Fethiye & Ölüdeniz Turkey – Worth Visiting?!

[Music] Hey guys, this morning we’re gone an adventure in a national park here in Turkey. It’s called Sacllant National Park. And uh what’s behind us, babe? Well, this mighty gorge. So, it’s famous for the Zakan Gorge, which is one of the um I think the largest canyons in Turkey. It’s like 18 km long and 300 m deep. And uh yeah, looks super exciting. How much was it to get in? It was 65 L per person to get in and we had to spend I think was it 100 L to park? Yeah. So, we drove here so parking was 100 L. The first part of the track is very suitable for children apparently and for adults. And then after that, you sort of need a guide um to go. So, I think we might try and do that today. But it’s already amazing and we just got through the front [Music] entrance. So, people come here just to hike like we’re sort of doing right now. You can actually canoe somewhere, not quite sure where. And the other cool thing, uh which we’re most likely going to do today, is river trekking. And that’s where Jen mentioned earlier that we’re going to need to hire a guide because they know where to trek in the river and all that kind of stuff. And the water is supposed to be really, really cold. It comes from an underground spring somewhere. So even in the middle of the summer, the water is really, really cold. Like feet numbingly cold apparently. And I believe before April, like now we should be about done because we’re here the end of March. Um, it is more rushing water because the snow is melting at the top of the mountain and that is adding to the river’s flow. But that should be almost over now, they said. Yeah, but the cold water, no big deal. We’re Canadian. [Music] [Music] [Music] Okay, now that’s really cool. They got the picnic tables and benches in the freezing cold water coming out of the mountains. And there is um some restaurants, little cafe. I think one of them is open right now. Um yeah, so I’m assuming in the summertime there’s a gelato place. Assuming all of this is open for all of the tourists and this is already looking absolutely amazing. It’s actually dizzying looking all the way to the top. This is going to be epic. And these benches in the water look fantastic. Okay, so it’s not very far that you can actually walk until we hit this sign that says that we are forbidden to enter. Um, now we did get a tip from some friends that we met in Fedia that they said they just hung around here and there were guides. So, you can go in with a guide and it’s better cuz they know where the shallow crossings are and they can make your experience better. I’m just not seeing anybody hanging around who maybe wants to take people on a little adventure. So, we’re going to sort of just maul about here and hope that someone comes and wants to offer to take us uh for a trek. And we were also told that the guides charge an astronomical amount of money. They start at how much was it? I think like 4,000 L. 4,000 L. So, that’s like 40 Canadian for us. No, no, no. Sorry. Yeah. That’s like $80 Canadian. 160. 160 for both of us. Yeah. Yeah. So, and we were told that um you can bargain them down to a thousand for both of us. So, that’s what we’re going to try to do. It’s going to be hard to do it. The only way that nobody’s fighting for us and we’re actually looking for them, but we’re going to try. All right, let’s go find a [Music] guy. Okay, so there’s no guides here today. Um, we did ask some of the guys opening the coffee shop. So, if you can’t get a guide to do the canyon trek, this is a pretty short stop because you cannot see very much except for this walkway we’re on. Um, I’m going to say like what is this 100 m in maybe that you can go and you see a little bit of the gorge and it’s lovely but just the drive it literally took us an hour to get here from Fedia. So, we were hoping to spend a little more time here. Okay. So, we did talk to somebody and I guess the official tours and all that kind of stuff open up. Um, what do you think? You said like the 20th of April of April. So, we’re a month early. However, we did have some friends that came a week ago and um they were just standing where we were at the end um like 300 m in or whichever. And um somebody approached them and they bargained for a um to hire them as a guide. And I asked him that and he said, “Well, sometimes there might be somebody there and sometimes not.” So, it looks like today is a not day, but we are here super early. So, if you’re coming here before the end of April, um, chances are it’s a long drive to it’s it’s a cool gorge, but you see very little of it. Like, that’s not open yet. Like, that is not open yet. Getting renovated. And then over there there’s a restaurant that is open. Definitely looks like a cool place in the summer. It would be super busy, but um worth coming. So, for sure, we’re going to uh do a change of plans and I think we’re going to go um hit that beautiful maybe beach. We were told that if you’re in Fedia, you cannot miss is it Olen? Oladenz. Oladenz Beach. It’s supposed to be spectacular. So, we got a little bit of a drive. So, I think we’ll uh drive to the beach. Absolutely. Let’s do it. [Music] All right. So, we just left Sacllant National Park and we were going to head uh to a beach, which we still will. However, we saw this um sign for a cool waterfall and it’s called Gizllacent Waterfall. So, it’s not too far. I think it’s Oh, it was like 5 minutes down the road. We were just like, “Oh, sidetrack.” Yeah. And like a 300 meter, I think, walk through the water um to get to the waterfall. So, and they’re not even really open right now. So, the guy said free entry because um it’s not even open season yet. Um you can We were offered a zipline. We were offered rafting and uh and there’s buggy tours or something as well. So, there is some things to do here. So, anyway, it’s free for us. We’re going to take the walk down and see what the uh waterfalls are all about. [Music] All right. Now, we’re going to start our little river truck, Jen. Yeah, this is our river truck today. You can rent water shoes for 50 L. Okay, it’s not bad. But we brought our waterproof Birkenstock, so we are ready. Okay, first. Is it fresh? It’s fresh. Okay. Well, this is a fun little track. Careful, Janet. Okay. We got a little sketchy makeshift bridge. Oh, I’m sure it’s fine. [Music] Okay, this is a very fun little walk. I like this. It really is. And no one else is here. I think I might have preferred water shoes instead of uh the Burks cuz the Burks want to slide off your feet where water shoes would uh be a little grippier, I think. All right. We need We just need Crocs with the safety strap. A safety strap. That’s [Music] right. I’m hoping uh that this is not the waterfall we came for, but it looks like uh we can still walk a little further. My gosh, I can start to see it. Wow. Oh, it sounds so nice. Okay, well this is worth it. Okay, this is so cool. Oh my [Music] gosh, what a hidden little gem. What do you think, Jen? I’m so glad that we did this. It is so like I can’t believe we have the whole place to oursel. It feels like we found something that no one else knows about. Okay, you have to get all the way in here. There’s a bit of a mess. I’ve come past it a bit to try not to let the microphone get too wet, but the main part of the waterfall is actually here. So, Mitch is going to have to come. We’re going to have to hope that our audio equipment does not get misted. At a certain spot, it gets a bit misty. You’ll have to put it under your shirt. Is incredible. Look at this. The walls are literally dripping behind us as well. Okay, this was definitely a worthwhile Yes. stop. Yeah. And it’s not far. It is like 300 m at the from the bottom of the stairs where you kind of come up the river. It’s really cool. Like it took us maybe were we 15 minutes waiting through the water? Like not like if that 10 or 15 minutes. But uh yeah, this is awesome. And again, we’re total offseason, so like it’s really not open, but I’m sure in the summertime this place would be packed. Come in the offse if you can because you get it all to yourself. And it’s free. Yeah, in in the summer. I’m not sure what they charge. And also, I think in the summer you’d have to pay for parking, which we didn’t have to pay um either. Spectacular stop. All right, we got some pictures. Yes. And next, we’re going to take you to the beach. Okay, guys. I know we were supposed to bring it to the beaches. However, um we came on this little day trip to uh Kayakoy and it’s um like an ancient Greek um abandoned village or town, I guess, cuz there’s like 860 structures. Um and we’ll put some drone shots on, but it’s uh pretty pretty big. It actually is really cool. We weren’t even going to come here. We’re lucky enough to have some friends who had a car and they invited us out for the day. So, thank you so much, guys, because it actually is more impressive now that we’re here. The structures are super cool. There was actually people here until I think the 1920s, early 20s, I think. Yeah. Um, but yeah, it dates back to the 4th century BC. And apparently the abandonment has something to do with a population exchange. So, with the fighting between the Greeks and Turkey, there was some exchange where they agreed to leave. the people Greek went to Greece and when the Turkish people the population moved here I guess they just didn’t want to live here and they let this place sort of rot like it’s hard to believe like it’s like a significant town and uh it’s just sitting here. Yeah. But it’s very interesting. It’s free to get in and uh you can just sort of wander around. There’s not a lot of information or signage here, but it is just really interesting to see the structures. Um some of it in better shape than others, but uh yeah, it makes a cool place just to explore for the uh for a few hours. No, for sure. [Music] All right, we’ve been walking around for a couple of hours and this place is actually way cooler than I expected. Like you can get lost here for hours. Oh yeah. I think we’re we might be in a castle. We’re not quite sure. We’re on top of a hill. Yeah. Um but like check out the view behind us. Like that is just crazy. There’s so many buildings. Um it just it if you’re around definitely put this on your list. U we weren’t going to come and I’m glad we did. So happy that we did. And there’s little sheep walking around here too, banging up in the hills and climbing up and no, it’s really really cool. It’s just ruins and ruins and you feel like a kid just running through and exploring. Yeah. And there’s there’s hundreds of people here, but you wouldn’t know it because it’s just so it’s just so spread out. So yeah, so much space. So definitely put it on the list. It’s just outside of Fedia. Maybe 20 minutes. And I think you can take a bus here as well. Public transit. um does come out here. So if you went to the main bus station in Fedia, somebody could help you um direct you onto the right bus to get out here so you can explore it even if you don’t have a car. Really cool. Mhm. All right. Now on to the beach. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] We finally made it to Aladz. We did. And it’s a beautiful, beautiful beach. Yeah, this has got a completely different vibe than Fedia and even Chalice Beach where we are staying. This place is known and now we can see why for a super long sandy beach, beautiful turquoise waters and uh super calm. Yeah, like swimming. If you want a beach day, definitely take the trip here. If you’re staying in Fedia, you can get public transit. I think there’s buses that come here. You can also grab a taxi. It’s only about 17 km, I think, from uh the marina area in Fedia, so you are sort of over the mountain. Um, it’s also known here for its Blue Lagoon. I think it’s called Blue. It’s definitely a lagoon. Yeah, Blue Lagoon. Um, so you can go down there as well. Now, again, we are in offseason, so the shots you’re seeing here is a super peaceful beach. I’m sure this place is rocking in the summer. Like wallto-wall, boats everywhere. And uh it’s also known for its uh paragliding. Paragliding. Yeah, parasailing. We always mix that up. You know, people are jumping off the mountain with a parachute. So, you can do that here as well if you like. Yeah, that’s really popular. And I don’t know if they’ve stopped for the day cuz we’re around 5:00. Um, but we’ve been here for a couple hours and you constantly see two, three, four different um, you know, people doing it up in the air kind of thing. So, and I think this place in uh busy season, there’s a whole bunch of different boat tours that take you out from the beach here to like is it Butterfly Cove? There’s different spots that they take to Valley or something. Butterfly Valley. Yeah. So, definitely a lot you can do. Um and there’s a lot of places to visit, uh trinkets to buy, restaurants. Again, we’re near the end of March, so not a lot is open right now. And you can see all of the shop owners prepping and doing the renovations to get ready for um busy season and all that kind of stuff. But I could see a lot to do here. But like Jan was saying, the beach is so expansive. Um there’s some nice sand. There’s a combination of sand and pebbles and um you know, plenty of room. Stretches all the way over to the lagoon over there. Um just a very very nice beach and a really nice vibe. We had a quick little lunch a little while ago at a beautiful beach bar. Um prices were reasonable. I think we paid about for a little chicken wrap and a fry. I think we paid about 14 or 15 Canadian. Um you know so for sitting on the beach um you know with your feet in the sand definitely definitely well worth it. Um we did again probably something that couldn’t be done in the high season. We just found a little side street, parked the car. They do have a parking lot right down here, but that does look was kind of expensive. It was$20 $20 Canadian to park. 500 LRA to park down by the beach. Um, but yeah, just beautiful, calm, and of course, west facing, so the sunsets would be spectacular for sure. Um, so we hope you’ve enjoyed our little day trips from Fedia. For sure. And if you did, uh, give us a like, subscribe if you haven’t. We still have a ton of adventures, um, coming your way. We do. Till next time. Cheers. Cheers and happy travels. [Music] Let’s go. Let’s be free with me. [Music]

  1. Ekrem Uçar (Shepherd Ekrem) is known as the person who discovered the Saklıkent Canyon in Türkiye. He discovered the canyon while grazing his goats and played an important role in opening it up to tourism in 1988.

  2. This may not be related to the video, just for your information. There are 978 pig farms in Türkiye. Pork has been on the butchery meat list for years. It became legal, I heard this on Turkish national television.

  3. Please keep up to date like the rest of the world.
    Not Turkey 🦃
    It's Türkiye
The country now officially known as Türkiye requested a name change from "Turkey" to "Türkiye" in English at the United Nations in 2022. The change was made in response to a request from the Turkish government to better represent the country's culture and values. The United Nations agreed to the change in June 2022, and the U.S. State Department also adopted the change in January 2023.

  4. Thanks for sharing your visit to that area. Fethiye is high on our list for our trip to the Mediterranean next year so we’re really interested in seeing the area. Keep up the great work

  5. Great video! The best days are the days that don’t go quite as planned! Around here, we always find the best spots at the end of dirt roads and off the beaten path. By the way, if you are looking for any kind of water shoe, highly recommend Merrell Hydro Mocs…looks like a croc but meant for actually walking or hiking. Enjoy your summer at home!🇨🇦😎
