Exploring the NEW Star Princess & Marseille, France Day 2 of the Inaugural Voyage

Hey everyone, welcome to Hubbridge’s Journey and I hope you enjoyed episode one of our 12 episodes on this historic journey on the Star Princess. So, we’re into day two and we are in Marseilles, France. And guess what? I didn’t get off the ship. I stayed on the ship, but Andrea and our friend Kelly got off the ship. And you got to check this out. Episode two on the historical Star Princess voyage. Check it out. Let’s go. Welcome back to day two of the Star Princess maiden voyage. We’re do Marseilles France. As I mentioned, I actually stayed on board today, been here before and decided to get some work done. But Andrea and our friend Kelly, they were ready to explore. Disembarking in Marseilles, you’ll need to grab a Princess Shuttle. It’s $16 round trip per person. The port’s too far to walk to the city. It is windy. Going to find out about our bus. So, we’re going to scan our medallion and they’re going to give us our ticket and that’s going to be our return ticket. I bet we paid for this on our app. Good morning. Good morning. Yeah. Thank you. You singing the baseball, Kelly, we got some stadium seating. I’m going to go up one so you can see better. Okay, back at the bus. We made it. We did. That was interesting. So, we purchased our tickets on the app, but it was last night. Yeah. And it said that with the tickets, we were going to arrive and we didn’t. Mine goes this way. And so they scanned our medallion but then took our cabin information just to be sure that you don’t get charged twice. So we’ll check on that later. Yeah. Okay. So that was easy, right? Pretty easy. Pretty easy. I was more nervous than she was, but she’s not okay. And what time is it? 10:11. We’re good. Let’s go. Fine. We’re in an industrial port. It takes quite a while to get to the city center. They say it’s over 4 miles. So it’s not really some place that you can walk. You’re going to have to take a shuttle taxi. So there are a question. Yes. What’s your question, Kellen? Can you get a taxi if you don’t want to do the short experience any? So it said in the paperwork that we got that there are limited taxis, but not very many. I didn’t see any when we arrived and it was 10:00, so maybe it was just too late. But it’s a very windy, bumpy road. Very much so. So it doesn’t do too well for me cuz I get a little motion sickness. So, the shuttle drops you off behind this building and it looks deceiving, but you really just come right out and then you’re going to go across the street and the cathedral’s right here. Hello. Good morning. Good morning. All set. Thank you. We’re going to walk across here. This is the back side. Doesn’t look very appealing at the moment. And the sun’s glaring, so it’s hard to see, but this is beautiful. Wait till we see the front of it. Kelly, you’re going to love it. We’re going to go up these stairs. So, I’m guessing if you have mobility issues, I think you can go down the street to get up to the street level up here, the plaza area. But the stairs are really the easiest from the ship from where the shuttle drops you off. Well, it looks like they’re doing some work on that. We weren’t doing that last time we were here. More stairs. Last stairs. And still, you’re on the side of the church. We’re going to go this way. So, the last time we were here, there’s a lot more people in this plaza. Very windy, cold day. Yes. But we get to the other side, we’ll show you how beautiful it is. It’s super windy. Super super windy. And it’s a freaking ship. This would not be a ship. This here would be Oh my goodness. Go. Made it to the front. We’re going to go under that arch. It’s really beautiful. Holy crap. Look at this wind. Come here, Cal. Your hair is just like mine. It’s windy. Oh my gosh. Literally blowing. It is so windy. But we’re going to see if we can get into the church. I don’t know if it’s open. Let’s go see. Oh, let’s go check it out. Oh my gosh. So windy. Super super windy. Oh my gosh. Windy. Windy. Very windy. Hats. Oh my gosh. It’s crazy. We just get a picture. Or get into the church. Let’s see. So yeah, this is the original main door, but they’re working on it. So they’ve got it closed off. But isn’t it beautiful? Look at the ceiling. Unbelievable. So pretty. All right, we’re going to see if we can get in. Unique. Very unique. Let’s go. Oh, market right here. Lavender smells pretty. One wine over here. Ooh, what’s over here? making a grape. It smells yummy. Sure. You like crepe. What What do you put in in the crate? Sugar and honey or Nutella? What do you want? Uh, we’ll try Nutella. Wrong country. Yeah. What did you say? I said glasses. Oh, the wrong nasty. Yeah. Misty. What’ you get? A crate. Oh, look at that. All right. So, it’s nice and warm and very light. We got Nutella with powdered sugar on the top. Very nice. Good nuts and raisins and cranberries. Look at all that. Wow. Raisins. Look at those. Yeah, they match it and mix it with all that over there, too. Sundried tomatoes. All right, let’s go check out this area. It’s still windy and the wind is blowing those fountains. So apparently this is a castle or a palace. Felix Barrett Palace, but maybe I’m saying it. Maybe it’s Beret. Felix Beret. I don’t speak French, but anyways. It’s really pretty with these fountains here. But when the wind catches, it blows like a big spray. Another metro stop here. We’re walking everywhere. See if we can zoom in on that. They’re blowing. Michael would be happy with this happy hour. Oh boy. We’re going to keep going though. I think it’s closed anyways. Look at that woman. Just pull that fish out the bone. Look at that. Cal, what’s that? All people underneath us. I know. We’re walking. It looks like we’re walking on people. How is that possible? Not really. Hi. There we are. Hello. We’re going to start walking back on this side of the street. Tea towels. I see a lot of people collecting tea towels. like we’re going to go up here to this square. Catch our letters. Full M. All right, we’re going to walk around the museum here, but that’s a fort on the opposite side. But I guess it’s going to be very windy when you walk around this corner. What do you think, Kelly? I’m thinking so. All right, let’s check it out. Building is blocking. Maybe to get here was quite busy. Mhm. Quite blustery. It’s pretty. Pretty. Sure. We should take a peek at that. All right. We’re going to walk around this area. Taking the sights. See that wind? How I know? Look at this. Norwegian jewel in dry and this is from our cove balcony and we are in par and on the other side over here I don’t know if I can see it but I think I can isra in dry dock you see how it’s below the water cuz there is no water there it’s in dry dock a mighty garage. It is super windy again. Windy, but it’s really pretty. We’re around the museum here. Beautiful tower behind us. Just saw a boat come in. That monument that’s up over there, but it’s windy. I don’t know if you can hear me. It is. It is beautiful. I agree. I agree. All right, let’s take a photo and we’ll be on our way. We got to capture this wind. I’ll show that here. I can see the church. We’re almost back. You got to get back to the shuttle. You got to find your way back to the church. Once you find the church, you know where you are. All right, let’s check it out. There’s the museum. That building is very interesting, right? Walk across that bridge. This the tower. We walked around the other side. I didn’t notice the bridge. Very cool. So, right behind me is the hop on hop off bus. We are literally right 2 minutes away from the port area where we go get in. And right behind us is the cathedral. So, if you don’t want to go up the stairs to the cathedral, you can stay along here. Take the hop on hop off bus or walk over to the waterfront. You can stay on this road all the way back there. It’ll get you to the waterfront. That’s right. But we’re going to get back on our shuttle bus. Yes. We’re tired. We’re ready to end the day. We’re done. And we’re done. All right, let’s get back on the ship. Toodles. Bye-bye. We’re headed this way back to our shuttle. Welcome to Hubbridge Journey. We have breaking news directly from the Star Princess inaugural sailing. Our first port of call, Marcel, France. Iay. The winds were crazy all day and the crazy crazy winds are still going on. Our ship has been detained from heading off to our next port. Listen to the captain in his own words. Speaking from the bridge. Welcome back on board and uh I hope you had an enjoyable day here in Windy Marcel. I would like to give you an important announcement regarding our uh uh scheduled departure. Yesterday we took the decision to anticipate our arrival into Marcel considering the strong wind that were forecast. This allowed us to safely safely dock the vessel in advance of the strongest of the winds this morning. Unfortunately, as you have uh noticed, the wind condition outside remain strong and therefore in consultation with the port authority and local pilots. And in the interest of safety, it is not possible to depart as scheduled at 1800. The conditions, however, are expect to improve later this evening and overnight. Furthermore, sailing later will allow us will also allow the conditions on our sea passage to improve resulting in a smoother sailing towards Chiba. Next assessment with the pilots for weather condition will be around midnight which will allow us to determine the next available window to depart. We tried also to explore a possible option to extend shortly for our guests into the evening. However, due to local security restrictions, we have not been granted permission from the authorities. I do apologize for any inconvenience this delay the departure may have caused. I’m sure you can appreciate that safety is our highest priority. We are respect to arriving as per our original schedule on Tuesday. Thank you very much for your attention and u enjoy your evening on board Star Princess. Thank you. We’ve actually sailed with this captain and he is amazing. One of the best captains in the Princess fleet as far as we’re concerned and he is always looking out for the safety of his passengers, his crew, and the vessel. So, I will tell you it’s really not that tough to be stranded on the Star Princess temporarily in Marseilles. The Star Princess is not disappointed. It is amazing. It has so much going on. the delay actually works out for us. So, if you’re interested in more breaking news with Hubard’s journey, hit that subscribe button, hit that like button. Thanks for coming along on our breaking news on the inaugural Star Princess. When they got back on board, we grabbed a drink at Bellini just in time for an incredible performance in the Piaza, a husband and wife duel. Anna and Oliver, a contortionist and juggling act. They had everyone cheering. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Let’s see. You make that strawberry feel forever. Forever and ever. Oh, we got a singer back there. 9:15 Showtime with Ann and Oliver. So, what was that other liquor? That’s the vodka. The vodka. Look at that. Mixing it all together. Oh, there we go. Shake it, baby. Shake it. I got a question. How many bottles of champagne do you guys pop in one day? 50 bottles. That’s it. 50. A lot of the drinks have champagne in them, don’t they? Mostly cocktails. How is it? Tastes like ice cream. How’s yours? Real strawberry. And this man is my husband Oliver and he are service performers from Hungary. After that, it was a light dinner and drinks at Ali’s, one of the new venues on board. Good vibes, great food, and live music. Omali’s Irish Pub is one of the newest additions to Summit Princess ships, and it’s quickly becoming a guest favorite. The vibe is relaxed, cozy, and full of classic pub charm. They’ve got a great drink menu featuring cold beer and cider, smooth Irish whiskey, and rich coffees. And Ali’s own signature cocktails. I went with the Clover Breeze, and Michael tried the Spank Mint. Both were delicious. The pub menu is small but mighty. It is included with the princess plus package. And tonight I’m starting with the hut crab and artich choke dip followed by the molast wings and wrapping it up with the six layer Guinness chocolate cake. Oh, and of course complimentary chips because Michael can never say no to fries. But what really makes a shine? Live Irish music by kind ears. They bring this place to life. going to sell up next about an Irish funeral. But we know if you’re gathered to an Irish funeral, it is not a sad time. It is a time for celebration of life. It is a time where everyone gets very, very, very, very drunk. And this Oh yeah. This was called the night Pat Murphy died. I thought Patty Murphy died as a night I’ll never forget. Some of the boys got loaded drunk and they ain’t got silver yet. As long as the bottle was passed around feeling he came with a bag for We wrapped up the night at Kuner’s Bar where the atmosphere just hits right. Everyone was back onboard, But then — breaking news. The Star Princess wasn’t going anywhere. The winds were fierce, so strong the captain made the call to stay put.

Day two on the Star Princess, and what a day it turned out to be! could feel the gusts — you’d look out over the deck and see the sea churning. Safety always comes first, so the Star Princess stayed docked overnight. It wasn’t until after midnight that we finally set sail, long after most guests had called it a night.
Just another reminder that Mother Nature always has the final word — but honestly, the crew kept spirits high, and the ship felt alive with that kind of unexpected energy only a maiden voyage can bring.”

Today we’re in Marseille, France — Andrea and Kelly head into town while Michael stays onboard. We’ll show you the Princess shuttle process ($16 round trip), beautiful Marseille markets, a charming church, and a stop for local French crepes. Back onboard, we enjoy Bellini’s, a stunning contortionist and juggler show by Ana & Oliver in the Piazza, grab a bite at O’Malley’s Pub, and close out the night at Crooner’s Bar.
