PERFECT 2 DAYS In Munich, Germany- Best Things To Do In Munich
[Music] We spend the perfect two days in Munich discovering local haunts that we think Aussies would love as we explore the best things to do in Munich. We’re Gary and Denise from Turtle Tracks Travels. Join us as we take a break from Overland 4×4. In this series, we travel across Europe by train. Starting in Rome, then traveling to Arezo, Florence, Munich, Bavarian Alps, then Prague before flying to London. Well, we’re leaving Florence today and we’re heading off to Munich. I know. So, um, and it’s 5:30 a.m. in the morning. Yeah, cuz we got to get the train to Belong Bolognia. Bolognia Central. It’s a fast train. From here to there it’s half an hour and then we get on the super fast railjet train to Munich. I know. Should take about another 7 hours. Is it 7 hours? Yeah. Something we had to carry them into cases. Two cases there down there. But we did it between us. I always scan backwards. Yeah. Brilliant. I was two flights. It’s this flight and the next flight. Anyway, we did it. We did it. Shut the door. Shut the door. That’s it. We’re not coming back. Done. The one thing about going nice and early is there’s no traffic. So, we can wheel down on this nice smooth tarmac for most of it. For most of it. Yeah. So, it should be We shouldn’t hopefully break any wheels. Yeah. Hopefully. My hand. All right. Put on your back. Yeah. Right on your back. Right the front. Hang. Come here. I’ll tuck you in. We’re all falling out. That’s it. Yeah. You all set to go? Good to go. You ready now? Yeah. Let’s go. Well, we made it to the station. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why didn’t you just get a cab? Well, with their cabs over here, you can’t how them down. You have to go to a taxi bank. And the taxi bank for us was at the train station anyway. Nowhere near which was. And also, you can’t bring them for you. No. So, well, some might speak English, but yeah, we just saw frog march it is. Yeah. And also get your fit. Yeah. So, Gary’s gone and done. Guys, we’ll go have a coffee. We might as well cross on. So, we got a jam cross. Ooh. And a couple of long black. Nice. Americano. Set us up for the day. It’s a coffee. And then we’ve got now we got about what we got 45 minutes where our train leaves. Yeah, there’s plenty of time. That’s fast train. Well, we finally arrived at Milonga Central. Our train was basically cancelled. Um so we’ve missed our LJ train. So, we’re going to have to go to the office here and sort it out. Basically, all the trail no other trains were delayed apart from ours. Great day, ain’t it? Boys away, eh? Guess what? What? We only had to wait what, 5 hours? 5 hours at Bologna because we missed that first train because of them train. what is an hour late and there wasn’t another fast train until 10 to 2. Either that or they offered us the bus which would take us to Verona. You’re still going to be getting the same train and then hook up this train there. So, we thought we might as well just wait here. Yeah. And then they’re going to charge us €66, get on the bus, go to Verona to pick this train is going for anyway that we’ve already paid for. Yeah, that makes sense, is it? So, we’ve been hanging around in the station for 5 hours. That’s been a bloody nightmare. So Gary’s a happy bunny, Gary. I was keeping out of you. I could have killed someone. Good feel. Good feel. We’re here now. Anyway, should be an amazing girl on this probably trying to get going. Oh, and then we wait for you. Waiting for your platform on, but you’re nervous as hell. Wait, thinking we can’t miss this train otherwise we’ll be sleeping in the station tonight. Um, thinking it would come up a good half an hour before it got down to like 20 minutes, but it finally come up and it’s was a fogg march through the information. This station is massive, so don’t rely on public transport. It’s useless. [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] on the train. This live Gary encouraged me to do it. No, I didn’t. I didn’t. I didn’t, honestly. You know what I mean? Train journeys are three feet. It’s just as bad as getting you know have a glass of wine after spending all that time 5 hours whatever in the station. We deserve a drink. Well, I do anyway. And little man down there let go of glasses. Yeah. working on a little bit of milk in a minute. Oh yeah. Where is it? Cheers. Cheers big guys. Big nose. [Music] So transition from Italy to Australia. Where are you guys from? Uh, I’m originally from Russia. Where? Sorry. Russia. Russia. Okay. I’m I’ve been living in uh Germany for quite a while. Almost a decade now. We’re nearly there. Yay. Ming. Well, Ming. So, east. East is but it’s it means east. Then we got to get on the espad accommodation. Not been a long day, is it? It’s uh quart to 9. We left at We got up at half past 4 this morning. Yeah. Not a big day. No, not a big day. Jesus Christ. And here we are. Coming into Munich. [Music] Oh. Oh. Easy, Tiger. Easy. Mu. Two glass of wine. It’s not my fault. Oh, I’m standing out on the Esban. Yeah, we’re in Germany now. We’re in Munich. And we got we only got to go one stop to Ryzen Plats. Yeah. And we’re off. Yeah. To our hotel. It’s only a few minute 5 minute walk. Yeah, I think it is. Yeah. Busy. Busy, isn’t it? Yeah. Look, it was quite busy on the um fast train, but this is fast. 7 hours. Yeah. Well, yeah, that’s the fast. The slow train’s 11. Yeah, I know. Through the mountains. We come through Likenstein, didn’t we? So, we come out of Italy, through Likenstein, into Germany. Into Germany. That’s how we roll. Yeah. International travelers. Man of mystery, aren’t I? You’re a woman of mystery. Black plats. Rosenheimimer. Even Rosenheimer. What’ you say? I don’t know. Ah, ready? Yeah. Ready to go? Yeah. Ready to go. Yeah. We got to the top of the escalator, right? We never get around to Denise. Go on, tell them. Someone asked me for directions to S8, which is the Espan 8 train. Why they asking her? We’ve just arrived. She ain’t got no sense of direction. Do you speak English? She went, “Yeah.” He still carried on to ask me. I thought, “Look, I’m just trying to look like I’m a local. Come on, get your bag. Let’s go this way. Come on, little niece. Let’s go up the escalator. Next ones. Get out of here. Get on the street. Hopefully, this is the right way. Oh, that’s lucky. SC, did it? Right. Street level. Here we go. We’re off. Right. We’re in our dress. Right. Just wait a minute. Right. Go and get some cup of tea, glass of wine, cold beer, whatever. Just wait for Denise. Put it in. Right. She’s found it. Found it. Six minutes. We just got to make sure we go the right way. So, I’ll get Gaz to do that cuz I’ll send us on a wild goose chase. Yeah, like I did that guy with the S8. Yeah, that’s right. Oh, yeah. Just mate. You know where he is. There you go. Close. I know. M got the back of me hand. He’s lost now. Poor bloke. That’s lost. Start. Right. Here we go. Little has got to try and work it out where we are. Is it that way? No, it’s that way. I think If he gets it wrong, we can all rip the piss out of him. No, you can’t. It’s that way. Okay, let’s go. Let’s see if he’s right. Well, we finally made it to our room. We’re knackered. We are. We are absolutely shattered. It’s been a long day, ain’t it? Mark. Well, we got up about before 5 this morning. And what’s the time now? 9. Horrendous chie, is it? Oh, this not too bad. Leaving hotels, to be honest. Yeah, normally we get an Airbnb, but um this time we just got this little hotel. So, um yeah, it’s got everything you need really. Yeah. So, I think we’ll be getting changed, showered, and go to bed. You can go to bed. Oh, where’s that? It’s a light, guys. Oh, no. Oh, it’s light under there. Oh, there you go. Oh, it’s a Dalek. Oh, and um I don’t know if there’s a balcony. Oh, there’s a Oh, there’s a little balcony. Yeah, there you go. Oh, you see just um garden and apartments opposite. But I think it’d be quiet here. So that’ be nice. Bloody hope so cuz I’m going to sleep. Yeah, let’s go. Well, we finally got here last night, but we were so knackered. We had showers, went to bed, did we? We did. So, uh we got up a bit late. Well, not late. We was up early, but then we haven’t really got moving, have we this morning? No. Not got moving. So, finally finally stepping out and it’s about it’s 12:00. So, we’re going to go for a little stroll. Yeah, we’re going to go for a little stroll around there. Yeah. Let’s go have a look. We’re just a minute from our apartment. Is this like really fast little river? It’s like a little park here. Wow. That’s really fast. It’s really going some, isn’t it? Like really, really, really fast. Yeah. Cool. If he’s playing poo sticks, you drop it by the time you turn around and be gone. Turn around. Yeah. Be right down there. Poo sticks. After you play poo sticks as well before poo sticks. Yeah. I always win that. Don’t I? I won. Yeah. Right. I won. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Look that carving was carved out of that tree. Oh, yeah. Quite impressive, isn’t it? Look at that. We don’t know what that says. I’ll die nature. I’ve got that bit. Uh, and the rest I don’t know. Look, I carved a head out of it. Look face. Amazing, isn’t it? Oh, there’s some skill skill there. That take a few hours, wouldn’t it? Oh, just a little bit. Just got to show you that little car. It’s the smallest car in the world. Seems to be a lot of police presence. We just see a police car back there. There’s another one over there. We don’t know what’s going on. Just causing chaos, I think. Yeah. Well, why are you in Byron? You might as the Bayern Munich store, aren’t you? While you’re in Byron, Byron. All right. While I’m in Munich, you might as the Bayern Munich store. And when you take your glass back, you get that €5 back. Gary’s going up to get his beer. I don’t think there’s a glass charge on his one. It just says leave it on the table. There he goes. [Music] And yeah. Well, um, basically then you can go and sit anywhere that doesn’t say that it’s reserved. So that’s the idea of having the glass charge. You take your glass back to the right place. Cheers. Cheers for a drink in Munich in the market. Just got myself a little sneaky procco. Little sneaky one. Oh yeah, it’s quite big. It’s quite a big glass then. So, you had to pay €5 for the glass. Yes. They only told them that. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So, I can’t smash this glass otherwise this drink is going to cost me an extra €5. Yeah. It’s a lot of money then. Just a stones throw from where we stand, literally a couple of minutes walk, is the river. So, we’re going to walk into town, the main square, the old town, which is only 10 minutes, isn’t it? Something like that. It’s not very far. No. We’re going to do our own Third Reich tour. Yes. Are we? Because um we looked at We know what the tour groups are like. They walk around with about 50 60 people in a group holding up the paddle board and you all follow. We thought, “Nah, that’s not us.” So, we’ve looked up where they go and it’s going to be Terren’s tour. So, we’re going to um we’re going to go and do our own. Yeah. So, we literally walk over this bridge and we start it. We can head into That’s it. Easy, isn’t it? Yeah. Should we go then? Come on then. Follow the follow ter. Follow the tour. Let’s go. It served as a gathering place for Nazi rallies and events and it was a site of a major march during the beer hall push in 1923. Well done little news. That’s lovely. That is you’ve done a good job of that. Right. Should we go and have a look? Let’s go have a look. See if we can get across the road. Yeah. without getting run over. Yeah. Oh, this is nice. Lovely. [Music] This tour on. Look, tour. Join the tour. Join the tour quick. That’s what we did want to be in. We’re doing our own tour. Look. [Music] Oh, wow. Oh, that’s amazing. It is amazing. Terren, yeah, you still owe me for this. You ain’t paid yet. Oh, it’s good. Oh, what’s the line? Where is she? Oh, I’m here. I turn around that way and she was that way. Feel like a right idiot. Well, I don’t know if you can go eat. We’re going to have a look. We’re going to have a look. Let’s have a look. Looks like we can go inside. Let’s go have a look. This is no pets, though. So, I might No pets. Yeah. You can’t take term, isn’t it? Come on, Anise. Run them stairs. Go on. Run. Got to get a bit up there quick. Come here this way. I think it’s just lots of rooms. All the work’s gone into that. And that’s just a standard window. There’s scenery in that. It’s all like glass and that. Yeah, isn’t it? And that’s only just inside here. This seems to be like every every window’s got something on it, isn’t it? It’s in there. Every window. Yeah. Every window has got like a scene or something on it. Like this one here as well. Yes. Every window we walk past has got a different scene in this. Yeah. Yeah. It’s pretty amazing, isn’t it? Look. You see there? There. Yeah. These ones going down the stairs. They’re everywhere. Look. Tell you what, I wonder how long this took you to build. What work in this? Crazy, man. It’s all carved into stone. It’s just immense, isn’t it? Really? It is immense. Look at these old doors and they’ve been here a while and they got Look at the They both weigh a ton. Oh, they move it. Come here. Well, we’re making our way to Odian Plats, which is was erected in honor of the Bavarian army, and it was the site of the vehicle put a failed coup attempt in 1923, but was later used for SS parades and rallies during the Nazi era. And it should be just down here. Guess. Oh no. Look. I think they’re doing some building work on it. Yeah. Look, it’s got all this scaffolding. Obviously, you can see the square and where they would have done their marches and stuff. But um you see the line boxes. Oh yeah. When you see on the TV, they got the two lions. That’s right. Oh no. Yeah. Gutted. Terren is sick of it. So your tour Terrence is fairly miserably is. Come on. Oh yeah. But you can see the square. It’s actually a massive area. So they would have had um hundreds and hundreds of troops here. Oh yeah. In front of this magnificent building. Yeah. Which we can’t see. All we can do, right, we can do is we’ll get a nice picture of it. Yeah. and we’ll put it on the video so you can see what it actually looks like. If we can find one and we don’t get copyrighted. Oh yeah. Yeah. Is that too much? But that’s a shame. It is a shame. But um Oh, yeah. That’s what it would look like back in the day. Look, there’s the lions. Never mind. Oh, and any information I’m giving you is just what I’ve got off Google. So, if anything is wrong, it’s Mr. Google’s fault and yours for getting it wrong. So, never mind. All right. Where we going to now, little niece? Well, hold the camera and I’ll have a look on my list. Next bit. Planned it. We obviously say everything wrong. Kong’s Plat. So, we’ll look that up and we’ll head that way. Okay. Well, we we’re here. We’re doing it. That’s right. We’re in the square. We’re in Munich. We’re in the one of the squares. Doing our own tour. We’re doing our own tour, aren’t we? Yeah. Oh, it’s a shame though, isn’t it? Yeah. So, I’d love to have seen that. I suppose they got to do maintenance. It’s just unfortunate if it happens when you’re here. That’s right. Never mind. It looks like Kong’s flat. 400 m to go. [Music] Apparently, the square was redesigned in 1933 by Hitler. It was his first monumental building project, and with it, he demonstrated the new regime’s power and ambitions from its Munich base. But even before construction had properly begun, Connisplat became the scene of public burnings of books defamed as unger by Nazis and other right-wing German students. We spent the PERFECT 2 Days in Munich in Germany, exploring the BEST things to do in Munich. We Think AUSSIES would love it here because we stumbled across a BEACH PARTY right in the heart of Munich, plus SURFING at the EISBACH wave, totally unexpected to find both these things to do in Munich. We also explored the city, visiting the Bayern Munich Football club store. We also went to the FAMOUS Victuals Market or Viktualienmarkt is the central town produce market for the Munich old-town and one of the locals’ best loved spots.
We decide to do our own THIRD REICH tour where we went to several historical sights connected to Hitler and the Nazi party, including Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz and Konigsplatz.

Hey guys, plenty of great food, and not a vanilla slice in sight. enjoy, Eric Bain
Another great look at Germany Munich, Denise & Gary. I enjoyed the buildings, parks and fast flowing water courses were you can surf. But all the beer gardens and fast food outlets. Hope you two really enjoyed yourselves in Munich. Most entertaining was Terrence's Tours sounds great way to see Munich!!
