This time we are in Val Thorens. We will show you that it is not only skiing, but also a party destination with a lot of off-piste content. We will also show the prices of some contents, and you will receive a lot of other useful information. There on the map we can see the layout of the trails in relation to the center of the town. Beneath Val Thorens itself is another related place, Les Manuires. On the upper left, we can see the lift that leads to Meribel and further to Courchevel, and all this together makes one big ski resort of the Three Valleys. In Europe, this is the resort located at the highest altitude, at 2,300 m, which guarantees plenty of snow, so even during our stay, while it was snowing there, it was raining in the lower regions. The place is criss-crossed by these trails, so 90% of accommodations have ski …, oops , a man fell, here he is alive, 90% of accommodations have ski in ski out options. These are mainly apartments in these tall, large buildings. There are very few hotels compared to the number of apartments, but you can find all kinds of accommodation. Here we come to the road now . Any normal person would take off their boards, ski and cross the road. I’m really embarrassed to say how I crossed. But in any case, it continues on and we continue along this narrow road, let’s say the path. Here we come out onto the large main central plateau. We can see that the plateau is practically flat, with a very small slope, which makes it ideal for learning to ski. So you see a lot of ski schools here and a lot of beginners. It’s very lively on that plateau, especially since all these surrounding, or almost all the surrounding trails, from this upper part of the ski resort, flow onto that central plateau. And then you can go further to these first lifts, down to Les Menuirs and continue on. We pass the plateau and take the first chairlift that takes us back across the village to the foot of this peak in front, which we can see straight ahead. There on the right we can see very nicely how many people, skiers, are descending the surrounding trails and flowing into the central part of the village. As for these apartments that we see on the left and right sides, in fact in the entire settlement, the apartments were built, most of these apartments were built in the 70s for the French middle class. Well then we can imagine what they look like. They are too small for today’s standards. When you take an apartment for six people, or when the agency offers an apartment for six people, it is an ideal apartment for four people. If the apartment is offered for four people, it is ideal for two. I will give an example of our apartment, it is 39 square meters in size and the agency offers it for six people. However, it is an apartment that fits optimally for four people. This is exactly the reason why accommodation in France is cheaper than similar accommodation in Italy or Austria. In fact, it is very difficult to find a similar one, because the apartments in Austria and Italy are much larger. Here, agencies contract and subcontract accommodation with private landlords. If there are 20 identical apartments in a big house, in fact each apartment is completely differently equipped and of a different level of quality. You have to be a little lucky there. The total ski package, ski pass together with accommodation, in France is much cheaper than what can be found in Austria and Italy. That’s why it’s always a good idea to book accommodation through an agency because the agency gets special discounts for the ski pass, and probably a better price for accommodation. So, the recommendation is to always book accommodation in France through an agency. Especially because the journey is very long and it’s not worth coming for three or four days like we can do in Italy and Austria. Here, if you’ve come this far, there’s really no point in staying for less than seven days. On the left we see the Les Balcons apartments. We stayed in them this time too. They are located in the upper part of the resort at 2400 m above sea level. We continue on this chairlift and come to perhaps the biggest attraction in Val Thorens, which is the La Folie Douce club. Many young people from all over Europe, and even the world, come to Val Thorens just for this club. Even some non-skiers learn to ski for a day and come here, just so they can be here, and so they can then go down from this place down this red trail to the center of town. [applause] For many partygoers, this is where the real problems arise. When the party is over, you have to go downstairs, which is, if you’re a beginner, or you just learned it yesterday or today skiing and you have to go down the red slope, that’s a big problem. That’s why it’s a real spectacle in the evening to be there and watch people go down this slope. There are those who go down on skis, boards, most of them go down normally. However, a number of people have huge problems. Then they fall, they go down on their skis, some slide, roll , roll on their asses. In any case, the goal is to get to the center of the town where the club life continues . All the bars are open and work until the morning hours. The second most famous après ski bar 360 is located near the village itself. And we continue exploring the ski slopes that are a little further from the center of the village. We start with the peak located at 3,000 m, Grand Fond. There we are greeted by a slightly stronger wind with snow drifts. Visibility is slightly worse than in the lower part of the slopes, and you will see how poor visibility can cause big problems . Come on, it’s possible. Oops, what is this, Visibility is excellent. We almost ended up on these rocks. But okay, visibility is not that bad, we noticed everything in time. We descend towards the valley, towards the lower part of the valley. On the right we see Les Manuirs. The wire we see above, or rather the wire we are passing under now, is the Cime Caron gondola. It leads to the highest peak in Val Thorens, 3,200 m, with a fantastic view of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains. However, we were unlucky, our whole time, the week we were here, not once did that gondola work due to strong winds, probably snow. What we noticed around us, a lot of falls, oops, it happens to us too. It happens to the best. There was some accumulation of snow, and these are skis with a small rocker, a small bend, and when you get stuck in that kind of snow, there is no help. Luckily, there were no injuries and we continue on. We descend to the Caron gondola, which takes us to 2,300 m. At the top of this gondola, this beautiful view opens up. In front of us is Val Thorens. And now we decide to go to these trails to the right of Val Thorens. Here we turn left and beautiful wide trails will open up to us , one of the most beautiful things you can experience while skiing, wide trails with a beautiful view. This is a pleasure and a feast for the eyes. Once again we climb the gondola to the same peak, but this time at this sign we do not go left but continue straight. Here new panoramas and new beautiful views open up to us again . It is truly an incredible pleasure to cruise along this part of the trail. The trail is somewhat narrower, but it is beautiful. There are no crowds, no people, you can enjoy the total beauty. We encounter a gust of wind again. It sounds scary, but it looks beautiful. We slowly descend again, to the center of town. We pass this central plateau and come to the Peclet gondola, which will take us to almost 3,000 m, to be exact 2944 m. Here we see the possibility of two trails on the right, one on the left. However, each of these trails later branches into multiple trails, so this gondola can take up to half a day to cover all the trails that go from this peak. I didn’t mention it before, but Val Thorens has 150 km of trails. With neighboring ski resorts, with Meribel, with Courchevel, so with the neighboring two valleys, there are a total of 600 km of trails. This makes this ski area the largest ski resort in the world with connected trails. A ski pass can be purchased only for Val Thorens, but it can be purchased for all three valleys. We paid only 40 EUR more for our ski pass for all three valleys, for a week, than for Val Thorens alone. We now decided to go through the center of town and go to the lower part of the valley and ski a little in that part. But before that, considering that we are passing through this center where there are a lot of restaurants, bars and everything, we will take a little break, and this is the right time to show you what the prices are in these places, and not to talk, here are a few price lists and judge for yourself what the prices are. In fact, I can say that the prices are much higher compared to the usual or average ski resorts in Italy and Austria . We continue along this narrow path to this lower part of the valley, to the place of Les Manuirs. There we take the Pointe de la Masse gondola, which takes us to 2,800 m to the peak of the same name, from where there is a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains, the Alpine peaks. The view reaches all the way to Mont Blanc. A beautiful place to take photos, to enjoy. I lost the rest of the team somewhere there so I continue alone, but alone or not, this is breathtaking. And speaking of breathtaking, on several occasions at these heights, I felt the loss of breath. Looking at this right red trail, I see that there are a lot of hupsers and in the moment I make the decision to go left, it seems like a much better trail, the blue one. And I was not wrong. Please, Hello! So here I am descending this hill from above. What, where are you? Come on, nothing, I’ll wait for you somewhere down there. Come on, bye! The agreement was made to meet at the bottom of the trail. I continue on and come to this excellent position from which the entire valley can be seen. There we see the place Les Manuires, we see these trails up above it. And behind the hill there, we can reach the next valley, Maribel, over the hill. I continue on and up to the left we also see the place Val Thorens. It’s very convenient to see all these places in the valley from one place. I continue on this small trail and come to some educational trail. What is a Friendly Natural Park? It’s a prank for kids. Another entrance. This is actually an educational trail where the animals that live in this area are presented. A little exercise is good, otherwise this trail would become boring. After these tunnels, the last boxing series and that would be the fun on this trail . On the right side it is red, on the left side it is black, although the slope is of the same slope. The only reason it could be a black track is because the track is unkempt. There is that part I was talking about , that is, the red path continues on the left, and we go to the right. And that path is marked as black. Someone also set up the Veleslanon track, so we will use it. And how black and dangerous this trail is is being told to us by this group of skiers in front of us, it’s obvious that it’s a ski school, and people may have put on skis for the first time yesterday and here they are already descending down the black trail . Two days of heavy snow, wind and very difficult skiing conditions followed , but that didn’t stop us. No surrender. I see that this weather didn’t stop other skiers from going out on the trails either, not even these beginners. And we see these ballet dancers here. This is a ski instructor . Visibility is zero. If it weren’t for this good man in front of me, in black, who knows where I would have ended up. And when the weather on the trail isn’t the best, it’s the right time to visit these bars. So we enter one of the two igloo bars, which are located next to the trail . Both the previous igloo bar and this restaurant are located only a few hundred meters above the settlement itself, but in the path itself. It should be said that this is only a service restaurant and that the prices in it are slightly lower than in other establishments because there are no waiters.
