Easiest Places Americans Can Go Right Now!
Welcome back to the channel. Thank you for watching. What if you just reached the end of Europe and you’re like, “We need to go as soon as we can.” What we want to talk about today are places that are, let’s say, easy or at least quick for Americans, because that’s primarily our audience, to get to and be able to stay at least an extended period of time without requiring a lot of effort, visas, money, etc. you can go. Maybe you’ve just been retired by your company as a couple hundred thousand Americans just found out this week. Maybe you just reached the end of your rope and you’re just tired and you know you just want to quit and you need to go and you don’t know where. You haven’t spent you know a lot of time doing research or planning where you want to live. You haven’t bought a house in another country or anything like that. You’re just like, “Okay, that’s it. We need to get out of here and at least for our sanity go.” Yes. You know, for us, we have more than six months to plan everything. We still have a job when we decide to retire or move out of the country. And uh we get a lot of options. Uh and then this video, we want to share with you some places. Yeah, there are great options out there. As again, this might be a situation where you just need to go for your own personal reasons and you don’t want to take six months. you don’t want to burn through a lot of your savings if maybe you’ve lost your job. So, we just want to jump into it, hopefully share some some information with you, get you to think about things that aren’t the final answer in your life. And maybe you aren’t like us where the idea of 100% full-time travel is what you want. Starting off, let’s say you want to stay roughly in the same time zone so you don’t have to deal with some of the fun things of being overseas. And we have two really excellent options. well, right next door as well as a lot of options nearby that stay keep you in that same, you know, western hemisphere time zones. First being go north, go into Canada if you don’t mind the cold, if you don’t mind the weather. You know, this may not be the time of year at Halloween to go into Canada unless you love the winter. But Canada is a beautiful country. It’s got amazing cities, coastlines. Cost of living is similar to a slightly less. Obviously, there are places you can go that are significantly less if that is a big issue for you. But the great thing is for Americans, you get six months. You can go there visa-free. You can get in there and spend a significant amount of time just catching your breath, baselining, and doing research about where you’d like to go next. Now, in addition, Canada has an excellent health care system. Now, we’re not talking about joining their public health care system because you won’t be allowed to. Foreigners don’t get access. You need private insurance. It is not cheap. So you are not going to get that lowcost healthcare that we have found in other parts of the world. But again this is the language but otherwise Canada is an easy place to get to. You can drive there so you can drive your car around. You don’t have all that extra cost. You can find places outside the main cities that are fairly inexpensive to stay but the rest of the costs from food and everything else are not that much lower. Number two is Mexico. The other direction you can drive there as well. Mexico. And don’t be afraid. You don’t have to speak Spanish to move to Mexico. They’re so adorable. They’re so open mind. They’re will welcome you like you’re part of the, you know, family. And you know what? The country is a lot, it has a lot of options. You know, it’s a huge country. Yeah. And there are a ton of expats. You if you reach out to any community down there, they will point you in the right direction of a place that you might enjoy based on the things you like to do. Are you a beach person, a fisherman, mountains, you know, big cities? They got it all. The country is massive and there are only a few parts of it that you don’t want to go to. We have friends living all over um, you know, Mexico from the big resort towns to the little beach villages to Mexico City, which is, you know, as big as any place in the world. Um, except maybe Tokyo. But again, Mexico has all these great options. It is a lower cost of living. It is not as cheap as it used to be, but get away from some of the main tourist areas. You can get some very affordable living and you also get six months visa-free. There are options for longerterm visas that are not that hard if you decide that’s the right place for you. But this again is a place to go where you don’t have to figure it all out before you go there. Just because the food is delicious. Yeah. One thing we want to add is be very careful when you’re picking the place that you’re going in Mexico because like everywhere in the world there is some cities where it’s not safe. So, you know, take your time to do your research, keep yourself safe. It’s it’s not worth it. But that’s what that expat community. There is an expat community in every one of those cities. You know, there are tons of videos out there from people who live there. Take advantage of those. But you could leave for Mexico in a very short period of time. And then, as I said, you get six months to figure out what you want to do next. Now, the next one we want to talk about is just farther down. I wouldn’t necessarily drive it because there’s a bunch of other countries you got to go through. But if you’re willing to give up your car and fly somewhere, Panama is another great option. Now, a lot of people will say, “What about Costa Rica?” We’ll get to those. Panama down there. We all know it because of the canal. It’s that transition down into South America. Another beautiful country, you know, both Caribbean and Pacific oceans, tons of amazing beaches. Panama City is a worldclass uh city. One of the great things about Panama is they use the US dollar for their transactions in cash. And of course, credit cards are accepted most everywhere, but you don’t have to worry about, you know, exchanging money and what the exchange rate. They they’re pegged to the dollar. It’s pretty easy from that perspective. You got modern amenities everywhere and a great health care system that actually is cost- effective. They speak English, too. Oh, yeah. And the healthc care is very affordable. The food is very affordable and it’s delicious, too. So, South American food, I mean, come on. Yeah. So, yeah, if you move into Panama City and want to stay in a brand new high-rise or a really nice house, you can spend as much as you want. But if you’re looking for an inexpensive place or at least lower cost, Panama has a lot of great options. Again, there’s tremendous YouTubers for people who’ve live moved down there. Take a look. But it is definitely on the list because it is a safe place as well. Very stable government. Very safe. Yeah. Now, beyond that, there are dozens of countries across Central and South America. Some of them we would never recommend you go to. They’re easy enough to do the research on. Um, and they change rapidly, but there are still some great places that you can go. Costa Rica has some wonderful areas, more, you know, relaxed vibe, etc. Um, but if that’s your thing, you want maybe you want to be kind of a surf bum type of thing or live, you know, a little more rural. Some gorgeous places there. Colombia, Colombia is one of the most popular countries to retire this year. uh because I was doing the research and it’s affordable not specifically in in the big capitals like Boota but if you go to the Sona cafetera the food is delicious the rent is very affordable great health care services for a very very good prices and uh I mean you can live very comfortable in there but what’s the big thing about Zona Capera Sona Cafetera we have all the uh farms s with where they grow the coffee. It’s the coffee plantation. So, it’s up in the hills a lot cooler weather than you get on the beach. That’s the place to go. And it’s very very cost effective to stay up there for a period of time. Now, Americans, we get 90 days, but you can easily apply for a 90-day extension to spend six full months or 180 days in Colombia. Almost no questions asked. It’s pretty easy. Um, they do welcome you. Obviously, speaking a little Spanish or having a Spanish spouse helps, but we were just there for a few months. Gorgeous country, great food. Lucky enough to marry somebody from there. You know, going on there are all of the Caribbean islands. A number of them are fairly cost-effective, you know. Now, those are islands, so they’re small, more expensive to get to, limited housing, etc. But if that’s your your dream, you know, you get most of them 90 days to go and spend there. So those are all options. Again, all of South America, there are a number of countries that give you 90 days. So you could base in Colombia and bounce around and do a little bit of travel without having to move every month. You know, you could literally spend the whole year in two or three countries. Now, one thing I mentioned on Colombia, it’s 180 days total in a calendar year. So what if you’re like us and you have a European dream? Well, if you know about Europe, and you probably do if you’re watching this video, they have the Shenzhen zone, which is now like 30 countries, which is almost all of Europe and Eastern Europe, which is one big travel zone, and we only get 90 days out of every 180. Basically, three months out of every six. In Europe, what we want to say is unfortunately it’s a little bit more expensive. Everything, the housing, the food. I mean, yeah. compared to like South America compared to South America. Of course, compared to the US, it’s probably, you know, in certain countries significantly cheaper now because you guys have seen heavy inflation. Yeah. But yeah, it is not a cheap destination except for a couple spots. Uhhuh. Eastern Europe, there are some countries over there, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, etc. They’re still fairly inexpensive. They are getting more popular, more expensive, but they’re still part of the Shenzhen, therefore 90-day. But there’s one country that is still really cheap or really inexpensive I should say. Gorgeous. Has tons of options. Y and gives you a full year without a visa. That’s Albania. Is becoming more popular, but they have Mediterranean coast. It’s next to Greece. If you’re wondering where it is, you’re like, “Oh my god, it’s near Ukraine.” No, it’s all the way down by Greece. It’s on the Mediterranean. It’s got some beautiful coastland. They’re developing, you know, some beautiful highrises, new infra, you know, new buildings, infrastructure, etc. Now, it does not have great public infrastructure because it’s just recently come out of a long communist dictatorship. So, give them some time. It’s going to be amazing, but they do have a number of wonderful cities. They, you know, have the mountains there in the northern part of the country. Tyrann is a beautiful city with some, you know, the history from, you know, communism and Soviet Union and all that stuff. Yeah. Saranda down south on the coast. A bunch of other smaller or midsize towns and you can get, you know, you could live there on $1,000 a month per person or less. You know, depending on what kind of housing, you know, getting a place in Saranda on the beach will be more expensive. Getting in one of the smaller towns nearby, a lot less. People are very welcoming. They’re very sweet. The food is delicious, too. And you know, you can spend however or as much time that you want in there without feeling the pressure that you have to go. Yeah. And the great thing is that’s your base. You get three months out of every six to go into Europe and you can literally take a ferry boat over to parts of Greece. And you can get on a bus and hit a bunch of different countries in that general area. Flights to everywhere. Now, the only major airport is out of Toronto, so it’s a little bit of a pain if you’re down in Sonda. Hopefully that will change. A lot of people will take a ferry to um I believe it’s Cypress that’s right there and then catch the flight out to the rest of the of the of Europe. But imagine that’s a great place to have a very inexpensive base and then see as much of Europe as you want in your budget allows. Again, a whole year without a visa, not a huge overhead cost. You won’t burn through a lot of your savings in your budget and a lot of flexibility to go see other things. And also one of our favorite countries is close by, you know, when you do want to get it somewhere else and that’s Turkey. Turkey. Turkey is now pronounced. Turkey is now. Yeah. Uh Turkey is one of our favorite places to go. You know, you don’t have to worry about this changing in there. It’s such a beautiful country. It’s a very big country. The food is super delicious. The prices right now are not that uh cheap as where they were before. Yeah. But it’s still but it’s still for American people. It’s very very affordable. Yeah. The their prices have gone up even faster than your prices back home in the States, but they’re still a lot less than ours. You can eat out for, you know, less than $10 a person pretty darn easily. We had a great time there. We look forward to getting back there hopefully this coming year. Again, one of our favorite places. It is also a 90-day place. So, you know, imagine if you’re trying to take your 90 days out of the Shenzhen, you can use that as as one of your bases as well. But Albania gives you that one-year thing, which just can’t be beat. So, for the last option that we really experience that we spend over there eight months and we really know is super super affordable affordable and it’s beautiful, great food, great places is Southeast Asia. Yes. And absolutely. Now, we have our two favorites that we would recommend to somebody looking to go someplace that’s fairly easy to assimilate and kind of get in the swing of things. They’re very safe countries. They’re very developed. Um, you know, easy places to go. Now, you do only get a limited time in these countries, but they have very flexible entry exit. So, you can literally go to Thailand and Vietnam. Thailand only gives you 60 days. You can’t extend a 90. Just go in and pay a fee. An easy place to go. Um, you you know, everybody flies into Bangkok. It’s an amazing city, more modern than you even imagine. Um, so much to do and is a great base. Plus, Thailand is just full of islands and beaches and gorgeousness. It’s it’s amazing. And, you know, $1,000 a month per person is an easy one. 1,500 would get you quite the life. Um, you could live like a king there in a lot of places. Now, there are some high-end resort areas that you will not live for that amount of money. At least again, it’s a very large country. Um, it’s much bigger than you think. And if you go up in the mountains into Chiang Mai, Changai, totally different weather, totally different environment, different type of beautiful and not that far from Bangkok. Mhm. Now, Vietnam, on the other hand, does give you 90 days. Like Thailand, you can literally just leave the country for a short period of time. Some people do it in less than a day. We recommend maybe a week or two, go on a vacation to another country, then come back and that restarts your visa. Mhm. So if you get 90 days, you can go 90 days, leave for a couple weeks, 90 days, could leave for a couple weeks. You know, you could spend all year, almost all of it in Vietnam without violating visa without having any problems. And really, you could rent a place for less than $1,000, get you amazing places along the coasts. You know, less than 600 and get you some other places, you know, more rural. And the big cities obviously are big cities. Yeah. And on top of that, Vietnam is a big big country. You don’t even imagine. You can explore the entire country if you want or you can stay in one place. I mean, wherever is better for you. Amazing country. So many options. Um, you know, we’ve put out videos about it. Lots of people put out videos about it. It’s easy to research. But the best part for this from this perspective is you can go there and base yourself there very inexpensively. um really save your budget for the future while you figure out what you want. And any mistakes you make are not going to break your budget. You know, unlike if you go to start off your first year and do all your bucket list travel or try to base yourself in an expensive country, you burn through a lot of money before you figure out what you want. In addition, in Southeast Asia, there are all these other countries. They vary in, you know, how developed they are, their pricing, how welcoming they are, etc. But for the most part, it’s pretty easy for Americans to go there, stay for whatever their visa allows, and a lot of them are 90 days, but you do have to know like Indonesia and the Philippines are only 30 days. So, you really have to bounce in and out a lot or start looking at extended visas. So, the dream of living in Bali is a little harder without actually getting a visa. But, it’s a great place to visit. Yes. Mhm. And of course, you still have Japan and Korea and India and all those other countries in there that you can use and travel between fairly inexpensively. But again, if you’re looking for a base, Thailand and Vietnam are our favorites. Yes. So again, these were our places that we have loved traveling to or we’ve researched and found like these would be good places to go spend an extended period of time for us and for others. And again in this situation, the current world where if you just are at your wit’s end, you’re ready to go. You need to go. Maybe unfortunately, you know, with the current economic situation, your job goes away. You get retired. Prospects for getting a new job at our age is not great and you’re thinking, well, I need to leave, but I don’t know where to go. That’s what this video is for. So, hopefully you enjoyed it. Please, we appreciate the feedback. For those of you who are from other countries who have traveled to these countries, provide your experience and expertise. that really helps everybody else. Mhm. Thank you so much for watching. We hope that this video is very helpful for you. Yeah. And again, I’m Peter and I’m Elena and the channel’s Retire Everywhere and we have been. We’ve been traveling the world now for three and a half years. You’ve been to a number of these countries. We have some favorites. Check out our other videos about them. Check out other people’s videos who’ve been to these countries and others. There are a lot of other great places in the world, but these are, as we said, kind of the easy ones if you need to get going sooner. All right, take care. Happy travels. Bye bye.
