Our First Time in JORDAN 🇯🇴 …and We’re Shocked!
Welcome to Jordan. What? I actually can’t believe that we’re here. It is our first time and wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. Yeah, we’ve always wanted to come to Jordan. We honestly never thought that we’d get the chance to actually come here and experience this place. And yeah, we’ve got some thoughts pretty quickly. Yeah, nothing could have prepared us for that feeling of landing in Aman for the very first time. So, what can we expect from our time here? Honestly, from what we’ve been told, a lot. Jordan is a place where history meets hospitality. where ancient wonders stand alongside modern life and where every experience leaves a lasting mark on the heart. So, in this series, we’re putting that to the test, traveling across the country with G Adventures to experience Jordan’s most iconic treasures. That means we finally get to see the lost city of Petra. That is incredible. Sleeping under the stars in the desert of Wadi Room. wandering through one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world. Now that we’re here, you just cannot put into words and floating at the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea. You don’t make the rules here, babe. It’s a matter, too. I’ve got really sore nipples. But after more than 30 hours of travel from New Zealand, we were honestly struggling to comprehend where we were. How about that for a landscape? You know, flying in I was like, “Oh, where is it?” Like, where where is everything? Where’s the city? Where’s the green? Where is the city? Where are the people? Where are the buildings? It was literally nothing. It was just all sand. Just flat. It looks smooth from above, but there’s these rolling mounds and stuff. And then there’s deep canyons, which obviously we’re going to see once we go into Petra. Just excited doesn’t even cut it. We’re already already chatting to a man talking about the food. We’re going to get the coffee insights, the food insights. Apparently, every meal is going to be good. I think they will take you to Petra. Yes. To visit Petra. Petra is amazing. It became from the seven wonders. Yes. It’s the new wonders, huh? After the Chinese wall, you can find Petra, the second one. So, worth worth 31 hours of travel to see. We’ll soon find out. Yeah. Welcome home. Wow. Wow. Wow. What a flipping journey that was to get here. It was. Hey, but at least we’re staying somewhere beautiful. This is the Intercontinental in Aman and I’m loving it. G Adventures doesn’t mess around when it comes to the hotel rooms. The contrast so far. I know. Crazy. From what was flat we originally said, why I said in a car, I think then you start to see some of the rolling hills and then some of these just outrageous buildings and architecture. I just cannot wrap my head around just yet. Some of it is really old school. Some of it is brand new but built to look old school. And then some of it is just modern and crazy glass and I don’t know. It’s just a lot. It’s a sensory overload. I also think we’re just a bit delirious. We’re going to reset. Every single human we have met has been so lovely and accommodating. Incredible conversations in English as well. Like they’ve been hyping up the food a lot. So, I’m really excited for the food. We thought we had to try it. Then straight away we got a recommendation for a really local place that has the best schwama apparently. Yes. No English, no idea what we ordered, but we have a bag. We have some bits and bobs and it smells really good. So expectations are high. People outside the reviews were saying you won’t have a better one in a man. And it was only Are you saying that it’s like one of the oldest places that you can actually get this year? I think so. Yeah. And it was 2.8 dinar. I don’t even know what that is right now in my head, but I can tell you what it’s cheap. Just trying to get ourselves a drink, but we don’t recognize this Matrix brand. I don’t know what any of this is. Pepsi 7 up. That’s That’s normal. Okay, we Well, we’re also tempted by a a beer. So, let’s see. Let’s see the other fridge. Apparently, the beer here is delicious, but I don’t know if this kind of place would just sell it. Is that beers on the top right? I don’t know. Champions League something. Malt beverage. We’re about to walk home. No luck with the beer. That’s fine. We can we can lay off that. But I have to try this on the side of the road now cuz we’re about to walk past it again. And I said to Stace, “If it’s delicious, I’m going to want another one.” So check this out first. Come down here, my love. Have a look. Tomato, onion, I’m assuming like you reckon tatsiki yogurt. some kind of yogurt. I would never normally bite it from the side. I know that’s really weird, but that’s probably going to get the most flavor. So, I’ll start there. [Music] Is it actually good or are we just We love it. Nod your head if you love it. There is this intense richness to it. I think we’re starving. I see what you’re saying. And I don’t know what it’s from. M. What is it? I can’t I’m not very good at working that stuff out. You’re better at figuring out flavors and stuff. I took a huge mouthful. Sorry. Okay. Maybe I’m Is it a hummus or something? Probably on the bottom maybe. I think it is just everything together. Like the meat is got that nice chariness, but then the bread’s super fresh. The veggies are delicious. The sauces are out of this world. What the heck? That is so flavorsome. I think I might actually get one more for the road. [Music] and seriously delicious, which is lucky because eating and drinking our way through a new place is kind of our thing. All right, it is a new day. We’re not as delirious. We’re awake. We had a good rest and we’re ready to see more of a man. So, we’ve come to Rainbow Street as our first stop. It’s actually the oldest street in Aman. It is full of restaurants and shops and cafes, which is kind of why we decided to start here cuz we needed some coffee. Definitely. So, we asked our taxi driver. We were like, “What’s the local coffee?” And he was like, “Dordanian style is kind of Turkish.” And interestingly, we’ve been to two cafes and they all list it as Turkish coffee. Not local coffee, not Jordanian coffee. It’s Turkish. It’s so hot. That’s too much. But we wanted to do a comparison. Uh, and also it’s really hot. We got an ice latte. How good does that look? I also wanted to see what the standard like our style milk style cafe Latte cafe coffee would be maybe I’m not right yet. Oh, there’s some latte out there. Mine’s good. Milky M. But a good coffee flavor. Not too bitter. That’s what I always worry about with the iced ones, but that’s actually very darn. I wouldn’t say this is bitter, but it’s definitely a dark roast, which doesn’t surprise me considering I’m Turkish is their standard go-to. I’m going to risk my life, my mouth, and my taste buds while this is still lava. Crazy thing is there’s a smell, man. I don’t We think it’s cardamom. Yeah, it’s really hot. It tastes like it smells. It’s not my style. Am I allowed to say that? Sorry. I’m This coffee is really good. I’m happy with that. [Music] Experience. So, I was supposed to get some change. I just said keep the coins. It’s okay. So, it was two dinner for a water and two waffle sandwiches. I literally just said two, please. Oh, we haven’t even explained, have we? I think that’s the only thing that they sell. Yeah, that’s what I figured as well. So, this place has been running since 1966. States did some research to find the place that has the best falafel on this rainbow street. I think it’s pretty simple. Is that green? I can’t tell the colors. Yes, it’s a pickle. I think you should try it. This is more your thing. Not if you’re enjoying it. This is definitely my vibe. I would say that the bread is more pardini style the way that it’s been like pressed in a sandwich maker. You can see like the lines on it. Yeah, falafel is like the most delicious flavor. It’s not too oily. It’s fresh with the tomato in there. Again, I don’t know what the sauce is, but it’s it’s doing good things. Speaking of good things, that’s what brought us to Jordan in the first place was to go to the GX Summit by G Adventures. It celebrates all things community tourism and some serious feelood vibes about helping locals through travel. We’ve done five tours with G now and we love that they genuinely care about supporting the people and communities you visit. Like we shared from our trips from Vietnam, Peru, and Bolivia. So on this trip, and spoiler alert, we’re going to Egypt next. We get the feeling that we’re going to see lots of smiling, happy people that have had their lives changed through travel. Happy birthday to you. Woo! All right. All right. You want to do We’ve officially started our tour, our G tour now, and we’ve come to Gash. This is one of the most wellpreserved Roman ruins in the entire world, and is actually in Jordan. I want to make it seem like we knew that that was true. We knew there was some Roman ruins here, but we never quite understood how significant that was. And now that we’re here, I just you just cannot put into words. This is crazy. How How is this real? I got to call myself out. I’ve said crazy 500 times in this vlog, but this is legit crazy. How is this real? It feels like a movie set or something, not like it something that used to be used back in the day. Tell you about Jes starting from here. First ruins that we have uh that they are related to Jesus site more than 10,000 years like BC. During different period, it took like different let’s say shape. So when you go up and take a nice photo, you see like how accurate are the measurements between those columns. And this is one of the amazing things that is like very well known about the Romans that they had like very accurate measurements between like the columns in this kind of yard. [Music] [Applause] Yeah, it’s not just, you know, one entrance gate. It is huge. We’ve already learned that there are actually two entrance gates, north and the south, and literally goes for as far as the eye can see. I’m looking forward to afterwards going into this. Here is the hippo drone where they used to do like the horse chariot racing. No, thank you, sir. And uh they got here they do actually they do an experience. I’m not quite sure when that is where they kind of do reenactments and stuff inside the hippodrome. It’s probably obvious by now one of the themes that we’re picking up is contrast. So that is the city and then you just wheel around over here and you’ve just got yeah the old city. But can you can you see Oh sorry that’s my finger all the way down there right up over the back right up into these hills here. It just keeps going. Cats everywhere. E, they’re so cute cuz they’re little as well. Well, this is the theater, huh? Let’s see what this bad boy looks like inside. This is where the gladiators must have been, right? He’s been trying to find where the gladiators where the gladiators. Wow, look at that. I wonder if there’s Must be right. Look. I wonder if there’s an echo in one of these situations. You know, sometimes that’s the case. So, we’ll find out. a little bit. So you can imagine that until now they are still using like the sound elements that you can see. One of them is this spot. So you can feel like the echo in your voice. You can try it if you want. You can say anything. See at this point it’s safe to say Jordan has surprised us and we’ve learned so much about this beautiful country in just a few days. And after experiencing our first G for good moment from this tour, she’s about to tell you her story or their story how they started and how they’re doing so far. We’ve learned even more about the people and Jordanian hospitality. Well, I think we’ve learned Jordanians know how to put on a show. how to party. They know good music. They know how to dance. Smiles, vibes, yahoos and everything. Hey, and then the food. Look at this bread that we’ve got. Made with lots of local ingredients. It’s got heaps of fresh salad, loads of breads, and then we asked what this was. It’s a chicken dish. [Applause] some mystery balls in there. We’re not 100% sure, but we’ve got all sorts of treats on the table as well. And man, this is I cannot wait for this. We also cannot wait to discover more of Jordan with you over the next few videos. Starting off next week with finally seeing one of the new seven wonders of the world, Petra. [Music] [Music]
