The First Paphos Rain Storm Of The Season!
Hi, this is Dominic from Papos Life at a rather unorthodox film. We’re driving, well, rather Alex is driving into uh central Papos and it’s a big rainstorm and obviously I can’t put a camera on the roof and as we hadn’t intended. Oh my god, look at all this. I think I just shut up and let you see the build. We get Oh, look at that. That hasn’t worked well. That repair drains there. Oh, good god. What’s this lolly doing? Yeah, it’s quite fun basically at the moment. This is the first big storm of the day of the season really. Why I said day and uh yeah, there’s quite a lot of flooding already and it hasn’t been raining for that long. I don’t think so. Anyway, we come from our polace where we were originally this morning and uh so I suppose it could have been raining more here. Oh, look at the drains here though. You only want to come in for a little bit of shopping. Oh, there’s another one. And I should have point out this is the B7. It’s the main road into Pathos. I’m not like on a little side road somewhere. And hopefully they’ve had similar rain up on the other side of the reservoirs because the reservoirs definitely do need it. If you’re here on holiday, I wouldn’t worry too much because uh when it rains like this, normally by the day after, there’ll be a bit of a clean up to do, but uh it all gets back to normal again pretty quickly. over this side for a bit. Still plenty of thunder and lightning about. Oh, what is that? That’s um Oh, jeez. He’s coming out. Watch out. Go on, mate. Now we’re going to get Oh, great. Just what we want in front of us. Look at this. More lightning. One, two, three. Yeah. So, pretty much above us. Look at that. I have dreads the thing how they’re coping down in Kato Pathos cuz this is where all this water’s running to. It’d be tempting to drive down there, but I think it’d be a bit foolhardy. Well, my wife’s What’s your view on that? Well, it might be worth going and showing them what’s going on. And she’s bit more full hardy than me, but she’s driving. See, that way all the blame has been passed onto her shoulders. Oh, yes. I think that’s a good idea. Go as far as little. Basically, Msoy Avenue is turning into a river. Yes. Miy Lake. Good God. I wonder if little might be flooded. Now we got the traffic lights up ahead here. So that’ll be a bit of a delay, but let’s be honest, that would give us more chance to film what’s happening. God. It’s safe to say that the drainage system here has been completely 100% overwhelmed and that’s as a result of one morning’s rain. I tried to think what it’s like on the road uh down by the post office and the hospital. Oh, where road works. Yeah, they’ve been doing that for over a year or two years probably. And I think they’ve been putting in improved drainage. Well, we’ll be able to see how that works. Some pale. Yep. staff parking. Know why that means me so much? But yes, so I’ll film down here. You can see there’s a nice river next to us. There’s another road laying in there. Yeah. Now, fortunately, our destination is just on the other side of these traffic lights to the right if it’s not flooded. And I’ll stop filming there cuz I’m quite keen to get home now. Really? Oh, you want to go a bit slower with that, you idiot? Some people have no idea how to drive in adverse weather conditions. Well, that was demonstrated by the two times that we got completely smothered. It probably won’t go through on this green light, but the next one, I imagine. Now somewhere is a stream stroke river at the moment that runs from here down through the center of Pathos. So the drains may be feeding that well if they’re not completely overwhelmed anyway and that might all occur up here. But uh it’s clear the sky skies now up ahead, but the road to Katonica and uh Tala is looking pretty much quagmire as well. So some more of that side river. Well, it’s still raining. Still lightning and thunder. I mean, as I said before though, we desperately need all this rain. Not specifically here. We need it uh over the esperos and the reservoirs. going to be our turn again. Hopefully we might get through this time and then we’ll find out if the little car parks flooded or not. If so, we just have to get in this. I say that because the little car park’s below this level. It’s not so bad on the other side of the road before when we need to get back up to PMI. That’s encouraging. That is it. Hopefully, we’ll do this. I’m looking at it. Doesn’t look like it’s any better beyond the lights. Now you got to be careful with these lights. There’s a nice big puzzle there. That’ll be worth watching when they drive through that. Go on, take your pick. I see they’re being sensible. They’re driving nice and slowly. More thunder. Don’t know why I said that. You could hear it quite see all the rocks being swept up. Yes. Rubble there. I’ll film it going across. I guess it seems less steamy motorcyclist. He’s got his right up. Yeah. I remember years ago in the UK cycling to work through one of their great day daily and the water came up to my waist at one point. That was quite good fun. [Music] And away we go. Right. What’s little going to be like the rain’s abased somewhat. Oh, the car park itself looks fine. Yeah, we’re going. Which is quite amazing really. Looks like they got a bit of a lip there. Yeah. Doesn’t take a lot. The water knows which way it wants to go. Yeah. Nothing wrong with the car park. So, we’ll be heading into Little and I’ll leave you with a parting shot of the B7 uh as it goes down into Central P, which actually seems a bit better down that way. So, there you have it. Have fun out there. Drive carefully and look after yourself. Bye. [Music]
Well the heaven’s finally opened over Paphos this morning, and it took a lot of people by surprise. In this film we capture the scene as we drive down the B7 to Lidl. The drains are overflowing and parts of the road have turned into a river. We need a lot more rain than this, so hopefully this will be the first of many such deluges.
I filmed this on my phone, so the quality is not the best, but you get to see what the rain was like and how the B7 looks as a river.

Interesting to see the ‘other’ side of Cyprus weather….👍
At least if you needed new windscreen wipers, you were heading for the right place 😂
Remember those storms when I lived there all the kids would go out and play 😊😊x
That is WET‼️🇨🇾💕
Hopefully the rain fell over the reservoirs and not just on the coast.
The only time that I have seen a heavy rainstorm when were on holiday in Paphos was when we were there in late October 2018. There was what looked like a wedding procession consisting of lorries, suitably decorated, gong down Danaes Avenue near the Avanti Hotel. They were sounding their horns and flashing their lights and playing music. Maybe the guy who got married was a lorry driver?
We had torrential rain at Polis on the 8th Oct but luckily the rest of our holiday was red hot.Since we got back to UK it's never stopped raining, but not to that extent 😮. Stay safe 😊
