On June 6, 1944, Sword Beach became the easternmost landing site of the Allied D-Day Landings. British forces of the 3rd Infantry Division, supported by French and British commandos, stormed this 8-kilometre stretch between Ouistreham and Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, aiming to secure the eastern flank and advance toward Caen. Despite fierce resistance, they succeeded—marking a pivotal step in the liberation of Western Europe.
