Exploring the Mallorcan town of Can Picafort (#069)

All right, we’re getting ready to go to Camp
Pika Fort today. We’re going to take the bus from Santa Margarita. Once we get there, we have
two options. We can go south to the necropolis, which we’re going to do, and then north is
uh this really big park that we want to check out. Isn’t that right? That’s right.
So, we’ll see you in Santa Margalita where we’re catching the bus to Campa.
All right, we made it to the bus stop. bus should be here in 2 minutes. All right,
we made it to Can Pika Fort. We’re in front of a biblote a library. Cassandra
wants a picture on this this dude. I do. We’re finally out and about doing
things. Are you excited? Like weeks in, huh? Like 3 weeks in, huh? Yeah, like three
and a half weeks, I think. Like or 3 weeks. Yeah. Yeah. Finally seeing something
other than Palma and Santa Margalita. All right, made it to the beach. Now we’re
going to go find some food. All right, we found a place. It’s called Acodor Argentino.
And uh we’re getting some burgers. I’m getting a beef burger. She’s getting a veggie burger.
Veggie burger. And then uh some beer. And yeah, it’s the menu of the day. And she’s ordering
one of these. Beautiful looking smoothies. A mango smoothie. is. Yeah, for seven bucks
or six bucks. We’ll show you what it looks like when we get here. All right, the
burgers have arrived. Looking nice. Oh, the plates are so big. Like they I like that. I
mean, it’s not like it’s full, but the plates are so big. Yeah. As you like. The plates are nice.
So homey. All right, bonapet. We’re back on the path heading to the necropolis. We’re back on
the path. Back on the path. Do you guys think I should get these glasses? They look pretty
uh pretty balling. Pretty balling, right? Yeah. [Music] So, I could totally be wrong, but I think
these statues are the indigenous people of Mayorca and Menorca, the Taliotics, I believe
they’re called. Okay, quick pause here. So, in this video, you’re going to hear me
call these statues the Talotic people, which were the indigenous people of Mayorca
and Minorca. That was just me assuming at the time because I had just read about the Necropolis
Desonel, which is where we are currently walking to. The Necropolis is the most significant Tiatic
era cemetery in the Boleric Islands. I later found out that these sculptures are created by Joan
Benyasar, a Mayoran artist. They’re spread all over Campaikica fort, blending art with the
landscape. I decided to leave my original commentary in because it just shows what I was
thinking in the moment, but just so you know, I couldn’t have been more wrong. And these are
Benyosar’s works, not ancient Telotic figures. Here’s some more Talotics, I believe. Again,
I could be totally wrong. I’m just assuming that’s the Taliotics, bro. Talotics. Talotics.
Apparently. Apparently, I’m saying it like a white gringo. He’s like, uh, they’re called
talotics. Yeah. Well, what I mean what? The guy on the kayak over there probably thinks
I’m Are you getting the boy or the guy? Here’s another Talotic. I think I might go in this
tourist information and find out if that’s exactly what they are. We can just look up later. They’re
open. Really? Place it says from 9:00 to 5:00. Wait, is it past or 9 to 3? I mean, yeah, it’s
past. Oh, sad. It’s some pass through, Milo. Sad. H. From afar, it looked like I could jump across
this. I obviously cannot. Oh, this is like a How in the world’s You can What? Like, did you think
you would climb across? This is where I would swim. Why didn’t I bring my swimming trunks? This
is perfect. I tell you. Tell me what I told you to bring your trunks. I know. We found this building.
Wonder if it’s an old like crab. Huh? I’ve been looking for crabs. Remember you found crabs? I
found some. You going to catch one? I wonder. But there were like three. But probably.
Were they big? No, they’re smaller than I probably but they probably like we scared them or
something. Look, some more talotics over there. Oh my gosh, this is so sharp. That hurt. Yeah, it is sharp. This is like pure paradise, huh?
Yeah. The water. Yeah. So cool. So beautiful. We got to go over there. We got to go see
those talatics. But we’re going to come back on Friday. We just saw that there’s a market.
Today’s Wednesday. We just saw that there’s a market every Friday from 9 to 1:00 p.m. So, we’re
going to try to come back on Friday and bring our swimming suits so we can check it out and also
do some swimming. Yeah, but we’re probably not going to go in here. No, we definitely need to go
in here. This would be so cool. No, it’s so cool though. Look at the rocks. I know. But it looks
so fun. It does. I don’t think so. Yeah. I don’t think so. I think so. I think so. All right.
So, here are the other tal this is my favorite bunch of talotic statues. They look so pretty.
And hopefully they are the talotics cuz that’s what I’ve been calling them this whole time. But
I mean, what else would it be, you know? Yeah. [Applause] Okay. So, we’re about
halfway to the necropolis at this point. It’s a long journey. Long walk.
I want ice cream. She wants ice cream. Okay, we’re on the final stretch. We are no
longer on the road. We are trekking through sand. Cassandra’s hating life right now.
Yeah, I am. We’re almost there. Really? We’re kind of almost there. Maybe
like 20 or 30 or 2 hours away. Oh, I’m so thirsty. I know. We should have brought We
should have bought water. I know. And hungry for ice cream. I know. So many things. It’s okay.
As soon as we’re done with the necropolis, we’ll come back and we’ll get some sustenance.
This is the first shade we’ve seen all day. We are almost to the necropolis. It’s just
right around the corner. We can see it. We’re almost there. This whole day led up to this
for us to see some ruins. We’ve been walking for hours. Hours. No, it’s been like an hour.
Yeah. But it feels like two and a half hours. All that walk to see the Talotic Necropolis,
also known as the Necropolis Day Sanreel. Well, now we have to walk all the way back. Yeah. All right, we’re back into uh Camp
Pika fort. We’re just going to walk around aimlessly until we get
till we uh go back to the house. So Ellie is gone. She left to uh the
Grand Canary Islands for a wedding and so we’re just watching the dogs.
But I ordered an Amazon package and they can’t find the house which is over
here. I think he’s pulling up right now. Anyways, like I was saying, uh, so Ellie called me
from the Grand Canary Islands saying that this guy couldn’t figure out where where she was living,
so I had to meet him down here on the street to get the package, but I got it now. So, anyways,
yeah, we’ve just been uh at home all day watching the dogs. Um, we we can leave we can leave the
dogs here by themselves, but I needed to stay here to uh get my package. It is my new hard
drive, my 5 TB, at least it should be 5 TB, 5 TB hard drive cuz the one that I currently have
is almost full after 3 months of footage. So, I figured before we get to uh Morocco and everything
past Morocco, hopefully Tunisia and then who knows what’s happening after Tunisia, but yeah, I might
need more footage. So, yeah. So, I bought an extra hard drive. And I was kind of concerned that it
wouldn’t make it in time because we’re leaving in like 3 days to Morocco, but it came. So,
I’m really excited. Got some I got five extra terabytes now to put some uh footage and yeah,
pretty stoked. But yeah, so I’ll see you tomorrow. We are going to attempt to wash the dogs today.
Time for a bath. Oh, he’s not even running. Yeah, it is running. No, he’s he’s not even running.
Oh, I thought the water. Wow. Wow. Good job. Wait, wait, wait. There we go. Now, do it.
Good job. Yeah. Ah. Oh, I’m sorry. Well, it’s our last day here in Mayorca. Tomorrow
we’re flying out to Morocco. It just rained like so hard. It It stopped now, but you can still
hear the thunder, but it was crazy. That’s the craziest thunderstorm I’ve seen here in uh like
the month that we’ve been here in my haircut. Um, but yeah, it lasted like 15 minutes, but
I could see like lightning over there. So, I I pulled out my GoPro to see
if I could capture any of it. Um, but probably not. But we’ll see. I’ll set up
the camera right here. See if we can capture it. Actually, I’m going to move the camera a
bit higher. Get a better vantage point. There it is. That wasn’t a big one, but it
was something. Ooh, did it capture that one? There we go. That was sick. I hope
it captured that. That is so cool. All right, we’re at the Palmy airport now.
We just got some cava so we can have our last little bit of Cava while we’re here in
Spain for the next hour and then flying to Morocco in like an hour. And so while we wait,
we’re going to drink these celebrate our whole like month and a half, over a month and
a half in Spain. Yeah, like in Morocco, we’re probably not going to we’re going to try
to not really drink a lot. Yeah. So, so yeah. So, we’ll see you in Cheers to that and uh see you in
Morocco after this flight. Cheers. All right. We made it to Morocco. We are in Fez Fez airport.
How do you feel? I feel first time in Africa. Yeah. For real. Yeah. It looks like what I
expected like from just from the like from the up. Yeah. From the flight Moroccan, but it
wasn’t like what what is this? And it was like, oh, okay. This is Morocco. Yeah, for sure. I’m
so excited. Yeah. To be back in North Africa. Hey,

We finally made it out to Can Picafort after a few weeks of mostly sticking around Palma and Santa Margalida. We caught the bus over, wandered around town grabbed some burgers, and then headed toward the Necrópolis de Son Real. Along the way we kept spotting these sculptures that I originally thought were ancient Talayotic figures. Turns out they’re actually works by Mallorcan artist Joan Bennàssar scattered across the beach and town.

The walk to the necropolis felt way longer than it probably was (especially in the heat without water), but the scenery made up for it. Crystal-clear water, sharp rocks, little crabs, and a spot that looked perfect for swimming. We’re definitely coming back on market day with swimsuits.

This was one of our last few days in Mallorca before flying out to Morocco, so we just tried to soak it all in. A crazy thunderstorm even rolled through before our flight. A month and a half in Spain went by fast but now it’s on to North Africa!
