Ireland’s Most Beautiful Drive: Sky Road & Connemara (Day2)! 🇮🇪
Just enjoy the views you see. This place feels so romantic. If you come here with your partner, you’re going to love it. Not so fast, gotta record this first, no free lunch even for you fluffy fellas! The sheep just walked right onto the road, so they had to stop the car and let them pass first. Check out this town. So colorful, so lively, what an amazing location, this place looks stunning. The weather just turned cloudy again. It was sunny a moment ago and now it’s raining. Every few meters, it’s just sheep everywhere. The whole road’s filled with them. These houses are just built to enjoy the view. Such stunning views all around, cool breeze hitting your face and look at this, it’s an honesty box. I swear I haven’t seen a single car on this Sky Road so far. Been driving for like three kilometers and have seen no one coming or going. It would be such a vibe to just sit here and eat peacefully. Let’s head inside and hit the road. Hey guys, welcome back to a new video and a fresh morning from my road trip across the island of Ireland. Right now I’m in a city located on the west coast of the Republic of Ireland called Galway. The weather in Ireland is just crazy. Literally two minutes ago I checked out of my hostel, it was called Kinlay Hostel. When I stepped out, the sky was perfectly clear. And now, in just two minutes, it’s already starting to rain. By the time I pull out my umbrella and open it, the rain will probably stop. That’s how the weather works here. I actually thought I’d take a little walk around and explore the city before getting in the car or heading out, but looking at this weather, it really doesn’t seem like it’s going to let that happen today. So yeah, this is the same parking spot where I left my car yesterday. Let’s head over, grab the car first, and get inside for a bit. The rain’s picked up again. The weather in this country is just something else, man. It’s such a pain. Doesn’t let you roam around or do anything properly. Like, give us a break. I do have an umbrella, but well, I am already here. Parked my car right over there and paid for the whole day too. And there she is, let’s unlock it real quick. There we go, it unlocks with Bluetooth. This is the car I rented. Let’s toss the bag in. Damn, it’s all soaked. Just see my condition. What do I even do with this weather? Every single day, I wake up all pumped, like, all right, today I’ll go here, I’ll see this. And then the moment I step outside, it starts pouring. Total mood killer. All my plans just wash away with the rain. Right now I’m in Sligo and since I can’t really step out, I’ll just tell you everything from inside the car. Can’t show you much anyway. And look at that, the rain’s getting heavier. Just see for yourself, it’s getting so much heavier. Honestly, I haven’t seen it rain this hard since I arrived in Ireland. Anyway, Galway is a city on the west coast of Ireland and honestly, there isn’t a whole lot to do or see here, but you might have heard of it from that song Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran, which was actually shot right here. The city is mainly famous for its pubs and bars. It’s where most of the young crowd hangs out. People in their 20s and 30s come here to party and chill. So yeah, you could say Galway is basically a youngsters zone. There are also a few hostels around here and some people actually live and work in this city too. That’s why the pubs are always packed. You probably saw it in last night’s video. Ireland is famous for its Irish pubs, and funny thing is, there are actually more pubs outside Ireland than inside. You’ll find them all over the world and these guys are really into their beer, especially Guinness. You will see it everywhere across Ireland, no matter which town you’re in. Same thing here in Galway, too. Pubs packed with young folks, mostly in their late teens and 20s, singing along to their favorite tracks, chugging pints of Guinness and just soaking in that classic Irish pub vibe that never seems to end. Now around Galway, there are actually quite a few spots people come to explore along the west coast, since Galway is basically the main city out here. From here, most travelers head toward places like gone, Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher, or even the Aran Islands. There’s a ferry from Galway to the Aran Islands, and once you’re there, you can take a bus or rent a bike to explore around. Taking your own car, though, is insanely pricey since it has to go on the ferry with prior booking, so it’s not a good idea. Anyway, I reached Galway yesterday and this morning when I woke up in the hostel, I was thinking, all right, what should I do today? I thought about going to the Cliffs of Moher. Maybe the Aran Islands or even Connemara, where I might head next. But honestly, after checking out the photos, they all looked kind of basic to me. And to tell you the truth, so far Ireland has felt way too overhyped and overpriced. I mean, it’s not like the place is ugly or anything, but the beauty here feels kind of exaggerated and overhyped. And honestly, after traveling through countries like Switzerland and New Zealand, these landscapes just don’t hit the same anymore. When I looked at the photos of the Cliffs of Moher, or the Aran Islands, I was like, man, I’ve seen places way more stunning than this. Going there now wouldn’t really excite me much, and I’d probably have to fake that excitement on camera just to make it look interesting. So, no point going there. And if I really want to see cliffs, I’m not going to the Cliffs of Moher. I’d rather head up north west to a super remote area where barely anyone goes. There’s a place called Donegal and the cliffs. There are actually three times bigger than the ones here. Hardly anyone goes there. Since it’s out of the way, most people just visit Galway, see the Cliffs of Moher nearby and then move on. The weather here stays cloudy most of the time. Even if you reach a beautiful destination, there’s no guarantee you will actually see it because it’s usually raining or covered in clouds. So luck really plays a big part. Before we hit the road today, let me tell you where we’re headed. From Galway, we’ll drive a bit further west toward a place called Connemara. It’s about an hour and a half away. My hostel actually tours going there and this morning, I was checking out a bunch of brochures. I even brought a few along. They listed all the same popular spots I’d already read about, so I figured that instead of joining a tour, we’d just go on our own. Who knows if the place will actually be worth it or not. It’s already starting to rain, so we’ll move at our own pace. And honestly, nothing beats that kind of freedom of traveling by car. Since I actually enjoy traveling alone, it’s all good. No complaints at all. So first we will head toward Connemara, and see how that goes. After that, we’ll decide what to do next. Hopefully, we’ll move further northwest and explore some of the remote spots there and if things go smoothly with time, we might even cross into Northern Ireland later and spend the night in Belfast, their capital city. I haven’t booked anything yet. No clue where I’ll go, what I’ll do, or where I’ll stay. I’ll just go with the flow and see where the road takes me. Let me quickly repeat one last thing, though. Even if you’ve seen my old videos, a quick recap won’t hurt. And for new viewers, it will help you catch up. Right now I’m in Ireland, but just so you know, Ireland itself isn’t one single country. It’s actually an island where about five-sixths of the land belongs to the Republic of Ireland, an independent nation. And the remaining one-sixth is Northern Ireland, which is a separate country, that comes under the UK. We started our journey in Dublin, which is in the Republic of Ireland, and so far we have been traveling within the same country. But after that, we could move northeast into Northern Ireland, which is a completely different country. And to be honest, I’m really curious to see what life is like over there in that part of Ireland. Alright then, let’s hit the road. Time to start the journey towards Connemara. Let’s fire up the engine and roll into first gear. Today’s drive feels totally different from yesterday. First off, it’s raining, so the roads are pretty slippery. Yesterday was all about highways, with nothing much to see. Just wide roads lined with trees. But today, it’s not a highway drive. It’s got a more local and authentic vibe because I’m passing through villages, open fields, and seeing sheep and cows casually grazing around in those wide open fields. Every few miles, these small, charming Irish towns start popping up along the way. The roads just a single lane and cars keep coming from the opposite side. It’s a bit more beautiful today, and though it’s slightly challenging because of the rain, it’s actually a lot more fun to drive. Man, today the rain is just pouring nonstop. There is a speed camera sign ahead and even though the limit here is 100, I’m barely touching 60. I’m driving slow and steady because the roads too slippery. Whenever a car comes up behind, I give them sight and let them go ahead. And look around, these views are absolutely stunning. The whole landscape kind of reminds me of New Zealand. The rolling green fields, the scattered cottages and those misty hills in the distance give the same peaceful vibe. It’s like driving through a painting, quiet and unreal, just you and the road surrounded by pure nature. And you know what? This kind of calm hits different when you’ve been driving through crowded cities all week. It’s the kind of drive that makes you forget about time completely. In fact, Costa Rica had kind of similar views too. Anyway, the moment I even slightly moved the car off track, it starts warning me, ‘Keep control’. Right now, the speed limit is 60 since we’re entering a town, but as soon as we hit the open road again, it’ll jump straight back to 100. From inside the car. Everything looks absolutely beautiful. These views outside are just stunning. The rain’s coming down perfectly and the wind is blowing hard. But the moment you step out, it feels kind of scary. You’d instantly want to jump right back inside the car. Man, this place is beautiful. Look at these houses, dude. Lined up on both sides of the road. This is actually the first big town we’ve come across since we left Galway till now it was all small towns, one after another. I mean, earlier, it wasn’t even towns, just tiny villages. But this one actually feels like a proper town. No idea what it’s called, though. Connemara Lake Hotel. We’ve barely entered and look at that, already a few pubs are popping up along the road. I even spotted an Italian restaurant ahead. Man, look to the left, there’s some kind of water body flowing alongside us. See that? And our cars running right beside it. There was even a bridge we just crossed over from behind. If it weren’t raining, this view would have been stunning. Wait, hold up. Could that be the River Shannon? I guess not, Shannon doesn’t come this far west. Yeah, no, I don’t think that Shannon must be something else. If it wasn’t raining right now, I swear I’d have totally stopped here and just sat by the water munching on an apple or something. The vibe’s that good. But what can you do? The weather’s got other plans today. Look at these houses, man. So open and spacious. This is what you call a proper home. Even back there, there were more like these, wide open with big front and back yards. I couldn’t really focus earlier because I was driving uphill, but now you can really see how open everything feels. That river we just crossed towards the River Owenriff, I just checked on the map. Let me see if there is any car behind us. No there isn’t, we’re good. And look at this house on the right. What a beautiful place. So open, so peaceful, it almost feels unreal. I feel like I’m missing out, and you guys are too, since I can’t really show you the views properly. So, yeah, let’s step out and take a look. There is our car parked right here, all right. Let’s wait for a few cars to pass before we go that way. The car’s right here, door wide open, but there’s literally no one around. Just look at these views, dude. This is exactly what I was talking about the whole time. These stunning landscapes I kept seeing while driving but couldn’t really show you before. On both sides of the road there are fields full of sheep grazing peacefully. The whole place feels so alive and fresh. Everything around is covered in lush green grass and rolling hills. And that’s exactly why people call Ireland, the Emerald Isle. Emerald for the rich green color and isle meaning an island. This endless greenery is what makes this country feel so magical. But look at this, what a view! So green, so fresh, absolutely beautiful. A few cows are walking that way, too. And this is just one side of the road. You’ll find these kinds of views popping up again and again on both sides as you keep driving. I hope now you guys finally get what kind of scenery I’ve been talking about all this time. I better not get hit. It was incredible. I’d better run quickly because if a car comes, it might just run me over. There is barely any space. My car is here. Let’s get in and move on. I’ve been driving for quite a while now. Couldn’t really enjoy the views. And neither could I show you guys anything. Then the rain stopped for a bit, so I thought, why not stop? And quickly show you what’s around? Just look at these views. And look here, this right here is called an honesty box. People usually keep eggs or other local stuff inside it, but right now it’s closed. It says closed right here. If we open it from this side, then- Open up. Inside this box, they’ve kept stuff like this. Eggs for about three and a half euros. But right now it’s closed. There’s even a camera inside. Basically, you pick what you want, leave the money here yourself, and that’s it. It’s someone’s personal honesty box. They can’t sit here all day to sell things, so they just set this up. You’ll find these in a lot of countries. Definitely in Switzerland, all over New Zealand and even in Australia and Costa Rica. Not sure about Costa Rica though. Anyway, look at these views. This is what I was talking about. Just check this lush green view. Absolute beauty. And that’s a water body right there. My internet’s not working, otherwise I’d have told you its name. This doesn’t look like a private farm, though. Maybe the government put up that fencing here. If this was open, I’d definitely have gone down there for a dip. But it’s closed off. The weather is a bit rough here in Ireland, but honestly, I’ve started to really like this part. Even if it’s gloomy. What can you do, right? That’s the beauty of this place. Enjoying it in the rain, the wind, and all that wild weather. But if the weather was the same everywhere in the world, how would any place stay unique, right? If every spot was sunny all year or covered in snow all the time, then what’s special about this place? It’s charm is exactly this, but it’s fun. Whenever I find a nice spot, I’m just going to stop and enjoy it. That’s exactly why I got a car. I think this is a craft shop and not a bar, but can be a bar also. I think it’s a gallery or a craft shop or something. You know, in their old legends, whether it’s the Irish or the Welsh, there are tons of stories about giants and strange creatures. I’m still not sure if this statue in front of me is that or a real person. So actually, the name Connemara comes from an ancient tribe called Conmhaicne Mara. In Irish, it means descendants of the sea. Basically, the people who once lived along this west coast region gave it its name. There’s no internet here. That’s the real problem. I’ve got no clue where I’m heading or what I’m doing. I was just saying there’s this bar called Joyce Bar written over there. There was another viewpoint a little behind. I swear I’ve been stopping every two minutes, but that one looked amazing. So I took a left turn, and now I’m heading back there to show you guys that view. Let me just pull my car back and head that way. That’s someone’s house, man, what a stunning spot to live in. There’s this narrow little lane right in front and on both sides of it there’s water. Look here, and there too. Next level view, seriously? And that guy over there looks totally lost in them. Been standing like that for quite a while. All of a sudden, it’s gotten warm now, after I put this jacket on. And look at these views. Aren’t they just amazing? The sun’s out now, the sky is all clear, and the views are finally visible again. Just a while ago, I couldn’t see a thing. I think I missed a turn somewhere around here. My internet ran out midway, so I stopped and asked a guy to check his map and tell me which way to go. He pointed me in a direction, and now I’m just heading there. No internet, no maps, nothing at all. Just driving, disconnected and seeing where the road takes me. So there’s an Abbey and going tomorrow, basically a kind of old church. And then there’s also a castle around here. Plus there’s this one scenic road that’s quite famous. That’s the direction I’m heading toward right now. The sun’s finally out, man, and everything just lit up. Feels amazing now that it’s sunny, and if I can see mountains like these, that means we’re not too far from the ocean. Just look at these landscapes, these views ahead, man, absolutely stunning, what a sight. Seriously, this is beautiful. There are sheep walking all along the roadside, a bunch of them. There’s a car right behind me, or else I’d have stopped right here. Look at these trees standing right at the edge of the road. And man, just look ahead, what a view! Absolutely incredible! Seriously, this one’s next level. And now that the sun’s come out, too, it’s looking even more beautiful, man. Pure perfection. The colors have completely changed now, everything’s glowing and fresh. It feels like the whole landscape just came alive in front of my eyes. And over there, look a house standing right in front, overlooking this stunning view. There was a car behind me, but it just moved back a bit. There’s barely any space here to give side. So yeah, let’s just stop the car here. Let’s take a proper look around because this view deserves a minute of peace. The whole scene looks straight out of a painting, unreal yet so calm. Let’s pull over here. See these sheep grazing? Let’s get outside now. The sun is out shining and you can see these sheep grazing. Or is it a goat? Let me go up close to see. Goat or sheep? I can’t even tell anymore. Looks like a sheep, though, just grazing around. And look at this view, absolutely gorgeous! Oh, wait, there are more of them over there too. You can feed them also. Feed the sheep. Look, you can actually buy food for them and feed them yourself. It’s written here, probably in Irish. You can grab some food for them from here. This one’s sheep food. Cost €1. Alright, let’s drop one in, wait, where exactly do we put it? And now we grab this food and feed them. See, it cost €1. Let’s drop the coin in. There, that’s a €1 coin. We’ll put it in here and pick up the food box for them. One box for a Euro. Roughly 1.2 USD. They’re going to love it. Just wait and see. But I’m not giving it right away. Got to record the video first. Not feeding you for free. It cost me a whole euro. Look at that, they all came running. They’re gonna tear it apart at this rate. Easy, easy, calm down. And the food’s gone. Used tubs are put here. I parked the car, but you know what the problem is? My internet’s not working, so I can’t even lock it. I don’t have a key, either. The car’s completely keyless. It locks through an app on my phone using Bluetooth. So, yeah, it’s going to stay open until I get some internet. But man, the view here is next level. There’s quite a crowd here. Now the moment the rain stopped and the sun came out, every car hit the brakes, all the tour busses pulled over and everyone got out to take in the view. But honestly, I get it. This place is stunning. I didn’t think any spot here would actually fascinate me, but man, coming here was a solid decision. The moment you step on it, your feet just sink right in the grass and soil. Here are so soft. It rains so much that even normal ground has turned into mud. Everything feels kind of bouncy, but this spot is amazing. Would have been even better if it started raining again right? Perfect place for a little splash. It would be such a vibe to just sit here and eat peacefully. The wind is freezing though. You guys might be thinking it looks super cozy, but honestly it’s not that comfortable. Still, it’s worth it, right? Just wish the wind come down a bit. The sun came out a little more and we could sit here, eat, and soak in this view. What else could anyone even ask for? You know, after spending so many months in Africa, you kind of start appreciating everything all over again. That’s the best part. Otherwise, I’ve seen so many beautiful places around the world that not much really wows me anymore. But it’s nice. Just now an Indian family showed up and recognized me. I borrowed their hotspot for a bit and finally topped up my internet. It was really important. You know how we always say Indians are everywhere? Well, that actually works in our favor. Everywhere you go, there’s always someone from back home to help you. So guys, till now we were kind of going uphill just by guesswork. No maps, no signal. So yeah, this area here is Connemara National Park, where we saw all those sheep earlier, and now we’re heading toward Kylemore Abbey. You will see what’s there once we reach. After that, we’ll be taking a scenic route called Sky Road, probably one of the most beautiful drives around here. And then we’ll see what comes next, and where we will be heading. Look at that, guys. The sheep just walked right onto the road, so they had to stop the car and let them pass first. These are the kind of stunning views you get inside this national park. And this is our drive. Totally giving those New Zealand vibes. Honestly, I should have brought the drone for this one. I don’t have it with me right now, but look to the left, it’s all water as far as you can see, stretching endlessly with mountains shimmering in the distance. This lake right here is called Lough Inagh, a stunning Irish Lake right on my left. And man, every few meters it’s just sheep after sheep, the whole road covered with them. I’ve got to drive extra carefully so they can pass through. Such a beautiful drive. It feels like a painting in motion. You guys have already seen the lake, right? I wish I could pull over here and show it properly, but looks like stopping isn’t allowed. But I think I can squeeze in my car just here and stop for a bit. At this pace, we’re not reaching anywhere today. The way I’m stopping every few minutes. All right then, let’s rinse this apple first, right over there and find a spot to eat it. I think I should wash it here. Guys, I ended up taking a very longer break here than I planned. No idea how many I was hours just flew by. Anyway, time to finally get moving. Or else I’ll just keep standing here forever. If I keep stopping like this, I never reach my destination. That was really awesome. My mind feels totally refreshed now. We practically spend the whole day here, but honestly, what a journey, this has been, just incredible. Anyway, time to move now. Our next destination is about 15 minutes away. We’ll stop there for a bit. Haven’t even eaten anything since morning, except one apple and a cup of coffee. Need to find something to eat and also figure out where to head tonight. We’ll sort it out on the way and find a place. But where to? But you guys just enjoy the ride. This is the left route, man. Honestly, I got too excited earlier and ended up staying there way too long. I had no idea there’d be even more amazing spots ahead. Just look at this. The views of the national park are absolutely stunning. I can see some boats down there. I think they rent those out to see the lake. Not sure if you guys can see it clearly or not, but there are boats parked down that side, and man, what an incredible view it is. Oh nice! This is actually a viewpoint too. And even a picnic spot. You can just sit here, eat your food and enjoy the view. Absolutely amazing. The views here are mesmerizing. It’s all sheep everywhere you look. This place honestly reminds me a bit of New Zealand’s South Island. Just look straight ahead, it’s breathtaking. As we got closer to our destination, it suddenly started raining really hard. And I think that lake over there is called Kylemore Lake. The one we’re heading toward. Look at that. Another beautiful lake. The weather just turned cloudy again. It was sunny a moment ago and now the rain’s back. That’s how it is around here. Man, this spot is just beautiful. There’s even a hotel right here and the location is incredible. Our next stop is Kylemore Abbey, around five kilometers from here. Every place around here looks stunning. Anyway, let’s get going. Woodfire pizza. That was thrilling! These views, guys, are just next level. Totally forgot, I’m not in India, got to drive easy here, man. There it is, the castle. What a sight! This is the entrance to the stunning Kylemore Abbey. Visitors welcome. Hope it’s not closed yet. It says they shut at 6:00. We still have three minutes left, that’s plenty of time. Man, look at the time. It’s already 6:00, and I spent the whole day just wandering around. I guess it must have been closed by now. Let’s head straight there and try your luck. No idea what’s going to happen. It could start raining any moment. It better not, as I’m not carrying an umbrella anyway. Yeah, they’ve got the whole map displayed here. There are 2 or 3 lakes around this area. Look, that one over there. And this one right here. The map says you’re here. So that’s where we are right now. From here, we can go whichever way we want, but come on, we don’t have much time left, so let’s keep moving. Just look at the beauty of this place. And I was actually thinking of skipping this place earlier, wow! Just look at that view, it’s unreal. There is a craft shop and a restaurant here, both already closed. The entrance and ticket counter are shut too. No worries though, we’ll just explore from the outside. Just look around. This place is absolutely magical, feels straight out of a painting. I was really craving something to eat. And look at this. There is even a cafe here, but it’s already closed. It would have been so nice to sit here and have something to eat. Last admission is at five and after that they don’t let anyone in. Still, what a spot! Seriously beautiful. Earlier this place was known as Kylemore Castle, but later the name was changed to Kylemore Abbey. An abbey is basically a place where nuns live, kind of similar to a church, but not exactly the same thing. But it’s not just an abbey here. Look, it also says Gothic church, so there is a church too. And that shuttle over there seems to be leaving now. The best part is, the moment we got here, the sun came out and you know when the sun’s out, even an ordinary place starts looking amazing. When there’s no rain and you get to see this kind of sunlight and beauty around the place just feels even more special. Not sure if you can hear the birds or not, but just listen to how calm everything is. The leaves are rustling, there is a soft breeze and I can faintly hear the sound of water from that side. And this right here is the actual castle or abbey, whatever you want to call it. We can’t really go inside now, since it’s quite late. But wait, it actually looks like it’s still open over there. And this is the view right in front of it. Oh, wow! This is just amazing. Absolutely beautiful. Sitting on these benches and taking in the view would be something, right? This place has such a romantic vibe. If you come here with your partner, you will really have a great time. But it’s closed now. They are playing the sound of horses on the speakers over there. That seems to be a private area, and I think the entry is closed now. We couldn’t see it from the inside, but still it was totally worth it. What an amazing place. Now just look at the view in front, it’s stunning. If we keep stopping like this, we won’t reach anywhere. Got to drive a little faster now. Let’s move, we’re heading towards Sky Road. They say it’s one of the most beautiful drives around. After that, we will stop somewhere nice for dinner and relax for a bit. Then we will figure out whether to spend the night in a town nearby or keep driving towards the northwest side of Ireland. Let’s just see where the road takes us. All right, I’ll see you guys directly on Sky Road, the one everyone says is really beautiful. We’ve already seen most of the roads around here anyway. Oh, wait, what’s this now? The car’s still inside and they’ve shut the gate. Open the gate, man, we’re stuck. What to do now? Oh! It opened. Thank God it was automatic. Everyone else had already left. It’s seven in the evening now. The place closes at 6:00 p.m., and there wasn’t a single person inside. It was completely deserted. I was filming till around 6:00 p.m. for you guys. And after that, I just sat there for a while enjoying the view myself. Got so lost in it that it’s already past 7:00 now. This sign right here says Sky Road Loop, which means we finally reached the starting point of the famous Sky Road. That’s the official marker you see here. And now I’m about to head down this route. Not really sure what makes this route so special, but let’s drive and find out. So this Sky Road is basically a loop about 10 to 12km long. The Sky Road loop is known for its stunning coastal views and is considered one of the most scenic routes in Ireland. But honestly, I feel like when we were driving through that national park earlier today, near the corner side, those views were absolutely incredible too. Maybe it’s because it’s evening now, around sunset, that everything looks a bit softer. If I spot something really amazing along this route, I’ll show you for sure. But yeah, it’s nice. I just feel the views from earlier were even more beautiful. Plus, it’s not that big of a loop either. So from here I’ve set the location for Clifden town. And this whole loop will take me back there. It’s about ten or maybe a little over ten kilometers long. Just look at these views along Sky Road. One more thing. I haven’t seen a single car on this road besides mine. It’s been around 2 or 3km of driving, and not a single vehicle has passed by. Totally empty. Even the castle, earlier, the abbey castle was completely empty by the evening. Not a single person around. Oh wait, looks like there’s finally a car coming from behind. That’s actually the first one I’ve seen so far. Look, there are so many photo stops along the way here. Places where you can pull over, take pictures, and enjoy the view. Let me stop for a moment and show you myself. So what you’re looking at right now is the full Sky road loop that we’re driving on. The road goes all zigzag like this, wrapping around the hills. Down there, that’s a beautiful lake. And on the other side, you can see a few boats and some houses. This is basically all of the Sky Road. These houses here are beautiful, man. The people living in them are honestly living the dream. Just look at those views. What a location! The only thing is it rains a lot here. I guess folks living here must often feel like they’re stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing much to do. Probably not ideal for living permanently, but definitely a perfect place for a weekend getaway or a peaceful vacation spot. All right, I think that’s enough views for one day, man. We’ve seen way too many scenic spots already. Look at that, a cow and her calf just standing there so peacefully. You can literally feel the calm around here. Not a single sound anywhere. Just pure silence. Like the whole place has paused for a moment. And right up ahead, there is a viewpoint coming up. What do you think? Should we stop for a bit? This right here is the viewpoint. Oh man, look at this view. Down there, there was so many sheep just grazing peacefully on that green slope. It looks so calm and quiet like a painting. You know what this drive actually reminds me of the Great Ocean Road in Australia. That one too, had a similar vibe, with the ocean on one side and the road running right along the edge. The Great Ocean Road was beautiful, no doubt about that. But honestly it did not impress me that much. But maybe it is just me that this part of Ireland, only this part, feels even better than the Great Ocean Road. I’ve done road trips in Turkey, driven across Italy and a bunch of other European countries, but honestly, I mean, this one really feels exceptional. The journey has been so beautiful, so peaceful that I’d say it’s definitely among the best ones I’ve ever done. And look at that house back there. What a stunning place to live in. You can actually feel the calm here. I’m sitting on this bench and just soaking in the peace. There’s a soft breeze blowing, that’s why I had to clip on the mic. Otherwise, it’s so quiet you can literally hear everything. The gentle sound of the waves, the faint bleating of sheep. If the wind pauses for a moment, and the occasional chirping of birds somewhere in the distance. Apart from that, there’s nothing, just stillness. These views are absolutely incredible, man. I think this has been my best decision so far in Ireland, renting a car and driving all the way out here. No doubt Dublin, as a city is beautiful. When I first got there the views were nice and the vibe was good, but honestly, it is way too expensive, totally overhyped and way too proud of its pubs, beer, and bar culture. That is all it is about. So if you ever visit Ireland, please do not just stick around Dublin, get out, explore places like this, the kind of untouched, lesser-known spots that truly show you the real beauty of this country. Same thing happened in New Zealand. Auckland was such a letdown. And here in Ireland, Dublin feels exactly the same. Honestly, their cities have nothing much to offer, just pubs, beer, and more pubs. Even in Athlone, same story. Galway too. And Dublin of course, all about drinking. To be honest, I found the cities here pretty underwhelming. But when it comes to nature, man, that’s where Ireland wins. The landscapes we have seen today have been absolutely stunning. I was just sitting here peacefully enjoying the sunset when suddenly a bunch of people showed up. The quiet turned into noise and it got a bit crowded, so I figured, all right, time to move on now. Otherwise, the whole day will just slip away, sitting here. I’ve seen so many scenic landscapes today, and I took my time at each spot, just sitting quietly and soaking it all in, that I completely lost track of time. The whole day just flew by. It’s almost 8:30 p.m. And we started around noon. The drive from Galway to that town we came to was supposed to be just an hour and 20 minutes, I think, to that national park, I guess the Connemara National Park. But yeah, since I stopped and enjoyed everything slowly, it ended up taking way more time than planned. If I keep going like this, I won’t be able to cover anything at all. But you know what? I’ve had my fair share of peace for the day, actually, for the whole week, maybe even the month. It’s time to move on now. Let’s keep going. There it is, the town of Clifton. The one we were heading to. It was hidden behind the hills just now. Wait till I take this left turn toward the town. The view up ahead is going to be beautiful. Man, look at this town. Doesn’t it look amazing? So colorful, so lively. What a stunning location, this place has! You will still see the same pubs around here too. But honestly, the whole vibe of this town feels great. Absolutely beautiful! This is a small town, and I think this is probably their main square, right in the center. Let’s see where we should head from here and what to do next. We’ll have to take a left turn. So let’s go that way and see. All these buildings are painted in different colors. Really pretty. And this lane right here, it’s all parking space. I guess we can just park here for a bit. It’s a Sunday today, so parking should be free. Still, let’s check once just to be sure it’s written right there, maybe. It says Monday to Saturday from 11:30 to 6, parking’s free for three hours, and since it’s Sunday today, it’s completely free all day. Look at this. Bars on both sides painted in different colors. There are plenty of seafood restaurants around too. Since the ocean’s so close, all the shops are shut. It’s pretty late for them anyway. And yeah, it’s Sunday too. Totally forgot that most of these small town shops close around 7 in the evening. Look at that. Is this a French restaurant? Not really sure. You can see that there is an art gallery, a bookshop, a cafe on the right, one doctor’s clinic, or maybe it’s a pharmacy, I guess. Medical hall. And just past that, there is a Circle K fuel station which should have a supermarket inside it too. That church up ahead is called Saint Joseph’s Church. That’s what it says on Google Maps. This here is the main street of the town. And since it’s Sunday night, almost 9:00, the whole place has gone completely quiet. Every shop is shut, not a single soul around. So here is what I’m thinking. We will stop by that fuel station, supermarket, and a few things to eat inside the car. Maybe something quick to munch on later. And after that, we will find a place for dinner. You know, the thing with gyms here is that it’s usually hard to get access on a Sunday since you need a casual day pass, and that’s only available during staff working hours. But one good thing in the UK is that you can simply buy a one-day pass online, get a QR code instantly, and use it to access the gym whenever you want. But here I could only find 1 or 2 gyms online, and none of them had that option, so I’ll check again tomorrow. For now, I’m a bit confused whether to stay here for the night or keep driving ahead. Honestly, I’m leaning towards going a little further and covering some more distance. The town is really pretty, man. I’m just wandering around for now. Might look for some food later, but what a lovely location this town has, surrounded by so many stunning views. Even the town itself feels so charming. Here it’s a bit lively because of this bar. That road had only pubs and bars open. Barely any proper restaurants around. And honestly, pub food isn’t that great anyway. You mostly get fish and chips or some fried chicken. So I came to this on the road hoping to find something decent. Couldn’t spot much online either. There’s another fuel station here and a Spar supermarket next to it. What’s this? Papa John’s pizza or something like that? Maybe they’ve got some grilled stuff too. Let’s see if we can find something decent to eat. Every day, I tell myself it’s been days eating junk food and from today I’ll fix it. From today, I’ll start eating clean. But here we are again. Had to grab a burger and some fried chicken. Anyway, no worries. Will get back on track tomorrow. My eating habits have gone off for the past couple of days here. Last night, when I had dinner in Dublin, I honestly felt cheated. I was like, “What am I even eating?”. And tonight feels kind of the same again. Anyway, they close at 10:00 p.m., which is actually pretty late for this side of the world. I sat for a while after eating, thinking about what’s next and planning the way forward. Although I got to the restaurant around 9:15 p.m., my mistake was leaving the car behind and walking here. It rains a lot in this area, so if it had started pouring I’d have been stuck for sure. But luckily, the weather held up, and I made it just fine. So right now I’ve decided to head northwest toward a place called Donegal, and near it are the Sliabh Liag, or also called Slieve League Cliffs. They are said to be almost three times taller than the Cliffs of Moher, making them some of the highest in all of Europe. Sounds amazing, right? I’m thinking of driving that way, but it’s pretty far from here and I’m not sure if I’ll even find a hotel at this hour. Man, these people are just too laid back. They’re not even interested in making money. I spotted a few hotels along the way, but Donegal’s still about a three hour drive from here, so I’ll probably have to stop in some small town midway for the night. But the first thing is these hotel prices, man, nothing showing up for less than €100, and that too for the most basic rooms. There are a few options for around €85 to €90, even in those small towns and villages, but those either had shared bathrooms or were basically just someone’s house turned into a so-called hotel. And the ones that actually looked like proper hotels, I tried calling them, but not a single one picked up. They had an automated response, saying the reservation team would take bookings after seven in the morning. I mean, what if someone needs a room at night? Basically, the thing is, these people are just way too laid back, man. Oh no, this supermarket better not be closed. There was a gas station here and I thought it’d be open late, so I could grab some stuff like water and milk, but nope, this one’s shut too. It’s 10 p.m., no hotel answering calls, and no stores are open either. Good thing I’ve got my own call. Bad thing it’s not a camper van or I’d have just slept in it tonight. I really need a place to crash for the night. In Asian countries it’s way easier. Like when I did that road trip in Turkey, I’d just walk into hotels at 2 a.m. no booking, nothing. They’d go to price and I’d be like, “Hey, who’s coming to your hotel at 2 a.m.? And they’d give the room for half the rate. Here, though, there’s literally no one around to even talk to. You can’t get milk at 10 p.m. here, but beer? Oh yeah, that’s always available. So one B&B finally got back to me after I called. I told them, hey, I’m on the road right now. It’s 10 p.m. already. Can I check-in maybe an hour or two later? And they said, “Nope, last check in strictly at 11″. After that will be asleep, lights out. If you make it before 11, great, otherwise no chance. We can’t give the room that much late at night.” There is a spa market open at the fuel station nearby. It’s already 11 at night, and I finally hit the road toward the northwest of Ireland, from Clifden to Donegal Town. It’s a long drive ahead, around 2 to 3 hours, and it’s already pretty dark out here, so I’m just keeping my focus on the road. I haven’t picked a place to stop yet, but there’s one hotel in mind I might book soon. You can see the roads are completely empty if any emergency happens, no idea how long help would take to arrive. That’s why I don’t want to take chances and keeping my phone down. After driving for almost 2.5 hours, we’ve finally reached this town. The route was a bit confusing, but here it is. This is the town. The name of this town is Sligo. Not sure if it’s pronounced ‘Slaigo’ or ‘Sleego’, but yeah, it’s totally quiet out here. It’s late at night. Just a couple of taxis passing by behind me. Everything’s obviously shutting down now. I’ve booked a hotel nearby, so I’m heading there. Need to take a left from here. All right, so the hotel should be somewhere along this road, it’s called Riverside Hotel. I’m looking for it right now, should be around here somewhere. Yeah, there it is, up on the left side. I had already called earlier and spoke to the guard. He said, “It’s fine, just come by before one.” It’s 1:05 now, so first let’s check in, then we’ll park the car. Riverside Hotel; After hours. Got the room on the third floor, number 326. One night cost me around €105, around 122 USD, which honestly feels a bit steep. It’s already 1:30 in the night, so technically this place is mine for just about ten hours. If you think about it, that’s roughly $12 an hour for a quick night stay. All right, I’ll tell you the rest later. I haven’t even parked the car properly yet. Room number 326. Why did they have to give me one so far away? Oops. – Alright? – Oh. I’m sorry. Damn, I accidentally entered the wrong room. Oh, it goes here. Man, I walked into the wrong room. Let me tell you what happened. My room number was 320. But, man, I couldn’t even tell the difference between a 0 and a 6 anymore. I was half asleep after driving the whole day. So what happened was I was supposed to go to 326, but I saw 320, and thought it was a six. I walked straight up and tried to open the door. And look at that, it started raining again. Should have just grabbed the umbrella, would have been smarter. So I tried opening that door straight up thinking I just had to tap the guard. I kept tapping it again and again on room 320, wondering why it wasn’t opening. Turns out my card was for 326 and it wasn’t even a Tap card, it had to be inserted. And even if I had done that, it still wouldn’t have opened. So after all that noise, this guy came out from inside and opened the door. He looked totally drunk and just went, “All good? What happened mate?” And man, as soon as I looked at him and he was not in his full senses, my eyes went past him to the bed. His girlfriend was sitting there. It got so awkward in a split second I was like, “Sorry, wrong room.” They were both clearly tipsy but thankfully pretty chill about it. He just laughed and said, “No worries.” I quickly backed out and headed toward my actual room. What an awkward moment, seriously. Anyway, let me just park the car first, then I’ll tell you where exactly we are and why. See that it says go for city center up there, and there’s even a parking sign pointing this way. The hotel parking was completely full, so I decided to park the car here instead. It looks like an all day parking area, and I’m guessing it’s pretty cheap in this town. Oh! What happened? Man, I didn’t even see the ramp in this rain. I was busy filming from above. And look at this, there was a ramp right below. I accidentally drove the car over it, but thankfully nothing happened. Let’s park the car here. In the big cities, you can usually just tap your card and pay for parking quick and easy. But in smaller towns like this, some still have those old school machines where you’ve got to drop coins in to get your ticket. I had a feeling this might be one of those places, even though it looks like they’ve added a card option too. So just to be safe, I grabbed a few coins from my hostel this morning before heading out and turns out that was a pretty good call. The parking doesn’t count for the night. It starts from 10:30 in the morning. I tapped my card and it got approved. So now the parking’s paid from 10:30 to 12:30. So now I just need to place this parking slip on the windshield up front. Damn, i just noticed this one’s only two-hour parking for €2, but there’s another parking lot nearby where you can park all day for just three. Anyway, no worries now, so we’ll just get the car till 12:30. Right now, we have reached this town called Sligo or Sleego or however you say it. From here, we’ll head to Donegal tomorrow. Check out the Slieve League cliffs and then see what’s next. Maybe after that we’ll move on toward Northern Ireland, probably Belfast. So that’s the plan, right now. It’s almost a quarter to two at night. And before I wrap up, let me show you my room real quick. That’s the bathroom behind me. And let’s do a quick recap of the entire day. We started off from Galway, then drove towards Connemara National Park. From there we went to Kylemore Castle, which is known as the most romantic castle in all of Ireland. It was built by a politician named Mitchell Henry for his wife. It’s a Victorian-style castle, meaning it was built during the reign of Queen Victoria. After visiting Kylemore Castle, we made our way to Clifden, spend some time exploring the town and then stopped there for dinner. From Clifden, we continued driving through the night until we finally reach Sligo, where we’ll be staying tonight. Tomorrow, the plan is to leave for Donegal, visit the stunning cliffs I mentioned earlier and from there maybe continue further north into Northern Ireland, all the way to the capital, Belfast. You know what? Let me tell you something kind of crazy. During that entire two hours and 40 minutes of driving from Clifden to Sligo, just imagine how many cars I must have overtaken, or how many overtook me. If I ignore the last ten minutes when I had already entered Sligo, in those 2.5 hours, there was literally just one car that I overtook. Other than that, not a single car was going in my direction the whole time. Sure, a few cars came from the opposite side every 10 to 15 minutes, but none were going my way. Not ahead of me, not behind me. Maybe the speed just matched perfectly, or maybe there was simply no one else on that route. It was completely empty, like a stretch of silence cutting through the hills. I’m so tired right now, going to take a nice shower and crash straight to bed. Got a bunch of things planned out, but whatever happens, you will see it all tomorrow. Will decide everything in the morning, like always. No point stressing too much. So yeah, see you guys in the next video. Hope you enjoyed this one. If you haven’t subscribed to the channel yet. Man, a lot of people watch without subscribing. But hey, if you do, I’d really appreciate it. And if you don’t, well, what can I say? Your call anyway. See ya.
Left Galway in the morning and drove into Connemara – quiet roads, open landscapes, lakes, and sheep everywhere.
Stopped at Kylemore Abbey, then drove the Sky Road with stunning views of mountains, ocean, and fields. Continued to Clifden for a short break before heading to Sligo.
Slow roads, peaceful towns, and beautiful landscapes all day. Ended with a late-night drive to Sligo, tired but happy.
