Today we stepped back in time on the Selketal Railway, the oldest narrow-gauge line in the Harz Mountains of Germany. Our steam-hauled train journey through the forest and along the River Selke was pure magic — a real glimpse of classic German rail travel at its finest.
In the afternoon, we explored Quedlinburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its colourful half-timbered houses, cobbled lanes, and medieval charm. With stunning views from Quedlinburg Castle over the Harz Mountains, it truly felt like stepping into a storybook.
This unforgettable day was part of our Great Rail Journeys holiday through Germany, with wonderful hospitality at the HKK Hotel Wernigerode, our base for exploring this beautiful region.
