NORWAY: The Hidden Paradise of Europe | The Real Norway Documentary 2025

Norway is the third richest country in the world and it also has the lowest male population globally. 60% of women here cannot find a husband. This country is also regarded as one of the nations with the highest human development index in the world. The quality of life here is high. The education level is advanced and healthcare is easily accessible. Social equality is the fundamental pillar of this country. The gap between the rich and the poor is relatively small and wages are nearly equal for everyone. It is among the most egalitarian countries in the world. It is also the second largest exporter of marine products globally, the seventh largest oil producing country, the third largest oil exporter, and the third largest natural gas exporter. It is an exceptionally beautiful nation with some of the most unique landscapes on Earth, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The lyrics of a song sung by Wuai, a famous Taiwanese singer, describe this country, a place where the lakes are always clear and the air is filled with calm. Today, I’ll take you to explore the third richest country in the world, Norway. Norway’s full name is the Kingdom of Norway. It is located at the westernmost part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, bordered by the Norwegian Sea to the west, and shares land borders with Sweden, Finland, and Russia to the east. The total area of the country is 624,000 km with a population of around 5.5 million. The main languages are Norwegian and English and the capital is Oslo. Because much of the country lies within the Arctic Circle, Norway experiences special natural phenomena, the midnight sun and the polar night. In winter, the polar nights are long and dark, while in summer, the midnight sun brings continuous daylight for several weeks. Norway’s economy is robust, ranking among the nations with the highest GDP and living standards in Europe. In 2023, Norway’s GDP was $485.5 billion with a per capita GDP of about $90,000. Due to the government’s abundant capital and tax revenue, the strong economy provides greater wealth and high social welfare for its citizens. People here enjoy enviably high salaries. The average monthly income ranges from €4,000 to €6,000. They typically work 7.5 hours a day and have weekends off. Sick leave is fully paid and they enjoy generous holidays. Citizens also benefit from highquality health care and free education with an annual leave of about 38 days. From elementary school to university, education is free except for dental care. Almost all medical services are publicly covered. The only drawback is that you may need to make an appointment and wait a long time before seeing a doctor. The cost of living in Norway is very high, especially in terms of rent, basic services, food, and transportation. The capital city, Oslo, is one of the most expensive cities in the world. In Norway, a bottle of ordinary mineral water costs over 30 yuan, about $4, but bottles can be recycled. Each return bottle gives you 2 to four yuan back. So, even collecting bottles can be a decent side income here. A simple meal at a cheap restaurant costs around $30, while a twoerson meal in a mid-range restaurant costs about $120. However, these expenses are balanced by Norway’s high living standards, excellent infrastructure, and efficient public services. Major industries in Norway include oil, natural gas, fisheries, aviation, and information technology. Among them, oil and natural gas are the primary economic pillars. The country possesses abundant offshore reserves and by exporting these resources, Norway has become one of the wealthiest nations in the world. After the Russia Ukraine war, when Russia stopped supplying natural gas to Europe, Norway became Europe’s largest natural gas supplier, earning over 100 billion US. Because oil and gas are finite resources, the Norwegian government established a sovereign wealth fund, also known as the government pension fund global, where the revenue from oil and gas is invested in stocks and bonds. The returns are then used for education, public infrastructure, and social welfare. Norway’s fishing industry is also highly developed. With its long coastline, the country produces various high-quality marine products, especially salmon, which accounts for 50% of the world’s supply. Norway ranks among the top two seafood exporting countries in the world. Norway boasts breathtaking landscapes and a fascinating history, making it one of the world’s top travel destinations. About 60% of the country is covered by forests, earning it the nickname the natural oasis. Whether you wish to explore remote mountains or admire world famous waterfalls, you can experience nature up close here. For instance, there is Yotenhan National Park, famous for its stunning natural scenery, including glaciers, lakes, and rivers. The park also features Gald Hopigan, Norway’s highest peak, a popular destination for hikers and climbers. Another renowned spot is the pulpit rock Pike Stolen located near Stavonger in southern Norway. This natural rock platform rises 600 meters above the lys of jord offering breathtaking views that attract millions of visitors each year. The son of jjord located in western Norway is another spectacular natural wonder. Stretching over 200 km, it is Norway’s largest and deepest fjord and one of the longest fjords in the world. Surrounded by majestic mountains, cascading waterfalls and picturesque villages, it remains one of Norway’s most popular tourist destinations. Of course, Norway is home to countless other beautiful attractions. That’s all for today. Thank you for watching today’s video. If you enjoy my content, don’t forget to like and follow me.
