Japanese Ferry: WHY 12 HOURS? I Skipped the Bullet Train for a Solo Food Feast

I took the Hankyu Ferry from Kobe to Shinmoji (Fukuoka). While the ferry is slower than the bullet train, it’s a relaxing journey.

  1. "It was 4:29 p.m. I was working the evening watch out of Sumiyoshi Station. My name is Solo…I am a traveler." (Dragnet theme plays)

(Sorry…that's the vibe I get whenever I see the time thingy near the beginning of these videos.)

  2. Sorry you missed breakfast! Does not seem like you had a lot of time for it anyways. But that was really good value, that is for sure! Thank you for taking us with you!

  3. All these ferry trips are great. Room looked good for a single night and I like the fact that all these ferries seem to have facilities to bathe, pretty good food, and several vending machines. Great way to get around especially since they al seem to be in sync with buses/trains once you reach your destination.

  4. With a QR code to access the cabin, I would be screwed as I carry an old flip phone and do not wallow in the modern excess of smart phones. BTW, it is nice to see the employees again waving goodbye to the ship. thanks for pointing that out. it has been awhile since we have seen the WAVE..

  5. I don't understand the premise of being on a ship just to enjoy the food. I don't think that that food is made onboard the ship. When I was in Japan, the transit food is TOO good, too consistent, and there are too many options to choose from. It must be catered by land-side suppliers and only the final touches done onboard. So it makes sense that you should be able to get that same food on land. I'd like to see a shipboard kitchen, and if I'm right, I'd love to see a tour of the shore-based catering companies that carry out this amazing feat.

  6. Fortunately, Japan usually keeps their vending machines in good repair, or at least good notifications of problems. Had this been a US ship, I could imagine you showing the shot of the games in the arcade "These are not gambling machines.", then cutting to the vending bank…"*These* are gambling machines." πŸ™‚

  7. thank you so much for allowing us to share your journey! I am curious if the outdoor deck can be accessed at any time day or night, or if it's restricted to certain hours
