How to Do a Visa Run from Da Nang Vietnam to Laos in ONE DAY | Step-by-Step

You’re welcome to bring any snack
or even drink into the bus. Um,   but watch out the smell of the snack. Here you go. Cam on. Cam on. If you’ve never done a visa run, it sounds
tedious, spending an entire day crossing a border just to reset your legal status. But when you’re
living somewhere long-term rather than touring through, these runs become part of life’s texture.
Lynn Visa understood the assignment. Comfortable bus with massage seats at heat cool and somehow
make bureaucracy tolerable. Plus a top-loading mini fridge to keep our beer at perfect
temperature. The Laos border route earned its   keep with mountain views that just kept unfolding.
Green peaks, small towns perched on impossible slopes, local life playing out in ways the coast
never shows you. 7 years of this in Costa Rica, one year in Thailand, now adding Vietnam to
our visa run resume. It’s a long day, but it’s the cost of staying somewhere that matters.
Sometimes the journey makes up for the paperwork. Good morning. So yes, today we are going to bring
you along on our visa run to Laos. Same as we did in Costa Rica and same as we did in Thailand. So
we are going with a company here called Lynn Visa. They actually take care of the whole process for
you. Couple days ago, we dropped off our passport   so they could get our Laos visa done and then
that way they can get our uh Vietnam visa done earlier as well. So the process at the border is a
lot quicker. Uh so yeah, they arrange everything. Of course, it comes with a fee. I’m not going to
tell you the price cause pricing does change. This   video uh could be being watched 2 years from now
and the pricing will be off maybe. So uh if you do want to know the price, comment below. We’ll
let you know what it is. Again, four of us going.   So, um, yeah. So, we’re excited to see some of the
countryside here in Vietnam as we go to Laos. And, uh, again, uh, Laos, it’s going to be a quick
little thing. Hop across, come back. Uh, we do stop for lunch as well. We actually got a tip
from our friend Peter who said to, uh, actually   eat at the border. It’s a little bit better food
apparently. So, we’ll see. I can’t see him being wrong on that. So, thanks Peter for that. But
yeah, this is the visa run you can do if you’re   living in Da Nang, Hoi An or like our friend Peter
came up from Quy Nhon to do it on Tuesdays. So, people do come from a lot of different places to
do the same visa run. If you’re not flying out,   you can do a fly out thing as well, but we want
to do the busing. Want to show you how it is. So, yeah. Um, excited to get on the bus again, see
all the countryside. And, uh, yeah, last night, of   course, charged up our headphones, charged up our
battery backup so that we have full power for the whole trip. It does take about 5 and 1 half hours
to the border plus stops and stuff like that. So,   it is a long day. So, but most importantly, we do
have unlimited data with Holafly. So we can watch YouTube, we can stream music and all that stuff.
If you are traveling to Vietnam, you want to get   yourself an Holafly eSIM. Whether you’re only
coming for a few days up to a month or 3 months, um, whatever you you choose, you can actually pick
the amount of days that you need unlimited data   for with Holafly. That’s the nice thing about
it. You’re not paying for wasted days. You’re paying for the days you actually need. And again,
unlimited. So you use it as you want. Whether   it’s for Google Maps, Google Translate, sharing on
social media, you don’t have to worry that you’re going to run out of data. If you are traveling
through Southeast Asia, you can get the Asia   regional e SIM as well. And that’s going to have
unlimited data throughout 16 different countries. So, if you are bouncing around in an Asia area,
then you just have to get the one eSIM. Uh they do have 24/7 customer support, so if you run into
any issues while you’re traveling, you contact   them right away. Also, they have the convenient
app, so you can purchase and manage your eSIMs on there as well. So, if you use our discount code
of THEDUFRESNES, you’re going to save 5% on the   traditional eSIM. country or regional or their
global plan. Uh you can use that discount code for every purchase and top-ups as well. Or you can
be like us and get the new Holafly Plans where we have a monthly subscription to a eSIM that has
unlimited data. So if you use our code on that, you’re going to save 10% on every month. So not
just the purchase of it of the original purchase   of it, you get it every month. So, you’re going
to save some money, stay connected, and again, it’s just going to be nice cuz again, we can watch
YouTube, we can stream music, and we don’t have to   worry that we’re going to run out of data. Um, but
yeah, we’re going to head over here. They actually have a spot you can get some Banh Mi. I want to
show you that. And then there is a bus here, so   I’m not sure if we’re on this one, but yeah, I’m
going to show you what they got here for as far as food goes. Looks like Shayna already got some, but
yeah, here you see they got egg egg bon me. They got coffee, tea, and some free smiles, which is
always good. So, yeah, we’re going to wait and see   what bus we’re on here. it’s this one and uh we’ll
go from there. So, when choosing a company to go on the visa run with, we did a lot of research
uh Facebook groups, just online chat. And uh Lynn Visa always came up as the best one to go with.
They’ve just super professional. They have nice   buses. They get everything done for you. They’ve
actually streamlined the process. Apparently, you used to have to go at like get here like 4:00
in the morning, and now it’s like 6:30, not even   6:30 yet. So, they say to get here at 6:30,
then you do the whole the whole process. They say you’re back around 10:00, but Peter was back
around 8:30. So, it uh they just kind of overshoot because you can run into some sort of issues,
traffic, bus breaks down, things like that. So,   they just want to set expectations to a certain
level and then if you end up getting back earlier, then everybody’s happy. So, um obviously we’ll
let you know throughout this video the process as far as timing and stuff like that. So, yeah,
we’re just waiting for the second bus. I just went   and checked. Uh this this bus is full, so we’re
waiting for another bus and then we’re going to jump on. We’ll show you what that’s like and uh
get going with the day. So, the uh Banh Mi is actually included in your price to do this as well
as the coffee. There’s water, there’s snacks, and um yeah, there’s like a cup of noodles and things
like that. So, if you want to have that, I’m going   to get them to make one for me right now. So,
got to have some breakfast. You want? Yeah. Just half. Yeah. Come on. So, yeah, just a a nice French
baguette with some egg. Perfect breakfast. There’s a hot button here. There’s a
button that uh you know, there’s the the cooler right in the air and the heater right
in the the the chair. So you can hit it and and uh experience it. Okay. Well, before
we uh leave, I would like you to check   your passport one more time. Uh please do
not use we to get high today. Do you know that thing? All right. You can get high
on any other days, but not today. Please. Okay. So, we are on our way now. As you guys
saw, he was explaining that we are on a new   bus. They’ve only done like said this is like
the fourth trip on this bus. It still smells new. Like it’s that it’s that new. But it’s nice
cuz it’s got like all electric like recline. It’s   got heated seats. It’s got cooled seats. It’s got
massage. There’s also USB charging ports on the seats as well. So USB-C and normal USB. He did say
there isn’t any Wi-Fi on the bus yet. Maybe they will in the future. That’s okay. We’re covered cuz
we have our Holafly eSIM with unlimited data. So we’re good for the whole trip. Yeah, exactly.
We’ll probably be hot-spots for everybody cuz   we can do that with our Holafly Plans. Yeah, it’s
very comfortable. The seats are are super nice. Uh air conditioning is good. Absolutely amazing. This
is the nicest, most comfortable bus I have ever sat on in my life. Like this is major VIP. Yeah,
we won’t get any uh cheeseburgers from McDonald’s like we did when we went to Koh Samet, but we got
Banh Mi, so that was that was good as well. So,   but yeah, we’re uh on our way and just heading
out of the city right now. Again, this is a route we’ve never taken before. Going to shoot
some B-roll of the scenery for you guys. I just   turned on my massage thing, so that felt really
weird. Oh, and the heat’s on, too, cuz you know, I need more heat in Vietnam. I don’t think you
need the heat. Maybe the cool function. Push that   off. Yeah, cool. Oh, man. It’s pushing on your
seat on my back nicely. It actually punches you in the back a little bit. But yeah, maybe I’ll turn
on the cool function or something here. There’s   actually like a footrest too that comes out. So,
if you really want to get comfortable and have a nap, you can do that. Obviously, be mindful
of the people behind you. You want to have it   laid right back. But, yeah, I’m going to turn
the cool on, cool off a little bit. Heat. Heat. (music) Okay, so we are at pit stop number one about
2 hours into the trip, maybe an hour and a half. I’m not sure exactly when we took off. I
think it was about 2 hours ago-ish. Um, yeah,   so comfortable on this bus. So yeah, they
got snacks, they got bathroom, they have uh drinks, things like that. So yeah,
I’ll show you what there is here at the   gas station. It’s not like in Thailand where
like all the gas stations have like 7-Elevens and stuff like that. These are a little bit
different, but they still have some stuff. We got some pow. Yeah, good variety of stuff here. So, yeah,
it’s a nice thing of having places like this   to stop and refuel yourself. So, we
got just some chips, some fillets, and uh we already have water, so we get a
drink. But yeah, it’s crazy how lush it is here. It’s like almost more lush than Costa
Rica. It’s just so green. It’s so beautiful   driving up through the mountain like that. You
guys saw the B-roll. So, we’re going to get back on again. I’m going to film some more as we’re
going. stuff that’s uh worth showing you guys   and then again when we get to the next stop.
So yeah, let’s get on this comfortable bus. (music) All right. So, we are at another pit stop. It’s been
an hour and a half again. So, a little store here. kind of a market actually. And then so got
lots of stuff you can purchase, drinks,   food. And then there’s also uh bathrooms in the
back as well. So right on the busy road here. And uh yeah, going to go in and see what there is.
Again, it just looks like a normal market. But yeah, again, lots of uh cool scenery to
look at as you’re going through here. But yeah, they got uh everything from
Red Bull to Huda as far as drinks go.   Check out the view back here by the
bathroom. Looks sweet. The fields. So, it’s what? 10:30. It’s time
for Huda’s, but we got extra. So,   there’s a cooler in here. So,
we’ll just stick it in there. That’s convenient. All right, back on the
bus with some Huda’s. Visa run beers. Yeah, cheers. There you go. You guys can have beers
on your Visa run. And they’re quite cold. And like I showed you, you can keep the rest cool.
I tell Shayna, get as many as you want. Yeah.   Should have bought a two for and just threw it
in there. Everybody help yourself. Party bus. (music) So, it’s now 12:30. We just stopped at the lunch
spot here. They give you 20 minutes to eat if   you want to eat here. I think we’re going to wait
and go to the Bun Cafe at the border. Hopefully, we’ll have time to hit that up. Look like pretty
good food. And again, on Peter’s recommendations,   he’s done this before, so again, thanks, Peter.
Um, so we’re about 7 minutes away from the border crossing area, so we’re pretty close now. Um,
but yeah, we’re just going to hang out here   for 20 minutes, probably get a drink, and then
uh yeah, again, we’ll let you know if we end up having time. Seems like everyone on our bus
has done the had the passports in beforehand, so they can get the Lao visa into your
passport, so it’s faster at the border. So,   not sure how much time we’ll have with this group
at the border. So, again, hopefully we’ll have enough to get something to eat there. If not,
we’re eating snacks all day. Road trip food. Yeah, all right. So, we’re going to see if they
have Huda here. A little donkey in the way. Oh, yeah. They got Well, they have
Saigon. Via Saigon Beer Lao, of course. I guess we’re having a beer. How are you? 40. Okay. Cam
on. There you go. Cam on. So, here’s all the food that you can choose from.
Looks like different types of fish. There’s egg, uh, chicken. Uh, it looks like maybe little
shrimps or something like that. But, yeah, you just come and show what
you want and then pay. So,   you if you want something like this, then
this is readily available when you stop. Cam on. Go for a little explore while we’re
waiting. A lot of garbage here,   unfortunately. See, there’s some cows. I was trying to speak to the ladies
there. Maybe they’re actually from Laos   cuz it’s so close. They had no idea what
I was talking about. I said it multiple different ways as close to Vietnamese as I
could. They just kind of laughed at me. So,   either I’m terribly pronouncing it numerous times
or like I said, they’re from Laos and they’re just over here. Who knows? Maybe they have a different
dialect of Vietnamese up here. It’s closer to to the Laos language. But either way, it’s cool
just they’re hanging out with their cows. All right. So, yeah, 2 minutes down the
road. grab the area where we have to go   in the building. I guess you just have to follow
the lady. You have to have your page open to the uh visa or the stamp you got when you
enter Vietnam. But yeah, we’re walking   down this way. She took off on everybody.
There’s still people coming off the mud. She’s already up there at the gate. Meanwhile,   there’s still people getting off the bus.
So, yeah, you got to go to this little um booth, I guess you want to call it that, it
looks like. So, that’s where we’re heading. Yeah, this is part of the border here. Again,
we can only film so much at a border. So, whatever I can show you, I’ll show you. So, she
just took our passport. She’s going to show that   guard. They’re just checking to make sure you
actually have a stamp for Vietnam. So, we’re just heading to the yellow building and then finish the
process there. So, little bit of a walk. It’s not too bad. It’s nice. It’s not raining. We did bring
umbrellas. So, definitely bring umbrellas if you   are coming to do this, just in case it’s raining,
especially if you’re in this time of year. I mean, it’s September. It’s actually September 19th
and uh yeah, just in case it ends up raining. We did border runs in Nicaragua almost every
time it rained. It was so funny. But luckily the weather’s good today. But yeah, this is the
building here. You can see everybody walking. Yeah. And as I said in the intro, after 8 years of
living abroad, this is pretty normal life for us to do. You kind of get used to it. I mean, every
border is different, but definitely doing it with a company like Lynn Visa, it just makes it that
much easier. Uh, less stressful. Not that they should be. If you’re not hiding anything, then
you have nothing to worry about, but it’s just   that much more comforting when you’re actually
going with a group like this. It’s worth the money. And again, nice buses. Uh, they give you
like the the breakfast, the drinks, the water, all that stuff. So, yeah, definitely prefer to do
it this way. And being that we’re here, we can’t drive. It’s not like we come do it ourselves.
you’d have to get a private car anyway. So,   for it’s almost the same price to have them
do it anyway by the time you get them to do the visa and stuff like that. So, yeah, just
just do it this way instead of the headache. So, the lady that’s walking us through this
whole thing, she just said about 35 minutes,   30 minutes for everything to get put in
immigration for all of us because they’re doing all of our passports at once. So, there’s
a mini mart and stuff over here. We’re just going   to go to this. We were going to go to the
the bun cafe, but it’s back up that way. We don’t feel like uh walking back up this way,
but you can see here’s the border gate. So, that’s what we’ll be walking past. Once we get
our uh exit stamp, we’ll be going over to Laos and getting our uh entrance and exit stamp from
Laos. So, again, we’ll show you that. But for now,   we’re going to find something to eat. I’m
not sure. Let’s see what there is. So, yeah, there’s some washrooms here if in the 2 minutes
since the other stop you’ve had to go. They’re probably better if you can wait till there.
The ones at the restaurant weren’t very good,   but yeah, there’s a little mini bar here.
Looks like they have coffee and stuff, too. No food. The snacks. Oreos. Huda and Oreos. It’s going to let you know how much it is.
It must be in the um the Laos money. See, I was trying to figure out the pricing, but it’s
got a B at the end. It’s And then put it in like for Lao and it’s doesn’t add up. It’s almost like
it’s in Thai baht. Can you figure out the pricing? That’s what I was thinking though, man. I only
see [ __ ] four numbers. I thought maybe five for   Johnny Black. Yeah, I know. But I think it’s in
baht for some reason. It doesn’t make any sense. We’re not even near Thailand. What kind of store
this to look it up? Yeah, I look I looked for for Laos and it doesn’t even make sense. Obviously
dong it’s not going to make sense. And I put   bought in. It means this was 100 bucks. Yeah.
US. So weird. I don’t know. You got to ask him, I guess, and see. Yeah. Just go up there and
see what it is. Yeah. And if it looks good,   you can just [ __ ] buy it. Yeah. Exactly. If not,
bring it back. Yeah. Exactly. Done. Right. It’s dong. Yeah. I don’t know. We don’t know. Where is
it? I’m pretty sure I was thinking because this should have five numbers on it. Yeah. For dong
or else or just three and then you add the three   zeros but it has a B after. So that’s be like
Thai baht. It’s not Kip or billions. Yeah. I don’t know. Billion or Kip. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe. No. I
don’t know. We got to ask and see. So I went up to the lady to ask and she said, “Yeah, it’s in Thai
bot for whatever reason.” And so this is 1,680 Thai Baht, which is about just under $53 US for
a double black Johnny Walker, just so you know. All right, so they got all the passports stamped.
Now they’re just handing them out to everybody.   All right, so we’ve got our passports back. We’ve
got our exit stamp. We already had our Laos visa because we gave them our passports early. They
took it to the embassy. So you save time. you   don’t have to sit on the other side of the border
in Laos for like 3 hours waiting for your visa. So, it’s better to do it that way if you are in
Da Nang or Hoi An. So, yeah, we’re going to walk   across now, enter, exit, and then come back. So,
right at the gate, there’s a little checkpoint just to make sure you have your exit stamp. Just
like all borders, they want to make sure that you   haven’t skipped a step and you don’t have that
in there. So, that’s all that was. Quick look at your passport. And then, yeah, we get a nice
walk here. Nice greenery and park like walk. We got some cows crossing here too.
Should we check check their passports? So, we’re almost at the border for
Laos right now. So, a bit of a walk.   Went through the gate. They didn’t ask
to see it at this the gate on this side. They just said to go to the building. So
that’s what we’re going to do. But yeah, again, easy process. Even if you were doing
this on your own, be pretty easy. It’s just uh you’d have to wait for the visas. That’s
all. Unless you did it online before,   which you can do online visas for Lao. We just
got to this building and they just came and got our passports and said just to wait. So again,
T’s taking care of everything. So, we just wait and uh yeah, I don’t know if we even see we must
see the customs agents. Maybe not. Maybe they just   take care of everything. So, again, we’re going
to let you know the process and how how it’s uh how it’s going so you have an idea when you
want to come and do this, what to expect. So,   we are done at the Lao building. Again, they
took care of everything. We just handed them our passports and they just handed them back.
We have the stamp. So, now we walk back to the Vietnam building. You get your exercise in
doing this. Anyway, uh so they’ll probably   check make sure we have our exit stamp at the
first gate here on the Laos side just to make sure that it’s all done and then they may check
it on the Vietnam side to make sure as well. So, it’s just normal process when doing land border
runs. But yeah, at least it’s a nice day and is a little bit humid and we are hungry cuz we haven’t
had actual food. I thought we’d have more time to   go to that cafe. So maybe we’ll find something
when we get back. But that’s all part of travel, especially days like this, travel days. So yeah,
there’s guys sitting under this gate. They’re going to check our passports. Okay, so next up is
the Laos international border gate again. Yeah, I don’t know if they’ll check here,
but again, if you have your stamp,   it’s not a big problem at all. They just
look quickly and wave you on your way. All right, so we’re back at the Vietnam building
now. Handed our passports over. They’re getting   the entrance stamp for us. So, we just got to
wait and then after that we go to the bus. Um, and I don’t know how long we obviously we have
to wait for everybody else on the bus. So,   hard to say how long that’ll be, but I’ll give
you an idea. It is 25 after 2 now. So, it gives you an idea of timing time frame. Um, it’s just
a lot of waiting and then walking as well. So, it’s really really not that bad. But yeah, once
we get this back, then I’ll fill you in a little   bit of what the next step is, which will just be
getting on the bus. Border run complete. We got our 90 days here in Vietnam. So, yeah, that was 15
minutes we sat there while they did all that. So, now we actually go to Bun Cafe. We wait there
till everybody’s done so we can get something to eat. That’s not just snacks. So, there you go.
Once you’re done everything, you wait there. As   long as you’re in the front of the pack, you can
get something to eat, something to drink, use the washroom, and yeah, we’ll show you what we end up
getting there. They have like a few different food items. They got like a burger and some Chicago
pizza, and they got like noodles and stuff.   But yeah, that was very easy and stress-free.
They make everything super easy for you. So, you don’t have to worry about anything. Just
show up, make sure you have a passport, and   you’re good to go. So yeah, definitely recommend
if you are planning on doing any sort of visa run, use Lin Visa. They make it super easy. Yeah, cost
a bit more than some of the other ones, but it’s uh headache free, so it’s worth it. Sometimes
it’s not all about saving money, it’s about   saving time, saving grief. It looks like there
is one more checkpoint, of course, to make sure that you have your stamp here before you leave
the area. So don’t put your passport away yet. So, yeah, this is a Bun cafe. They got a couple
little areas to sit with fans. Still warm,   but at least they have fans. So, I
ended up getting a pizza, Chicago pizza, and then Shayna got egg and noodles. Looks
like a soup, that kind of thing. And then   just some drinks here. So eat and hang out.
Be nice to get something in us. It’s not just chips and crackers. So it is now 20 after
3. Our bus is outside here. We’re going to get on head back to Da Nang the trip
back into into the darkness. So uh yeah, I’ll show you as much as I can on the way back.
I don’t want to like film exactly the same stuff,   but going to be different at night. But yeah,
I can’t wait to get back and uh just chill. (music) All right, so it is 20 to 9 and we just made it
back to Da Nang. We just got dropped off at the end of one of the bridges. Not actually at the
office where we started. So they actually give you the option to drop off here, which is closer
to where we live. It’s halfway, so it made more   sense. But yeah, overall a really easy visa run
here with Lynn Visa. So definitely recommend their service. I mean, we had no idea going in.
We just based it on what everybody said and what   everybody said was right. So yeah, we highly
recommend if you are needing to do a visa run, do it with them. It was super comfortable. I’m
sure the other buses are as well, not just this   one. Um, and yeah, again, the process, as
you saw, was super easy as well. So yeah, now we’re just going to get a grab, head
home. Again, we’re about halfway between   where Lynn Visa is and where we live. Uh again,
don’t forget to get yourself an Holafly eSIM if you are planning on traveling to Vietnam or
anywhere else in Asia or anywhere else in the   world as well. Again, link is in the description

  1. So the chihuahuas didn't need the border run? Safe n sound in your condo? I would be concerned if visa was not granted what would become of them?

  2. Welcome to Vietnam ✌️🫰🇻🇳❤️

Vietnam is a small country with land borders with few other countries. This is practical and reasonable for enough visitors.

    Thanks for sharing.

  4. Good vid. My question is, what if you didn’t do any Visa runs and just stayed in Vietnam without renewing? How would the government know?, there’s no visa police walking around checking Westerners Visas. Lol

  5. Thank you for adding to my obsessive travel content watching problem. Videos like this help ease my anxiety I plan on slow traveling for a couple years starting in May. Also where do you get this music? I'm over here jammin

  6. Where do you stay? Hotel or Homestay or Private. They all have to report you to police! In other words your desrespect to this country is simply awful! Folks like you make it for lawful people more and more difficult. May be a good idea to leave the country before you are in trouble 😵‍💫

  7. Hi guys, we are coming to vietnam in 4 weeks this is our plan… family of 5 me my wife and three daughters 4yrs, 2yrs, 2months old. Could you let me know your full cost please as it will likely be near exactly the same for us, thank you so much!

  8. Vietnam has over 54 different ethnicities. When you travel to the mountain or in an area that the features look differently, it’s mostly other ethnicity of Vietnam.

  9. Khi nào mà bạn đến Lao mà gặp khó khăn
Thì bạn chỉ cần nói một câu tôi đang sống ở Vietnam
Thì bạn sẽ không có vâng để gì cả
