Here, in the Old Art Gallery, are housed some of Europe’s most precious works of art, including Raphael’s Sistine Madonna. Now, as we step out into the central courtyard, you have your first full look at the Swinger Gardens. Isn’t it spectacular? The symmetrical layout, fountains and ornate pavilions creates a truly harmonious masterpiece of Baroque design. Looking up at the palace facade, you can appreciate the incredible details of the sculptures and classical elements. that adorn every window and column. Here we have a useful map of the Swinger which shows us the different sections and some areas under renovation. Our route will take us through various parts of this incredible complex. Let’s climb this elegant staircase for a different perspective. And here, right below us, is the enchanting Glockenspiel pavilion, with its characteristic green roof and delicate ornaments. The Glockenspiel rings several times a day, adding a musical touch to our visit. Looking back into the main courtyard, you can truly understand the scale of the Swinger. The carefully manicured lawn, walkways and various architectural elements come together to form an exquisite open-air gallery. As we move forward, we approach the iconic crown gate Kronentor, easily recognizable by its magnificent golden roof. This gate is one of the most photographed symbols of Dresden. Below us you can see the moat that historically surrounded the palace, adding to its grandeur its defensive capabilities. Further on we have another view of the graceful architecture of the Swinger with its continuous arches and numerous statues. Every corner here tells a story of artistic mastery and grandeur. And finally, let’s admire this gorgeous fountain with mythological creatures. Although the water is not fully flowing today, it is easy to imagine how vibrant and lively this place would be. with water flowing over these beautifully carved figures.
