Lacoste is a magnificent medieval village in the Luberon Nature Park, located on a green hill above a vast plain. Lacoste is the village which houses the castle residence of the famous Marquis de Sade. His castle was partially destroyed in an uprising in 1779 and was later looted and plundered by locals. It was later bought by fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who partially restored it. The oldest building in the town dates back to the 9th century.
