Santorini Greece πŸ‡¬πŸ‡· – 3 Days of Exploration 🍷πŸ₯—

[Music] In this episode, we visit the world famous Blue Domes of Santorini, enjoy amazing meals, visit an ancient archaeological site, a black sand beach, and lots and lots of wineries. [Music] But first, we have to take the ferry from Mkos to Santorini. We waited at the ferry station. ferry arrived, did an amazing spin turn, backed right up to the dock. They let off a whole bunch of other cars, and on one ramp, people were going off, and we were on the onbound ramp. We each had to drag our own bag and our backpack into the ferry. There was a place designated for bags. We left our bags there and then we headed in to go to the ticket checker. Right on queue there was a ticket checker and they sent us up to the passenger area which turned out to be really nice. We finally found our seats and settled in for about a 2 and 1/2 hour ride. Then it was time to go downstairs, line up as I spun the boat around because these fairies don’t fool around. You get off and you get on and you go. It’s all very quick. There we were. Santorini. [Music] We headed across the ferry terminal and found our bus and took an immediate stop at a wine museum and tasting. The name of this winery was Greek to me. After we got inside, checked out the shop, we headed down into the museum part, which was in the old caves. [Music] They had all sorts of history down there from all the various wine presses and examples, different equipment used and little samples of the area. And really, it was pretty cool just to walk through and see some of the old wine making equipment, old barrels, even the old wines. This section held a lot of artifacts and information about Greek wine making. And then it was time to get back above ground and enjoy a Greek wine tasting. White wines were the best here. After exploring the museum, we went to our hotel and got checked in. Explored the grounds just a little bit. [Music] had time to get settled in, take a little break before we went to dinner and enjoyed an amazing meal at Mama’s Restaurant. [Music] After we finished eating, had a few minutes to just explore around in the neighborhood. It was a really cool place. This morning we’re walking through Ia, the most picturesque village on Santorini. [Music] When people picture Greece, this is the image that comes to mind. whitewashed buildings perched on cliffs overlooking the Aian Sea and those unmistakable blue domes catching the light. The blue domes you see are part of the churches that crown the cliffside village of Ia. These are classic viewpoints that have become icons of the entire Greek islands. [Music] Kia isn’t just about blue domes. It’s also one of the best shopping spots in all the Santorini. The narrow lanes are filled with tiny boutiques, art galleries, and jewelry shops. Each one tucked into one of those whitewashed buildings. [Music] Ia was nearly destroyed by an earthquake in the 1950s, but in the 1970s, artists rebuilt it, turning ruins into one of the most beautiful villages in Greece. Hotel Atlantis and the cathedral beside it tell Santorini’s story. faith, endurance, and the beauty rising again after the earthquake that once shattered this cliffside down. [Music] Nestled near Ia, Domain Sigalus is one of Santorini’s top wineries. Since 1991, Parasigulus has been crafting exceptional wines from the volcanic island soils, especially the crisp, mineral-rich Aiko. Visitors can tour the vineyard, sample a variety of estate wines, including the sweet sundried Vincanto. [Music] [Music] The minor are the ones that rule the trade all over the Mediterranean Sea and they control the trade all over. 1,600 BC when this volcano erupts they have estimated that a tsunami was created that reached the coast of Cree which is approximately 100 nautical miles away within a span of 15 minutes destroying everything destroying the whole fleet of the Minoan civilization destroyed of course what we know as the Aian civilization and then the decline started but because of the volcanic eruption the place that we’re about to visit was covered in thick layers of volcanic ash and helped preserve the place in a magnificent state. The town was called Acriteri, often referred to as the Pompei of Greece, although no bodies were found. They felt like the people were able to get out of this area before the volcano erupted. [Music] Our next stop is Parisa Beach on Santorini’s east coast. Known for its dramatic volcanic sand and sparkling blue waters, it’s perfect for sunbathing or a peaceful stroll. Lined with cafes and bars, Parisa comes alive by day and glows at sunset. [Music] Well, we made it to the beach in Santorini. It’s a black sand beach, although I don’t know if it’s really sand. And it’s more like little rocks. It’s all volcanic. Being on a volcanic island, that makes perfect sense. Water’s nice and cool. Super clear. A lot of fun. Had a great meal. I got a couple minutes where we’re back to the next winery. [Music] We took a short drive and headed to the next winery, Santo Wines. [Music] It was a beautiful winery in a beautiful location built directly on the cliff edge of the caldera. The wine was good, but the views, they were amazing. [Music] Our time in Santorini was coming to an end, but not before one final amazing meal at Pelican Kipos Cafe and wine restaurant. Tucked in a lush garden in Fra, we enjoyed a delicious mix of Greek and Mediterranean dishes. Each plate prepared to perfection. staff were friendly and attentive, making our visit truly special.
