Autumn vibes in Saxon Switzerland! Join me on a scenic hike to the Bastei Bridge (Basteibrücke) — one of Germany’s most iconic viewpoints located in Saxon Switzerland National Park, just a short trip from Dresden.
In this video, I explore (with my friends) the stunning sandstone formations, the Elbe River valley, and the colorful autumn forest that make this region a dream destination for hikers, photographers, and nature lovers.
About the Bastei Bridge:
The Bastei is a famous rock formation rising 194 meters above the Elbe River. The original wooden bridge was built in 1824 and replaced by the current sandstone bridge in 1851. It connects several towering rock spires, offering panoramic views of Saxon Switzerland National Park and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
Fun fact: The name “Saxon Switzerland” was given by two Swiss artists in the 18th century who were reminded of their homeland’s landscapes when painting here!
🚆 How to Get to Bastei Bridge from Dresden Hauptbahnhof
Take the S-Bahn S1 (direction Bad Schandau or Schöna) from Dresden Hauptbahnhof to Kurort Rathen (approx. 40 minutes).
From Rathen, take the Elbe ferry across the river (2 minutes).
Hike up through the forest for about 30–45 minutes to reach Bastei Bridge.
💡 Tip: Wear sturdy shoes, especially in autumn when the trails can be slippery!
