24 Hours In Munich, Germany

Some destinations are just fun to visit. Whether it’s quaint beer gardens, rowdy festivals, or tranquil parks, Munich is a destination for just about every type of traveler. Munich is situated in the southeast of Germany, capital of the state of Bavaria. First, we’ll stop at the Theresan Visa to experience the first day of Oktoberfest. Next, we’ll climb to the top of the bell tower at the nearby St. Paul’s Church. Then, it’s on to the Marion Plats to see the old town before wandering the Huff Garden. We’ll end the day with a delicious meal in one of the city’s best places to get schnitzle. It’s a celebration unlike any other. Part traditional Bavarian festival, part funfair, and all centered around the world’s greatest beverage. Bringing in crowds of more than 7 million people per year, Oktoberfest is the largest Vulks fest on Earth. And the first day of the Viss is far and away the most interesting. Held to the Terresian visa and the center of Munich. It’s a short 20-minute walk from the old town and easy to find. With all the signs and the giant ferris wheel, if you still can’t find it, just follow the church. Even getting there a solid 3 hours before they crack open the good stuff, the crowds have started pouring in, securing their spots in the tents. At this point, the main courses are still cooking and the Steines are being sanitized, but you can stop for a light Bavarian snack. Delicious. Speaking of traditional Bavaria, at the end of the ground stands the Bavaria statue. Standing over 60 feet tall and cast of solid bronze, this majestic symbol of Bavaria silently watches over the attendees as they try not to launch all their chicken and beer from the nearby carne rides. At 11:00, the festival truly begins. The October Fest parade marches right down the center of Theres and Visa, led first by the Munch Kindle or the Munich Child, then followed by horsedrawn parade floats, traditional marches and marching bands. Each of these groups is headed to their own individual tent to arrive by 12 for the tapping of the first keg. These tents all represent a different brewery and have their own unique design and color scheme. At exactly 12:00, the first keg is tapped and October Fest is in full swing. Heat. Heat. Hallelujah. Overlooking the festival grounds is St. Paul’s. Once you’re sober, climb to the top of the church’s bell tower to get some of the best views of the city. Back in the old town, the various capital shines as an example of integrating history with the modern day. The main square of the old town, the Marin Plats, retains the Gothic architecture for its town hall and churches while being a home for a modern shopping plaza. While there aren’t really any must-see sites here, the Marion Plats makes up for that by being a very picturesque and pedestrian-friendly shopping center. There’s fewer tour groups, and only the Glocken Spiel seems to attract any real attention. Munich is home to several parks and gardens and among our favorites is the Huff Garden. Sitting directly behind the resident’s mention, this lovely garden sees mostly families and locals slowing the pace and enjoying the park. From breweries to beer gardens, there’s almost no shortage of great places to eat. But if you’re in the mood for schnitle, there’s one place to go. Widely regarded as one of the best places to get schnitle in all of Munich, Andy’s Crabler Garden almost always has a line and then a very long wait once seated. But it’s more than worth it. So relax, grab a beer, and get ready for an excellent meal. The champagnit with its outstanding creamy mushroom sauce is my personal favorite. Perhaps best summed up as a crowd-pleaser of a destination, Munich is the kind of place that’s just hard not to like. There’s something for everybody here. And whatever you’re looking to get out of your trip, this city gladly delivers. Thank you.
