Things to know before Drivin in France from the UK

Hello everybody. Today I wanted to just discuss how much it actually cost me and my family to go to the south of France via car. We decided to drive because we wanted a bit of an adventure. So in this video I’m going to go through all the costs cuz I know some other people might be interested in having their own little mini adventure with the family. We went for almost 2 weeks. So keep in mind that these costs versus a week’s holiday on a plane kind of thing. This is two weeks that we went for. And here are the costs. Now, firstly, I’m not going to add the accommodation cost when we got there because that’s obviously down to yourselves. What it cost us to actually get there travel-wise in fuel, we spent around £350 in fuel to get there and back. That includes all the a-roads, everything from getting from our house to the shuttle, everything. We got the shuttle. We managed to get a um voucher for the way down. It cost us £100. On the way back, to be fair, it did cost us £150. And then, so that in total already is5 £600. Then you have to take into account the toll roads. Now, you don’t have to do the tolls. You can just go to the south of France without paying the tolls. But we wanted to go on the toll roads cuz they’re quicker. um you can go nearly 90 mph legally. So, they were a lot quicker for us and we just thought there’s rest stops every sort of 10 miles. So, it were ideal for us with a little one to keep stopping when we wanted cuz we weren’t in a rush to get there and back. Now, the tolls were quite expensive. We worked out that we spent nearly £250 in tolls to get there and back. That’s including the ul at different places as well. That takes us up to £850. And then I’ve added on £50 at the end just for little bits because there is a couple of things you need to know. You need a UK sticker for the back of your car. Everyone in the car needs to have a high viz jacket just in case you get pulled over or you break down or you will get fined. Um, we needed you can get these from the AA shop from the shuttle if you want to get them from there or you can get them online earlier on. just type in what you need to drive in France and it will tell you. We uh needed light deflectors for our headlights cuz obviously you’re driving on the other side of the road. So that’s £50. That takes us up to 900. And then if you want to add on all the little extras that we did obviously cuz our insurance our breakdown sorry didn’t include European cover which I know a lot of people’s won’t. So for 2 weeks with a reputable company, I won’t say who, but it was one of the best breakdown companies and it only came to £50 for 2 weeks breakdown cover. We obviously didn’t use it, but just for peace of mind, we paid that £50 just for two weeks European breakdown cover for France. So all in all, it cost us between £9 and £950 for everything. Now for a two week holiday in the south of France, I don’t think that’s too bad cuz you can get accommodation quite cheap. Euro camps, things like that. And we absolutely loved it. We definitely do it again. I think it’s going to become our uh yearly family holiday because we absolutely loved it. The drive down might sound quite brutal, but we absolutely loved it. My little lad loved it. There’s lovely rest stops all the way down. If you want to know more about what the actual drive and journey looks like, feel free to check out my other videos because there is another video showing you exactly what it’s like to drive there. We did the entire journey. Thank you very much. I’m going to do another video shortly of what you need to do to get through the shuttle. So, please like and subscribe and then I’ll give you all the information of how to get through the shuttle, how to book, where to get the app, just everything you need to know and how easy it is to do the Euro Tunnel. Thank you very much for this video and I’ll catch you on the next one.
