SIENA AND MONTERIGGIONI – FABULOUS THINGS TO SEE & DO WITHOUT TICKETS + WHERE TO STAY!
[Music] So, here we are. Here we are in beautiful Sienna after all this time. I can’t believe I’ve been coming to Italy since I was 15 years of age and I’ve never made it here. But my mom was very time since I’ve been here as well. I was telling them before you hadn’t been here since you were quite a young man. Yeah. Um, so it’s nice because it’s kind of a new feeling for all of us together today and it’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Turn it up a little bit. I I have, but yes, you have to turn a long way, David. It’s very tall. Wa. It’s one of the tallest ones I’ve seen so far. Mind you, they’re pretty tall in San Jimo, but it doesn’t seem so overwhelming as this. I think this could be taller perhaps than the ones in San Jim, possibly. Anyway, come to Sienna and I’ll tell you about the parking that we stopped in later on as well. Actually, when we go back, I’ll explain it to you because boy oh boy, a big shout out to our beautiful friend Owen from our man in Voltera who told us where to park. Owen, thumbs up. Thank you, friend. Really fantastic parking place with escalators that bring you all the way up to the height. It was very, very well loved the whole way through. Thank you. So that is a cian or sienna style delicatess very very elegant and very posh indeed. We’ve just arrived in Sienna and we’re just starting our walk now and we’re going to take you around with us a little. My first trip to Sienna and Kalin’s as well. And David hasn’t been here since he was a young man, so it’s almost new to him as well. The first pat we’ve come across is called Pata Saleni. This building on this side is from the 18th century. I didn’t see the age of this one at the back, but you can see that that is a lot more ancient than the one to the left. And let’s see if we can see who the wonderful statue is of. This buildings on on this side is absolutely beautiful as well. And this is Salucio Bandini. Very impressive. This is Piaza to you don’t normally to sorry to. And there’s another really lovely statue here of Romulus and Remis in front of this incredible building here. And David and I were just looking. It’s covered in hooks even far up. And I’m kind of trying to work out what those hooks would be in the ancient times where they would have hooks all the way up the building. It’s very interesting. Really beautiful. So, we’ve just found the entrance into Pa del Campo. But just here there’s this amazing building that all I can see written on it is Leiti, which means the United But I’m not sure what that means, but it’s very beautiful. Incredible interiors on the ceilings. Oh, wow. And it’s busy. My goodness me. Wow. Oh, it’s impressive, isn’t it? My goodness me. Oh, this is really impressive. And I’m just thinking about when they hold the paleo and all the house horses are going around. Oh, it’s incredible. Oh, there you go. Gracious me. Let’s do a spin for you. That’s where we’ve just walked through. Oh, isn’t it impressive, David? It’s beautiful. Wow. You sort of It hits you, doesn’t it, as you walk into it? Oh, it’s wonderful. I just said to David, I was we were telling Kayyn about the because she didn’t know about it. And I was saying, “This is nuts to think all the tens of thousands of people that are here with these horses racing around up and down this very uneven square.” I had no idea. To me, it was always going to be a flat square, if you know what I mean, flat levelwise. But this is, can you see the the way it raises up in the corners there? That’s quite obvious, isn’t it? That that’s higher. And that end as well is much higher. Plus, that angle up there is like a right angle. So, when the horse turns that corner, my gracious, no wonder they’re such incredible riders. Wow, fantastic. And we’re so lucky with the weather because it’s been raining all week. [Music] A beautiful example of the Medici symbol, but with a crown above it, which I’ve never seen. before and that’s just in the wonderful building where we’ve just been here on camp. And the Sienna Awards, in case you’re curious, are photographic awards and that’s a ticketed event that we’re not going in to see, but there are a lot of people going in there obviously as part of their tour today. [Music] We’ve come down into some of the back streets now and we just stopped in a lovely interior design shop and bought a couple of little things. This is called Lo de Papa the Pope’s Lodge. So it does look it says in honor martini in which I’m not sure what that Latin means. If anyone can look that up for me and tell me that would be great. I can’t do that when I’m walking around. There’s a lovely little restaurant underneath it. And we’re going to stop to the lunch very shortly. I’ve never eaten risotto with kacho cheese catch and um pear, but it’s different, but it’s really lovely. David decided on the lasagna and Kayn decided on a pizza margarita, a classic. You’re not in the film, Kayn. I promise you. Just focusing on the food. Is that not right? Correct. That’s correct, isn’t it, David? Only the food. [Music] The [Music] mama. I load a candle for you in Sienna. [Music] So beautiful. Sending you lots of love. [Music] We’re going down via deascaria towards delato to the market square. Market squares are usually so lovely. That’s why I thought it would be worthwhile. Actually, it does look like it’s lovely. And look at those lovely places overhanging it as well. There’s a beautiful lodge on that building up above. Oh, what a beautiful market. And look at the views out. Looks like a castle down there. Oh, it’s gorgeous. [Music] Gracious. That’s one of the tallest, largest lodges I’ve ever seen on the back of that building up there. It’s incredible. Go down and see what it looks like under this market square. I love the way they have the whole thing lined with trees. So when the people have the market inside, they have the backing of the trees behind them. That’s really sweet. [Music] this beautiful um ceramic store where the gentleman is sitting painting the things by hand. And I just bought a little contrad um tile which I’ll show you. But this is the actual contrad which is called or the caterpillar and that is its its actual meaning which I think I’ve worked it out means in ital in ancient Italian um as sings the revolution also my name in other words my name sings as loud as a revolution. I think that’s what it means. And I’ll show you the different little tiles and which one we got cuz it’s all wrapped up. And oh, I went past them. Just here. So that’s them there. And we got the little one here. Where’s it gone? Ah, this one. The caterpillar that turns into a beautiful butterfly. But they are just €10 each. And the gentleman is sitting there painting as you can see on the cups and everything. So very very genuine. We’re just enjoying doing the shops now this afternoon and we’ve bought a couple of little bits and pieces and Kaitlin’s very happy. She’s bought a pair of very beautiful Italian jeans that fit her like a glove. [Music] Pinocchio is very Tuscan. So you do see a lot of things of Pinocchio around because he was created here in Tuscany. Some very nice fashion stores and some more beautiful, beautiful buildings. [Music] Oh, this is absolutely stunning in here. It’s behind the Hugo Pratt exhibition and look at the ceilings in this beautiful portico here. It’s like a court inter internal courtyard and David is standing next to an absolutely beautiful ancient well. It’s a little bistro in here evidently. Oh, isn’t that gorgeous? That is beautiful. [Music] Fight. Does it work? Oh, wow. Oh my gosh. Isn’t that amazing? Wow. [Music] So this is called Palato dele [Music] where the beautiful Hugo Pratt exhibition is and there’s a wonderful courtyard at the back where you can sit and drink and eat. Just fabulous. [Music] Oh my gosh, this is the most beautiful facad on DMO that I’ve ever ever seen. All of that pale pink marble and the gold leaf on the tiles at the top. I’ll zoom in for you after. But this against that bright blue sky this afternoon. And I love the verdigree on the massive front doors where the copper obviously has changed color. Oh, it’s just sublime. It’s incredible, isn’t it, David? Wow. It’s a beautiful bit of work. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Wow. Memories of Sienna. David, do you have any memories of Sienna or is it rushing back to you or is it more beautiful now than what it was when you were young? The main square and uh places around there definitely remember those. But it’s uh it’s a beautiful town. It’s gorgeous. And I think sometimes it’s funny, but I think sometimes you appreciate things more when you’re older, oddly enough. I don’t know if Kayn who’s an earshot would agree with that. Um but I know I visited places when I was young and when I go back to them, I look at them in a very different light and with a very different eye, different kind of appreciation perhaps. the the detail which is not the first thing most people would look at. Yes. So you sort of go, “Oh, look up there.” Yes. Something, you know, incredible craftsmanship. [Music] It’s beautiful. We’re just having a tiny little sit down for a little while because we’ve been walking quite a bit and it’s just a lovely spot to sit. Look, I said to David, we’re sitting leaning against a marble wall, sitting on a marble chair or a bench, I should say. Sorry, with our feet on very exquisite marble floors. Pretty extraordinary. All this marble would have taken a long time to ship from Carrera. Oh gosh, can you imagine? How did they bring these things to build these massive buildings up? Just beyond me. It’s incredible, isn’t it? Just so you can see where our feet are. Fairly exquisite exquisite foot paths up and down the front or the side I should say of this wonderful wonderful dormal. Incredible. And I think we’re looking at the back of maybe the quest perhaps. Yeah, state police perhaps and a museum over in the corner there as well. And despite there being a few clouds, we’ve been so fortunate with the weather. We got a rainbow. Isn’t that lovely? Amazing. [Music] So, we’ve just arrived in our accommodation and it’s a beautiful old Borgo. So, like a little tiny village and it’s called Role Borgo Detoano. And we’re in a triple room, the three of us. And it’s been raining as you can see, but the sun just came out on the building and it looks so pretty that I thought I’d just take you for a simple little walk around. So, this is our room here. the little table and chairs and the larger building. There is reception and lovely lounge areas inside those lovely white metal tables that you can see in the sun. That’s where we eat breakfast. As long as it’s not raining, of course. And there’s some bicycles over here. I’m going to take a little wander around in the actual um buildings behind. Oh, look at that lovely sunset. And I thought once while the sun was still here, I would just show you there’s a lovely pool area. [Applause] Oh gosh, that sun’s gorgeous. It’s been cool today though. It’s only been 21° C maximum, so we’re definitely getting some autumn weather. Oh, there’s some lovely little outdoor areas out the back here as well. And then you’ve got gorgeous gardens, lovely sunbeds, and a beautiful pool looking out over the vineyards beyond and the hills. And it’s just splitting a little bit, but that’s okay. And there’s a lovely car park where we have our car under cover there. And it’s gorgeous. Oh, what a shame I haven’t got a swimming bathing costume. Tomorrow I would take a dip if I known, but I mean I knew there was a pool here, but we didn’t know we were going to actually come until the last minute. So lovely. I thought I’d just walk around the edge of the pool with you. Oh, this light is so beautiful. Nothing like the end of daylight at this time of the year because it has this lovely golden glow to it that you don’t get during summer. And look at these lovely vines. Oh, they’re laden with grapes. Absolutely laden. They haven’t done their vendia here yet. Vendmia means harvest of grapes. Just spin around for you so you can see behind. Isn’t that lovely? And with the boro beyond. Very pretty. I’m so glad we chose this after the hectic time in Sienna, which is beautiful, but I’m not used to cities anymore. And I said to David, I haven’t seen that much humanity in 6 months. So, I was a little overwhelmed with all the people, though. It was wonderful, delightful. But I must admit, spending the night in a place like this, lost in the hills, is far more my cup of tea. Okay, let’s go up now. And I’m just losing the light now. The sun is just dipping behind the hills. Isn’t that pretty? Can you see that? Let me touch the screen for you. Oh, there you go. It’s just dipping. So, and the clouds are still quite dark, so I don’t know if it might rain a little bit again, but I’m so glad I ran down here just to get that last little bit of light. It’s so pretty. And hopefully tomorrow we’ll get to do some morning shots as well. It’s a lovely, lovely spot. Great choice, if I say so myself. [Music] Oh, another rainbow. That’s the second one today. That must be a good sign, surely. [Applause] Just thought I’d capture the last few little rays of sun here. It’s so pretty the way it’s reflecting on on the bottom of the the underneath side of all the clouds. And then in the valleys there’s just starting to be I can see in the distance. I don’t know if you’ll capture that very well. I’m just on my phone because my camera ran out of battery. I haven’t got it plugged in. But um in the distance I’m just going to point there and here. There’s that wonderful buildup of white. It’s like clouds, but it’s like a fog just lying in the valleys. Obviously, after the heat and also the rain. And the rainbow has got even bigger now. It’s totally above us. I just feel so blessed. It’s like this wonderful gift today that I’ve seen two beautiful rainbows, one right in the heart of Sienna and one here. So, I’m taking that as very, very positive vibes. Wouldn’t you say so as well? How beautiful is that? [Music] [Music] That’s a pretty place, isn’t it? It’s very pretty down, isn’t it? [Music] Buo from Bgo to Toyano where it’s a beautiful morning. Sun’s shining on the vineyards and those beautiful forests and glistening on the swimming pool which is a little chilly this morning. Probably too cold to go swimming in our underpants, right, David? Yeah. Oh, well, never mind. Maybe next time. You do have to jump in. You do. You really do. [Music] [Music] Well, we’re leaving this beautiful, beautiful place now. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Honestly, it’s so lovely. We’ve really enjoyed our night here. I would happily come back here as well to stay a few days by the pool in warm weather. Really is. Look at that. Isn’t that gorgeous? Honestly, they’ve got the umbrellas up. It would be a nice enough day to lie in the sun today in all honesty. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Looks like the pool man’s there. But we must move on. So now we’re off to Monty Jani, which I love to show Kalin and then home to Keani. Onwards and upwards. [Music] So we’re back in Monte. It’s actually lovely today being a Sunday morning. There are people around, but it’s not as crowded as what it was when David would and I were here for about 2 years ago, which was pretty packed. So, I’m sure it’ll get packed later on at lunchtime. But, it’s really, really sweet. And I’m going to hit hopefully the antique shop that was closed last time. [Music] [Music] When did you join me in the sunshine? I’ve been looking at the little pottery pots inside for downstairs, but I can’t decide on the color. We’ll come back. And this used to be an antique store and now it’s a wine bar. Things change every time you come. [Music] So that’s a little store with lots and lots of handcrafted jewelry. It says in English there. And then the shoe shop even has a little window at the back here as well. That’s where Kayen almost bought some shoes, but she couldn’t decide. They were a little bit too high in the heel for her. Beautiful part of the mall here. And another cute shop. And I can see Kaylin and David headed straight for it. We do like to look in all the lovely artisan stores. Kayn in particular likes it. There’s that gorgeous fountain there. [Music] China. So there we go. We bought some beautiful wine from this gorgeous gentleman who makes it all himself. Ciao. Kacho tekka. So they make the pecorino here. Kacho. And it says you can’t for a walk without trying the pecorino. And it’s got a sweet as pie little tasting area out the back. We might come back there. [Music] Come on, baby. Take a leap of faith. We got a love that’s worth the wait. [Music] Santa Maria, which we’re back at the beginning again. Now we’ve done one big circle and some shopping and now we’re on our second circle and we’re going to go down. I don’t know if I’ve been into Santaia before. Let’s visit. So now we’re walking down into the main gardens of the via French. And I remember coming down here [Music] They’re resting under the fig tree. But I’m just walking along the pathway here, the columns pathway. And this is like a million birds above me singing. It’s so beautiful. And then up behind me, I have the beautiful steeple of Santa Maria. And this is one of the areas of SA again that is a a safe place and a resting place for the pilgrims of the walking franch which is one of the large pilgrim walks which I told you about before. [Music] There’s something I’ve been dying to say. Honey, let’s take a leap of faith. It’s lovely. Just capturing Kay and getting some photos. Sneaky. Such a beautiful doorway onto wonderful Tuscan scenery. Thank you, Monty. Another lovely little stop. [Music] There’s only one thing I know for sure. [Music] I’m holding on forever more. [Music] I’m never going to let you go. [Music]

Beautiful Siena ❤thank you for showing us around and your rice looked very good 😊. The Duomo was indeed stunning 😍. David with all the handbags 😂 super useful. Lovely place you stayed at, love the countryside. Ciao amici 😘🥰🥰🇮🇹
Hello Marisa and David what a wonderful vlog. Great memories for us. We have visited Siena many times but one visit was the following day after the paleo in July and they hadn't cleaned up the Piazza del Campo. You can imagine the smell in the piazza we definitely ate out in the back alleys that day. It was rather funny. 😂 Talk about timing! Your stay looked relaxing. Monterrigioni is such a quaint small town. Thank you for a wonderful vlog brought back some wonderful memories for us. 😘😍🥰
Ciao Marisa, David and Caelan, Sienna is, absolutely beautiful, and of course the Duomo is a magnificent building. The views Marisa when you were walking down to the pool, were so amazing. The end shot with the sunset, " veramente bello". Safe travels Caelan. Tanto amore da N.Y.
How beautiful is the weather in this vlog. Bright & clear colours in the countryside. Sienna was very busy, we found that too but so glad we got there. The escalators were amazing too! You always find amazing places to stay. I agree about the cities, I just loved all the little towns & just wandering wherever your feet take you.as we didnt make it to Monterregio it was lovely to have you take us around🤗🧡🥰🌻🎶🇮🇹🍷🧡
It’s gorgeous!! Definitely on my list of places to visit!
What is the name of the beautiful lodgings where you filmed the beautiful sunset?
Thankyou for another beautiful video. What a charming town. ❤

Bonjour, Beautiful country,a very relaxing day for your family….Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely stunning architecture, you captured it so beautifully🤩💯 Siena looks like a great place to improve your Italian (UniStraSi ), is that what/where Caelan studied for 4 months? I am camera shy like her 😆❤️
Another lovely video. It was so much fun to take another trip to Siena…this time as an armchair traveler. Super excited to finally meet you soon and thank you in person for all of your amazing house searching and project management expertise!
Thanks for another wonderful video. Such beautiful places to visit and stay at.
It took me 35 years to finally visit Sienna after having visited so much of Italy prior. Sienna has become, by far, my favorite city in Italy. Truly magical. ❤
