Provence (part 3)

Hello and welcome back to Andian Tour. In September 2024, we have spent two weeks on holiday in Province, France. We have chosen Avenue as a starting point for our excursions into the surrounding area. In addition to Avenue, we decided to visit the following places. Nim, Ponduga, Valance, Colorado, Proal, Rosio, Gord Liil, Turorg, and Lei. On our way back home, we stopped off at the famous wine region of Armitage and used Turo as a base for our next excursions. Today we start with part three of my series and focus on the Colorado Proal Ros and G. So let’s get the show started. Have fun. Start of the circular trail to the Colorado Pomalta. The Colorado Promosal impresses with its colorful ochre rock. The ground, the walls, the rocks and cliffs glow in beautiful reddish, yellowish and white colors. The beauty of the landscape can be explored very nicely on a circular trail. Awesome. Heat. Heat up here. The circular trail continues to the elevated viewpoint. Heat. Heat. We then continued to the small village of Hion which is rated as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is also located on an ochre cliff and used to thrive on ochre mining in the past. Today, most of the approximately 1,300 inhabitants make their living from the 120,000 tourists who flock to the village every year. Heat. Heat. Thank you. You make it up. that I don’t want to What are you doing? Not far from Roson lies the village of Gorta. This village perched on a rock is also rated as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It has got approximately 1,600 inhabitants. In contrast to Roson, the buildings here are made of gray and sand colored stone. A beautiful walking tour of the village takes you along some steep and narrow streets. Heat. Heat. I don’t know. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat.

In September 2024 we’ve spent 2 weeks in the Provence in south of France. We used Avignon as our hub as we had found accommodation there. From there we made excursions on a daily base. Avignon has got two landmarks : the Pope’s palace and Pont Bénezet which most of the people in the world knows from children’s song “Sur le pont d’Avignon”.

Close to Avignon is Villeneuve-les-Avignon with its nice medieval fort and abbey of St.André.

Further excursions took us westerly to world famous roman aqueduct “Pont du Gard” and the city of Nimes with its famous roman arena.

East of Avignon we’ve found interesting places too : in the Colorado Provencale you can find ground in different shades of ocre (from yelloish to reddish). A pictoresc town with buildings coloured in ocre shades can be found on top of a hill : Roussillon – really worth to be visited !

Another beautiful village sitting on top of a hill is “Gordes”.

And just around the corner you find an abbey (“Notre dame de Sénanque”) which can be found on thousands of post cards – always surrounded by blooming lavender.

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a small town known for their channels and water wheels which once provided power for the craftsmen in town. Because of the many channels it was called “Venice of Comtat”.

Finally “Le Village des Bories” consist of a certain number of buildings from 17th and 18th century. They were made by farmers and were build only by using flat stones. No cement , no mortar has been used (reminds me of Trullis in Italy).

On our way back home we made a stopover in the famous wine region “Hermitage” in the Rhone Valley. Tournon-sur-Rhone , Tain l’Hermitage and Valence have been visited. A further must-do is a train ride with the “Train de l’Ardeche” along the river of Ardeche and beautiful landscape.

This video (part 3 of our journey) is focussing on Colorado Provencal and the picturesque villages of Roussillon and Gordes which belong to the most beautiful villages of France. Part 1 (focussing on Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon) and part 2 (focussing on Pont du Gard and Nimes) have already been issued. The other spots will follow soon….
