Casa Batlló – Barcelona Spain – ECTV

Hey everybody, this is Eric Clark’s Travel Videos and I’m in Barcelona, Spain and I’m at Cass Cassa Batlo Bat Batau. Anyway, I don’t know if you pronounce the L’s. Anyway, it’s a pretty amazing place. It’s done by Antonio Gaudy and it’s incredible. I’m going to take you inside and show you everything I can. Let me show you the outsides first. Here we go. So, you can tell the outside of the building is just perfect for Antonio Gaudy. I mean, it’s just look at the porches. Look at the balconies. Look at the even the the columns. They’re they’re all different and kind of weird looking and stuff. Even the porches are kind of crazy. And the little flower up on top of the tower up there is pretty amazing. But this is uh you can see it. Casa Batlo Batlo Antonio Gaudy. And that’s it. So, I’m going to take you inside and show you the way. And off to the races we go. I’ll be back. Okay, everybody. This is Casa Batlo and this is the entrance way. And so it’s uh it’s pretty interesting and different for sure. I mean, you can see the artwork and everything else. Yeah, certainly unique and different. Huh. And all the little things he stuck all over the walls, which is pretty crazy, but uh interesting. Sorry. And the lights he uses too is kind of different. And then you go this way. And I think you have to Oh, you walk up the stairs. Oh, and if you you can get an audio guide for free. And so you can even see his stairs are different and his pottery is different. And look at his lights. They’re kind of different, too. But but a lot of these people have tour guys and so or the tour earpieces that talk about uh everything. But I don’t get those. I’m just here to show you pictures. If I was listening to those and trying to take pictures and everything else, we would never get through any part of this. And again, the lights are amazing cuz they’re like skylights. What’s this? Oh, you can’t go that way. That’s the gold ticket. I And I didn’t realize that there were so many different types of tickets. There’s like a a bronze and then a silver and then a blue and then a gold or something or a platinum. And it’s it’s quite funky actually. And you can see all the people with the headphones on. And look at his little fireplace here, too. See little fireplace? That’s pretty amazing. But the shape of it is pretty amazing, too. So, there’s little benches in there. All the doors are funny shapes, too. Excuse me. Sorry. And look at the shape of the doors. They’re even curved. Not only are they curved that way, but they’re also curved up and downwise. And the doors match, too. It’s crazy. And these are the pillars I showed you from the street, which are pretty crazy. And look at the wall. The whole wall is curved and unique and unusual and everything else. But this whole thing opens up, too. So, it’s pretty amazing. And look at the roof. It’s a swirl. It swirls around the light, which is pretty amazing. Yeah. Wow. And then inside it’s the same thing. I’ll be right back. There’s so many groups and so many tours that it gets crowded and so it’s hard to take it all in. And it’s hard cuz I I feel rushed. I want to get past the past all the crowds, but yet you don’t want to miss anything either. That’s pretty amazing. Anyway, and it’s interesting because those look like they open up to the outside, too. The little tiny things down here. Look at the door. The door is pretty amazing, too. And here’s his house back in the old days. If I get the glare off there, you could see it. Interesting. And the lights are interesting, too. Yeah, he he certainly had a different view or perception of what things should be or could be. Even the little stage here, I mean, it’s a little curved weird stage. Cool. I’m just looking here. And this is And look at the lights coming through. This little orange one up here is too. That’s pretty amazing. Sorry. I’ll get my camera out of the way. I try to take pictures for everybody, but Wow. And I don’t know why these people are going this way. What a mess. This is what it looks like from the outside, from the street. And you can see the little balconies and everything else, which is cool. And this is that thing on top of the roof. I took a picture of that earlier, too. Wow, man. I have no idea how this all goes. Seven. Eight. And look at the hallway. It’s all rippled. I mean, it’s like a roof, but you see how it’s like curved and stuff. And even up on top there, you can see the ripple right up there on both sides. It’s like a ribbon almost. Huh. I don’t know which way to go. I guess this way. Oh, I guess they both kind of lead to the same place. Let’s do outside, I guess. Oh, and it’s like a little pond. Oh, and that’s glass, so you can see through it and get light through it. Wow. And look at the tunnel. So, instead of having a square awning, he has a round one. And it’s all made out of steel. It’s not wood. This stuff ain’t going nowhere. And look at the wall. Those are all lights, I think. Huh. How amazing is that? Wow. And the top of his fence. Look at this. And here’s the back side of the building. Wow. Pretty amazing. All right, I’ll be back. Even his fence. So, this is his fence to the house, so nobody can get into his yard or into the house, actually. This is his fence, and it’s curved and shaped funny. And even the balconies are kind of funny. Certainly amazing. And the reflection is pretty cool, too, if you get it down close enough. Yeah, it doesn’t pick it up very well. Pretty amazing. He really had a unique vision, didn’t he? And look at the little fence post, I guess, or support fence, I don’t know. And they’re all just smooth tiles. H. Wow. How do you be a neighbor to Gaudy? This is his house inside. And his staircase is pretty amazing, too, isn’t it? Can you see the wall how it ripples? There’s a unique shaped window. Thank you. And look at his chair. It sits two, but they’re back to back kind of, which is kind of unique. Okay. You can’t go that way. I think I came in here. I think it’s pretty confusing. Bless you. Is it this way? And look at the little door here. I don’t know what that little door goes to, but Is that an elevator? Yeah, it looks like an elevator. So, we put an elevator in his house and those are the doors to the elevator. Interesting. And I think that’s the end of it. I think that’s what you get to see. Now, he did this mineral water machine, too. And it looks really modern. No, I’m just kidding. Okay. Bye, everybody. Okay, everybody. I think I thought the gift shop was going to be the end of it, but I I asked the guy and he says, “No, you can get to the roof.” So I guess you have to just keep climbing stairs. Wow. Yeah, I think I missed I thought there was a Wow. Huh. Amazing. Okay. Visit. So, the blue visit. Let’s see if these people will get out of the way and I’ll take a picture. I think maybe Hello. Okay. Oh, in the bathroom. Smells like a bathroom. An exhibition. Welcome to the Heritage of Tomorrow exhibition. Okay, whatever. Huh? We don’t care about any of this, is it? That’s amazing, huh? You got to watch your head here. And Gaudi’s roof. Wow. Amazing. These are all chimneys. They heat the house for all the fireplaces. Pretty amazing, huh? Oh, and you can buy snacks and treats and you can see all the chimneys. Huh? Wow. Look at this wall back here. That’s pretty amazing. Wow. Let’s get over to the other side. Oh, you can’t do the crosswalk. And that wall’s amazing. All right, lady. Oh, and there’s the thing you see from the street, the flower up there. Everybody’s waiting in line for a picture, I think. Where’s the line start and stop? We’re just all here. All right. Anyone else? Yes. After you. Wow. Thank you. Pretty amazing. Thank you. Who else? Okay. Well, all of you but not at this time. Let me snipe right by the hair. Sorry. Go ahead. No, go ahead. All right. Wow. Pretty amazing. Very amazing. Cool. And you can see the people down there in line. Wow. Very cool. All right. I’m going to take a selfie. I’ll be back. All right, everybody. That’s it for um Gaudi’s Balto Bau. Anyway, it’s pretty amazing place. Definitely worth seeing. Definitely expensive, but uh you don’t see things like this every day. That’s it for me everybody. Bye-bye.

Casa Batlló (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈkazə βəˈʎːo] ⓘ) is a building in the center of Barcelona, Spain. It was designed by Antoni Gaudí, and is considered one of his masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí (but the actual construction works hadn’t begun at this point) and has been refurbished several times since. Gaudí’s assistants Domènec Sugrañes i Gras, Josep Canaleta and Joan Rubió also contributed to the renovation project.

The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It is located on the Passeig de Gràcia in the Eixample district, and forms part of a row of houses known as the Illa de la Discòrdia (or Mansana de la Discòrdia, the “Block of Discord”), which consists of four buildings by noted Modernista architects of Barcelona.[1]

Like everything Gaudí designed, Casa Batlló is only identifiable as Modernisme in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, has unusual tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work. There are few straight lines, and much of the façade is decorated with a colorful mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadís). The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí’s home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon.

In 2005, Casa Batlló became an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
