys. Cheers. Boom. That’s strong, right? So, we’ve wrapped up our cheese festivities. It was phenomenal. And we are on to our next destination. We’ve got two bakeries that we are hitting up. So, we’re actually diving into the suite before we get into dinner. Dessert before dinner. You know, we love it. But we are going to have a very popular CIT pastry and it is only found in Cree. And ready, check this out. The first thing that arrives on the table when you’re having dinner, it’s usually the leases. There we go. No, no, thank you. I have them already. Those here are what we call learaka. Lear. And actually what we have here are uh local delicacies that you find only in cit uh pastry uh pastry dough on the bottom as a base layer. The middle it’s all about cheese filling. The first two cheeses that we have misitra and unfro mixed together fused with honey and cinnamon on top. People love them. How can we go wrong? I mean that’s the reason why I don’t get a summer body every summer guys. Almost a cheesecake with pastry on the outside. Sweet or savory? Sweet. Sweet. Sweet. Sweet. It’s really, really tasty. [Music] It’s so good. It’s like cheesecake, but then it’s got like the crunchy and then got cinnamon or something on top. Beautiful. 10 out of 10. Yum. [Music] Now we’re about to have some lumades. I don’t know if you’re familiar, but you probably had some lumades at the Greek uh church festival back home, but actually lumades are what we call the honey tokens. uh they were uh offering those to the back in ancient times since ancient Greece to give you an idea to Olympic game winners as a token and that’s why they kept the name honey tokens of course. Yes. Water, flour, yeast. You get them into the deep fryer pan. Boom. There you have it. You drizzle them with syrup, honey, cinnamon, walnuts, ice cream. Oh, of course you can have ice cream on top. How we going so far? Very good. Cheese platter was fantastic. Smokeoky one was good. I’m the worst for remembering names. Really, really good. Yeah. No. Then we’re having two desserts and then we go on to our main. But we’re actually about to go explore into the old town which is apparently over 700 years old, which is so freaking cool. Um it’s not too busy. It’s about 6:00 p.m. So, we’re getting like the the best time of night apparently to meander through and have a little bit of a look. But I’m very excited. Kostos is raving about the old town. He says it’s one of the best places. And of course, he’s probably a bit biased. said it’s one of the best old towns in Greece. So, very excited. Actually, perfect weather. It’s the 2nd of October today, so it’s actually a really nice time to come to Cree. I can’t believe we’re having dessert before our main dinners. Is that a normal thing to do? Um, look, look, mothers go with everything, right? Uh, it’s very common for some Greek restaurants to offer them after a dinner, but actually, yum. You’re getting the idea why we love them. Fantastic. So crispy sugar syrup on the inside. It is freaking delicious. I understand why the locals love them. [Music] We were just in Leather Street. And what’s interesting about this street is uh in CIT, it was the one of the only places that had cows. So, one of the only places that had leather and so they sold a lot of leather leather products out of there. And one of the cool things that they sell is this is these boots that uh men have to wear for their weddings. Um and it’s part of the traditional created dress. Have a peep, guys. Have a peep. Like I mentioned, the back alleys is where magic happens, guys. [Applause] So, we’re right now in the old Venetian city. This is 400 years old. And look at these buildings. How funky are they? Apparently, they have to keep some of the building exposed. It’s part of the regulations. Kind of like what we have in Australia. But, you know, you can’t change the facade here. You have to keep some of the building, old building exposed. See? How cool is that? So cute. [Music] Wow. Ladies, gentlemen, this is where magic happens on the lucky street. [Music] It’s called places like hidden bar cocktail bar. That’s exactly [Music] [Music] how natural has more protein than a regular honey because of spirulina. We are the only store here in Kanye. [Music] One of my favorite pistachio. [Music] How could it be bad? So good that you can eat the but still strong. Still strong. Rocky with honey infused. Yum. Fresh. That’s nice. Yeah, I approve. [Music] See, we’re having fun, aren’t we? So cool, this place. Anyway, I’m very, very surprised at how beautiful it is. It’s blown us away already. [Music] So, right now we’re on the right wing of the port and this is the less touristy area where we’re going to go. But if you want the best sunset, you need to go past here and over there and you’re going to get the best sunset in the whole of Cree or the whole of Hana apparently according to Kostas who hasn’t been wrong yet. So good. [Music] Wow. [Applause] [Music] And now we’re going to go and find a secret spot to view the sunset. Apparently, it’s through a not an abandoned building in a building that’s been occupied um by activists. So, let’s see how we do. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Apparently in this water is a 120 year old turtle named Harris. Come here at 8:00 p.m. and you can find him. And then they’ve got all these shops set up on boats. How cute is that? So many cool things here. So, what’s the name of the tour? The name of the tour, guys. I mean, we forgot about that. Evening feasts, a jour a journey through cretton flavors. Now, we’re heading for a proper creaton feast. So, stay with us to check this out. Now, the party starts. The party starts, guys. Yes. Come on, dude. Let’s do it. [Music] Actually, that area was [Applause] [Music] No way. You You almost fit in there, bro. [Music] [Applause] [Music] This is St. Nicholas Church and uh converted into a mosque during Turkish occupation. When we got our independence back, locals decided to leave it up there because they wanted to remind them that uh they prevailed. [Music] Some words, you’d um you’d be surprised that like I’m actually quite hungry after everything we’ve eaten so far. The grocery store was fantastic, the blue honey, a lot a lot of uh sweets and dessert, but we’re about to have the main feast. What are you excited for? So excited for the duckos mainly and hopefully some good meat. But you know, this tour has been fantastic. We’ve got our steps up. We saw a beautiful sunset. We went to like a little hidden sunset top bar bit. Not bar, little rooftop rooftop lookout and is fantastic. I reckon it’s I don’t know. We haven’t explored enough, but it’s it’s taking me by, you know, every corner is like, wow, it’s beautiful and it’s just colorful and vibrant and just great energy. Highly recommend. Put it on your list. So guys, let me uh let me mention what we’re having here. Actually, sausages made out of uh beef. They’re follow recipe of 20 years now. It’s a secret recipe they don’t share with others. You have to try them. Marinated anchovies. Very special this traditional dish to us. Fresh cut anchovies marinated into vinegar. Zucchini fritters with Greek yogurt and dill in the middle. Oh boy. I mean, I can have those for myself. This is what uh we call kaluna here. The filop pies of cit. Usually we’re not talking about big slices like spanacopita. Kaluna individual ones filled with cheese drizzled with honey. Woo. Kuna might be my next favorite thing. Oh, I’ve never tried it before, but it’s like pastry, honey, and cheese on the inside. It’s got honey on it. Oh, look at that. That’s crazy. And this is s This is supposed to be savory. So, is dessert planned here or are we going elsewhere for We’re going elsewhere. Come on. It’s a feast. Meatball as well. Meatball’s delicious. And this one, fava. A special dish. Fava legume comes from Sadorini. Uh it’s a a dish that uh we have as appetizer. It gets the appetite going. [Music] a must try dish in Cit. This is Dacos. I haven’t tried this since we were first in Greece in May. Oh my gosh. It’s a crusk. Is that right? A rusk. A rusk. Sorry. with pureeed tomato nutra, which is goats cheese base and herbs. Is it broken? No, I’ve got to break it. Oh, all right. Are you ready? So good. Oh my god. You know, my favorite thing is anchovies. My favorite. Yum. Can confirm this tour is fantastic. And oh no, Ty oil on his shirt. Actually, I think I’m on his pants. I’m not. It’s on my pants. It’s all right. It’s too dark to see. We are going to put all the details in the caption below because in the caption in the description below because you have to book. 12 out of 10. The best [Music] These are the licky that we had before, which apparently translates to oil lantern. There we go. We’ve got a picture here. Costus has shown us the top side. Top side. Ah, there you go. Wow. Oh, yeah. That special. That’s what I mean. Like, oh my gosh, that’s the best baklifi I’ve ever tasted. Really? That is so yum. This is a small package that contains two vials of uh automatic herbs of cre. We hunt uh pick them from the foothills of White Mountains. Uh me and my girlfriend. One, it’s a seasoning for your salads, meat, whatever. And the other one is what we call cretan molden tea. So, this brings us to the end of our food tour with Kosus. It was the best. Yeah, 12 out of 10. There’s no doubt. We had so much good food. We are just enough full. Probably couldn’t fit in another bite, I reckon. And he gives you this beautiful uh treat at the end. He gave us this beautiful treat at the end which is to her favorite. Don picked himself for tea and for cooking which is awesome. Thank you so much brother. We’ve had a great meeting you appreciate it bro. Uh the next time that you come back uh we’re heading to the countryside. So you know keep the energy up and don’t forget visit crit next summer. I’m waiting you all here. There you go. You had the offense.

I hate you guys, because I keep watching your videos :). The travel bug is bothering me to venture out, however with kids, jobs and school schedules, it is not going to happen anytime soon. Anyhow, your Albania series has already put Albania on top of the list for next year travel (crossing fingers that it happens). Thank you for sharing your experiences.
No tasting cheese bougatsa? This is a must in Crete.
Spend any more time in Crete and you're going to go from fit nomads to fat nomads! Beautiful video guys, love the facial expressions after biting into those tasty treats. Chania is great. Hopefully you get to Rethymnon, I think it's actually better than Chania!
Athens is a maximum 3 day stay. Then head back to the airport and get the next flight to Crete.
Whilst Crete is an Island and relies on your patronage. They are far more interested in satisfying you first. To them the money will work itself out. Crete should become autonomous (having the freedom to govern itself or control its own affairs.) and show mainland Greece how things are done.
Epic! I settled in Chania with my family from Australia. Golden Visa right before prices went 250k euro property investment to 800k 😅 You have to be rich now.
Hey guys, best wishes for your stay in Crete. If it is still warm enough outside, look into the hidden gem of Kedrodasos beach near to the popular Elafonisi beach and the unique and beautiful mountain eco-retreat of Milia Village…….both are in the region of Crete where Chania is. Cheers!
Wow who's the hot blonde?
I absolutely loved this video. Great work, and this made me hungry just watching it 😂
I love Crete! We went in 2007! It was amazing. My favourite beach was falasina we went in the off season so it was quieter
Stupid people ruin the beauty of old city of Chania with their stupid graffiti !!!
Don't go to Chania! It is a tourist trap, overrated and full of scammers!
I spend 3 months in Chania this past Winter .My 5th time in my favorite City .Looking forward to go back again .❤ Chania .
