New Shophouse Mall!? Temasek ShopHouse REOPENS!
Behind me is Tamasc Shop House and it just
reopened in September. And here’s an insider look. [Music] This is pretty cool because I have
always wondered what the heck is this building because it looks so cool, almost gothic like.
So apparently now they combined four shopouses into one. Oh, wait. I just noticed there’s
another one here. Chemise shop house. So well, I guess this is the whole shop house. 1 2
3 4 four shop house combined. And I read that there are new restaurants and cafes. So
let’s explore. So location wise it’s between Doby got MRT station and the cafe mall. And we are
here. Let’s go inside. [Applause] Wow. So big and clean. So they call this the social impact hub,
whatever that is. But I’m assuming it’s just like a very fancy mall. Obviously, this is a event
space. A very interesting architecture. Again, it’s a heritage building. And what’s cool,
you already see a lot of people. This is the new restaurant. And I invited to try later.
Renovation took about 2 years. I’ll let you know if it’s worth visiting. There must be some kind
of office upstairs. And over here, what’s here? Oh, looks like a cafe. Very fancy. They sound
like books and merchandises. And now we are entering I think the third or fourth shop
house. Well, this is a retro cabinet. And another huge space for events and meetings I
guess. I think we covered the cafe which is here. Event space, co-working space which
we saw just now. And apparently there’s a rooftop garden as well. We can go outside
from here I think. Oh yes. Wow. Oo nice. very photogenic, especially that spiral staircase.
I read that it’s one of the first spiral staircases in Singapore. And it may be one of
the longest, too. It climbs up four to five level upstairs. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m allowed
to use it. I thought the rooftop bar might be up over there. There’s also a cafe. It’s got forward
coffee. Hey, can I just have a small black coffee? [Music] Coffee was 550. Pretty standard. Um, it’s
nice, but I wish they didn’t use plastic. I feel like I’m taking in a lot of micro plastic. So,
apparently this place is called the living room. And yeah, it does have a living room vibe. Uh, you
can see uh children’s book. It’s free to read. And of course, you can enjoy a coffee. But I still
don’t know how to get to the rooftop. Maybe it’s not ready. I mean again they just opened.
We having coffee. Let’s eat lunch. Okay, back to the restaurant and there’s still a long
queue. So it’s called BB Violet and this is the casual version of Violet. Violet is one of
the most successful and popular piranakan restaurant chain in Singapore. And no doubt
this is where you see the most crowd. I have Thank you. Thank you. Yes. Let’s go. Wow. So
many people. Hello sir. How are you? Hi. Hi. I’m good. Thank you so much. Thank you. Okay.
First of all, I love the interior. Piranakin natural vibe and uh it does have the casual
vibe so the price should be cheaper than Oh, they got as well. Oh, nice, huh? 720. Not bad.
So got me 750 fisha laka 1350. N 1490. A bit, but it does look beautiful. Well, I’m going to
have to try the rendong. Got my wifey loves, but I don’t know if they use the same recipe.
We’re going to find out later. Got chicken s. I think I never tried this before. The
fishy as well. The kopi starts from $250 from the ocean. This is $9. That’s nice. The aroma of the five
spice. perfectly crispy and light. Okay, next up is 1350 and it’s so beautiful.
I can tell they put a bit of turmeric. I think that’s where they get the yellow
color. There’s half egg and two clones. And I love how they dig out the intestine at
the back. And they even kept the head so I can enjoy the sweet head to start out with very creamy coconuty spicy and I think what
makes it different from others I think it’s either ginger or ginger flour that’s quite
strong the noodles perfectly and the shrimp so Fresh though again 1350 for this.
So if you know the price point of Vi, this is considered quite affordable. Wow, the okra
salad looks beautiful. There’s plenty of eami. [Music] That’s very nice. Refreshing the sambal balachan. Nice crispy and light from the
anchovies and onions. Might be funny, but so far the okra my favorite chicken sauté
1450 for six sticks. It’s pretty big. Cheers. Wow. As a Japanese, I always wonder why
local yaki to I know you don’t call it the yakitori is sate. I always wonder why
it’s so small. Because if it’s bigger, you can enjoy the texture of the chicken
more, right? But here they did it big, you know. I would say it’s a Japanese yaki to size.
So I can feel the plump chicken. It’s very very nice aroma. I would say this is more delicious
than the typical [ __ ] hawker sauce. But again, of course, you’re paying more, but really
high quality. Wow. What is happening? Look at this nasi lema. There’s like a mountain of
chicken. It looks so tender, juicy, crispy. So, this is a signature nasi leak. 14.90. And I’m mind
blown. It’s It’s going to be amazing. So, I like to mix a bit here at the side. Wow. OMG. Looks
beautiful. It’s going to be a big bite. Cheers. By far one of the best nasi lak chicken
I had. It’s so flavorful, well marinated, crispy, so tender and juicy. Okay, guys, if you’re
coming here, get the nasi lama. It’s absolutely beautiful. The chitti peanut chicken, everything
is delicious, top-notch. One con might be that the rice is a bit small, so if you’re a big boy like
me, get two. Next up, beef or dang. 1990. Wow. Look at how tender the meat is. Even my 6 months
old baby can slice this. You don’t need power at all. Wow. That is so tender. I’m a big fan of beef
renal. It’s actually one of my favorite piranakin cuisines. Or is it even parakin? I’m not sure.
It might be Malaysian. But this is one of the best I have. So tender, so flavorful. M. The next
dish is the first time I’m ordering. Bobby bonte strawberries pork belly and fermented soyan sauce.
I love anything fermented except for my socks. Wow, that is so delicious. It has that oomph, you
know. I’m sorry. I think this is not the menu name is different. Oh, yeah. This is the buil soft
rib. Guacawak. One of my favorite productings. And they did a pork rib version. So you see some
bones. But you know the meat close to the bones, they are the tenderest. It’s so good. You
know, as a Japanese, I never had a pirate food prior to moving here. And I was missing
out so much in my life because, you know, Pakan food full of flavor, aroma, spices, so
complex. And that’s what I love, you know, and I think Japanese appreciate that too. You know, we
love complexity. like simple food, but often it’s the spiciness level that you know the Japanese
cannot take. But here, not too spicy. Okay, next up. Oh, this is the uh I forgot the the name,
the pork belly dish. So, there’s potatoes as well. M. It doesn’t really have that fermented, you
know, flavor. It’s not too strong, but wow, it’s so full of flavor, mumminess, and
it has sweetness as well. I like that, too. Wow. This is everything delicious,
you know. But again, the portion is on the small side. Maybe that’s why, you
know, it’s kind of affordable. But they do uh you can buy rice for about 150 and
everything definitely cheaper than buy. And what’s cool, they have kuay and you can choose
it from the display. Check it out. So it’s not only great, they got chiffon pandong cake. How
much is it? Oh, $3 per slice. Price’s not bad. Oh, interesting. Pulu te tart 780 per piece.
That looks so interesting. I do have qua fries at 2 p.m. Oh, only 3 p.m. Okay.
Okay, got it. Thank you. So unfortunate. They kind of purit, but it’s my first
time having it in a tart form. Cheers. I love how it’s so naturally sweet. I can
tell they didn’t put too much sugar and the bottom part crispy. It’s light. It pair with
my kopio sauce. I love the cup. Ah, very nice. So, that was a tour of the newly renovated Timas
shop house. It’s not really a mall. Nothing much to do honestly, but it’s very pretty and clean
inside. There’s a cafe. There’s a restaurant we just had. It was very nice. Shout out to all the
staff. You know, everybody was so kind and the food very nice. My top recommendation is the beef
and dong, the chicken nasi lema, the lady fingers, and almost everything I had. [Music] Seems like
chagi. Finally, there is no quue. Finally. You know how I talked about my plastic cup when I
just had my coffee? It’s something I’m trying to reduce. You know, there’s a study that shows
inside a normal adult, there’s about 5 to 10 g of microlastic and that’s like 1 to two credit card
worth of plastic inside your brain. And again, uh there’s different researches. Some research say
uh it’s not that much, some say in fact that’s the case. So, uh, please do your own research,
but the point is that too much microplastic in our environment right now and I’m trying to
reduce it. That’s why I don’t really like when restaurants provide coffee in the plastic. And um,
I did do out a lot of food because obviously I’m not going to finish all of that and I don’t like
wasting food. So, I’m going to uh enjoy it later with my wifey for dinner. And what I will do is I
will never uh microwave even if they say this is microwavable. I will not because the micro plastic
they will melt out. So, I will take out all the food, put it on my plate, and then microwave. And
I want you to do the same because, you know, you are my viewer. I I care about you. So, let’s live
a healthier life. Say no to plastic. Okay, that had nothing to do with the video, but thank you so
much for watching. Have a good day, guys. Goodbye.

There used to be Long John Silver's and an OG store there.
Where the cafe is, during Covid period that’s where you collect hand sanitizer once and we get free coffee!
Building on the right used to be Singapore Institute of Architects.
Hi their cups are not plastic! They are bamboo and Temasek is big on sustainability!
I thought the cup is the brand Huskee. They use recycled coffee bean husks, not plastic, dude.😅
for a fnb like this along dobbhhy ghaut, i would say the the price is affordable. the food looks much better than neignbourhood food court. 😀😀
加油me and my son love your videos.
hello ojisan .. the micro plastic "news" you read online… they also news feed to me… so apparently some environmental conscious interest groups are selling propagandas to readers for some unknown purposes… though i agree to reduce plastic items in daily lives… but don't read too much into these toxic micro plastic news feed when they have just become a explosion of propaganda materials!!
from getting one such online micro plastic article… i started getting a tonne daily… so i switch it off!! BEWARE of PROPAGANDA
This was a very old building,I think it was called the McCallum House…
Happy to see that you brought your own reusable shopping bag to carry the "tao-bao" home. If possible, I would bring my own containers to any restaurant for takeaways….not a fan of those plastic containers that they use. Please say NO to straws when ordering drinks too….unless you're ordering bubble tea ofc.
I cld almost smell the aroma of the food thru the video!
wow immediately turned off after hearing the 'talk' about micro plastics.
I've been to Violet Oon's higher end restaurants three times and I must say that the food is consistently bad. The restaurants are gorgeous looking, but the food is awful! The dishes are too garlicky and the Paranakan flavours are just so off. I grew up watching Violet Oon on cookie related programmes on television and used to read her food reviews in the ST newspapers. I wouldn't bother going near this 'lower end' one. People praising Violet's Paranakan food is like tourists and Singaporeans praising Hawker Chan's Chicken Rice. That's an example of a lousy Chicken Rice that was cheap and somehow got lucky with a Michelin rating.
How can the Violet Oon's food be nicer than before. They were in Jewel. Its probably the price of the food that stop people from going before. It was very quiet in Jewel.
Thank you! Ghib-san. So happy to see this stretch of old buildings are getting a second life. There used to be some nice eateries many years ago. Maybe not this building but the adjoining one. I think one eatery was called
'Talk of the Town'.
Is the cup which you said it's plastic actually a huskee cup made from recycled coffee husks?
That Nasi lemak looked amazing! So much so I've a mental note to go and have it.
Two-thirds of this was a food review
I forgot to give a like and came back to do it bcos ur message of minimizing plastic waste resonates with me deeply. Thanks for speaking up! ❤
thank you for caring !❤🩹
Hello hello! Correct me I’m wrong.. but I think Foreword Coffee Cups are huskeecups, which are actually made from recycled coffee husks with eco-composite polymer. But yes! You are right as the world is using too much microplastics… we should really do something about it!
Was the meal sponsored?
The interiors does not exploit the exterior theme. Disappointed
That's not a plastic cup. It looks like a Huskee cup—if so, it's made of coffee husk!
The pricing of foods are rather pricey, especially from Violet Onn cafe!
Good place to go to. And good food too. I like your advice on plastic. And microwaving too. There's also an old Russian study that says microwaving food is not a good idea. Well, to each his own.
